I've actually been doing this before I ran into this video, it makes it so convenient because you can just push up from the bottom and the whole rootball comes out with the plant when they're big enough to transplant, just love it. Keep growing my friends 🙏 ❤️ 💯
6 like. that is good info . So glad you shared this video, I Enjoyed watching .. Thank you very much i will try to plant seeds in Egg cartons I loved your channel contents Have blessed week
Great video! Just discovered your channel, subscribed and going to check out your other content. I was looking at my egg tray thinking I could start seeds in that....and here you are!!! Whoo hoo! Thanks❤
Thank you for sharing! I’m about to plant some Thai basil, thyme, and oregano, hope this works! 😊 When do you move your plants into a pot? Any sustainable pots you can suggest?
I planted germinated papaya seeds and they are growing so fast! I water them with a spray bottle and soon will be moving them into bigger space using little pots. Now I save my egg cartons 😊🤌
@devinthegardner- i have "turned over" the dirt in my garden as i believe this might be the firs step to planting in group veggies and fruit. Im finding black ants and the weeds are sprouting big like never before. like i said before... im new to all of this and i need some information and guidance through it all. i know it can be done. #1, do you have a video on either gardening for beginners for outdoors gardening (i saw the one video that had the potato bags!)? i live in a region that is hot in the summers (104 degrees plus) but cool nights and its in the mountains so the dirt is dry and rocky. #2 what are inset control products i can use that are safe for the garden? and last (i think) those black "tarpy" looking things that i found in old planting boxes... are they used to stop weeds from growing in the vegetation? #4 (i said i THOUGHT it'd be all lol) can anything be planted above ground or in the planting boxes or are some things just MADE to be in the ground directly... OH and what mulch and panting soil is best to mix for an outside garden? sorry so many questions... i am sooo brand new to all of this but im in the mode of transitioning my family back to the food from the earth... THANKS!
I'll help you out! When you turn over your dirt there will be dormant weed seeds that sprout. I'd suggest turning your dirt over and then putting a tarp over the soil for a few weeks to kill any weeds. For insect control I don't use products, just cover your vegetables with a shade cloth or mosquitto netting. Everything can be planted above ground but make sure you have enough depth for the roots to grow. Some vegetables need more space for there roots. For soil you can try a mels mix combination which you can make yourself or to break up your very hard dry and rocky dirt you can add alot of compost. It won't be perfect soil right away but over time your soil will become nice.
@@DevinTheGardener PERFECT! so right now, the section ill make is for the things that need deep roots (in the ground). how deep should the dirt be turned over? 3ft maybe? what i HAVE done is turn on the water for like 20 min early morning, then go out at lunch to turn over, then go in the evening to remove all the big rock and old netting and old tarp... just whatever that is in there that i find from the previous owners.... so after that is done, put the new tarp over the dirt and let sit for a few week. got it. home depot? lowes?
So I got a box of 5 dozen eggs and want to start a ton of seeds using all the cartons. However a simple windowsill won’t really work in the case. So it setting these cartons outside viable? I live in southern Texas where I get lots of sun and hot weather. Just wondering the best way to set this up with limited indoor space and ample outdoor space. Also I have good shaded areas as well. Thanks in advance
Put the egg cartons in your shaded area until the seeds germinate and place a plastic container overtop to keep the moisture in until they germinated and then take it off.
Thank you so much Devin! I just checked and my apartment is South facing - woho! Can i keep my egg carton outside in the light (without direct sunlight) would that be ok? and also, why did you put 2 seeds in each egg cup instead of 1? thanks! x
Not all your seeds will germinate 100% especially if they are old. Put two just in case. Yeah keeping your egg cartons outside without direct sunlight is fine.
I have a 600w Rhizon. You do need about 20 inches above the seedling tray to use it. If you don't have that much space then go for a less watts lamp. They are less powerful and can be closer to your seedling tray
Please help!! Anybody help will be highly appreciated 😅 i going too try this with egg holders,, MUST THE EGG HOLDER HAVE SMALL DRAINING HOLES IN THEM?? AND CAN I JUST USE NORMAL FRESH GARDEN SOIL FOR PLANTING MY SEEDS? 👍
If you use fresh garden soil add a bit of vermiculite or perlite in it so the seeds can germinate and pop through the soil. Pop a hole in the bottom of egg cartons as well
I always thought that variety of cucumber (artist gherkin) was pronounced with a hard "g" (like 'google') rather than the softer "j" sound..ive always said it like "grrrr-kin"... Is "jerkin" the correct way??
If you cover the egg carton while the seeds are germinating then it will keep the humidity in and you don't need to water. After the seeds germinate then take the cover off and youll have to bottom water twice a week or so. Every 3 days
Does using cardboard like this pull too much nitrogen from your soil and stunt your plants? Or do you just give them a little extra nitrogen with watering?
To be honest I just made a video testing a bunch of different things you can use around the house to start seeds in. Yogurt containers, egg cartons etc. Egg cartons performed the worst by a long shot which I just found out
Want to know when to start your seeds NO MATTER what zone you live in? → devinthegardener.etsy.com
Ty!!! I’m new at this and I’m goin with God on it! Thank you!
YESSSSS
Love the idea of reusing stuff you have around the house
Hi Devin, we will try this trick with my 7 years daughter this year. 🍀 We absolutelly love this idea👍 Thank you from Czech republic🌻
Thanks for stopping by and let me know how it works!

