Helluva goaltender too., although he didn't have good puck luck today... Still congrats Latvia... the OT win vs Germany, although not needed (one point was enough for QFs), was icing on the cake!
Feel really bad for the Germans. 2nd year in a row facing relegation. Let’s be real here, they were put in the tougher group, only facing Latvia, who are similar level. Still they had to win today and very close indeed, but Latvia yet again hold on so congrats to them!
They outplayed Latvia though. Germany was the better team, but didn’t have the luck to be underestimated in the games before. Canada threw the game against the Latvians, because they thought that they would have an easy game to recover. Germany played tough with their back against the wall.

Even the stadium manager roots for Latvia ! The goal syren is so much nicer and louder for Latvia than for Germany x) I don't follow the young championship usually but I decided to when I saw what they did first to Canada, I decided to make a look for them. No regret at all ! 💜
I feel that the loss against USA helped Latvia get down to earth because that win against Canada was huge. Sometimes a nasty loss can bring you back more focused and stronger. Look at IIHF WORLDS 2023 Latvia went from losing games against Canada and Slovakia to going for multiple wins way up until getting our first medal a Bronze. This performance gives me high hopes for the future of our national team. If we can beat Finland that's when I think we can start thinking about how far we can go.
