I did mine a few months back, the new butyl tape sorted it out for me. Around the top looks like there would be cracks where the water comes in. But this actually isn't whats causing the issues. This isn't really the correct way to fix it. The butyl tape breaks down around the actual lights themselves. You need to remove the taillights and use a heat gun to heat up the factory tape, and then clean and install new buytl tape against the car body and light. The 3m tape and sealant isn't necessary.