Thank you for the inspiration! I have now planted my seeds! Waiting eagerly for the next step😅🌞
This was a great help! I would like to grow flowers from seed. I hope it's the same concept as you did for your veggies. Thanks for a great video.
Same concept! You can germinate almost any seed in an egg carton. Thanks for stopping by and glad I could help. Cheers
Best share, big like my friend 👍👍👍
Going to try growing seeds this way, instead of buying the seed starting kits. Save some $$$$$$

Amazing quality man! Great info, great camera work, great presentation! You are on fire 🔥 honestly ☺️
This is so relaxing.
Great editing, keep the videos coming! I want to grow broccoli now 🥦
I can give you a plant!
Do you plant the seedlings in the soil with the carton or remove and then plant?
Thank you for sharing! I’m about to plant some Thai basil, thyme, and oregano, hope this works! 😊 When do you move your plants into a pot? Any sustainable pots you can suggest?
Great idea 💡 I will be trying this today for my garden. Thank you!
Let me know how it goes!

Thank you for sharing.😊
Can you please include progress report/results content in these, to show what/when to look for?
Yeah I can make another video showing the results
Thanks! I just did one & wanna know what to expect so I.don't get impatient, lol
I too would love to see the results and the comparison to the purchased tray. Thank you.
Do you use a drip tray under the egg carton?

Super helpful and simple. Thanks for the video. God bless in Christ 🙂

Nice wow, will grow cherry tomato and cucmber this way and see how it goes. :) Thank you so much!!
You are very welcome
hope they will grow fast
Thank you!
What about growing in the eggshell as well?? I know it can be beneficial for tomatoes
You can grow in eggshells. Haven’t tried it yet! The calcium in eggshells are great.
Thank you so much Devin! I just checked and my apartment is South facing - woho! Can i keep my egg carton outside in the light (without direct sunlight) would that be ok? and also, why did you put 2 seeds in each egg cup instead of 1? thanks! x

Awesome gardening
I'd love to see when your seeds germinate. How long does it take to germinate?
Love from Fiji island.
Depends on the seeds but I’m planning a whole video on it
@@DevinTheGardener thanks Devin. I'm looking forward to watch that video of yours.
The window area has to have direct sun light or at least bright? Out indoor weather is 68-70 since we in march. Ny
I live up north. We don't get light in winter. What type of lamp should I buy? I planing on planting mainly veggies.

lol I could have said it wrong! 🤷
My wife says that the egg cartons just disintegrate from the moisture…Any suggestions?
Nice video
Thank you!
Do we water them everyday?
If you cover the egg carton while the seeds are germinating then it will keep the humidity in and you don't need to water. After the seeds germinate then take the cover off and youll have to bottom water twice a week or so. Every 3 days
Should I soak the seeds before planting them?
You can. It helps with the germination rate
👌 looking Chris Evans captain America
Does using cardboard like this pull too much nitrogen from your soil and stunt your plants? Or do you just give them a little extra nitrogen with watering?
the problem is the lowered edges between each egg hole, that may make it difficult to get the plants out.
cut the sections apart when ready to plant outside
Wow how did you survive COVID!?
I didn’t
I thought you're Chris Evans for a sec 😂
I’ll take that as a compliment! Chris Evan’s is a good looking dude
It doesn't work for me. It won't germinate the seeds. Even if I transplanted it to the egg carton after the seeds germinated it will die...
To be honest I just made a video testing a bunch of different things you can use around the house to start seeds in. Yogurt containers, egg cartons etc. Egg cartons performed the worst by a long shot which I just found out
@@DevinTheGardener yup, I think it's due to the fact that the egg carton will absorb the moisture of the soil which dries out the soil and the seed
Are you still doing videos in 2024?
Yup!
Do you have to use seed starter soil?
