Great video but a point to remember on the Xiegu X6100 is that the ALC level is the other way round on this radio so your ALC needs to be closer to 100 for a clean signal and not the other way round
Thanks for the video. One mistake though: from 5'40", WSJT-X lower left corner audio volume bar is for Receiving from WSJT-X point of view, i.e. the output from X6100 to input of the computer, not the other way around as you mentioned in the video. That's why it's for "decode" as you mentioned. Thanks and 73.
Very many thanks for this video. I have been struggling with FT 8 on my X6100 but your suggestion of using the X108G setting has really helped. Still can’t get on reliably using the X6100 rig setting. Thank you again.
I am getting back into digital modes. Can you show setup for PSK31 & RTTY ? Do I not need to have an interface box setting between x6100 and computer ? Thanks for creating the video.
Got my X6100 in and updated to firmware!! Great videos! Now of course I'm the guy that needs the USB driver for some reason Windows (10) doesn't recognize my X6100 when plugged in. I haven't had any luck locating the driver. Thanks ahead of time!
all good for digital FT8 etc - I did notice mine doesn't force usb-d and have to manually select it and when wspr mode with band hopping and tune - the tune doesn't run
On the device manager screen, your COM ports showed as 5 and 6, but you chose COM11 on WSJT-x. I thought this was odd. Other than that, this seems pretty straight-forward. I got my X6100 today so I will be tinkering with this soon
Thanks for this video. I have been trying to use the X6100 for FT8. I'm new to HF, and it's been a headache. Your step=by-step worked! BTW, you can select the X6100 in WSJT now.
Very interesting, Josh. I'm going to watch this again tomorrow (too tired). Was very disappointed with the BT/WIFI config. stuff. (just would not connect) Temporary Offline Ham did an awesome (yet very complex) workaround on that issue in some sort of script file.
Great video with clear instructions. I just got my X6100 and can’t get it to work. Read on a forum that Xiegu broke the cat control in the firmware. Not sure what firmware to try now. I have been successful with my X108G, G90 & G106. This fiddle box is a real challenge. It has the latest firmware. It’s a mixed bag of recommendations on firmware. I’m about ready to send it back.
I’m having a hell of a time with my G90 and digital. I can’t adjust my ALC properly. It keeps getting over driven and the radio seems to go into protection mode and reduced the ALC. I can have the radio power set to 10W, I hit tune on WSJT-X and my ALC will read 100. As I slowly bump up tbt volume on windows it will go from 1W, to 2W but then when I get around 4-5W it goes haywire and my power and ALC just start jumping all over the place. It’s so weird. It’s been an absolute pain to setup.
Hmmm, I am getting a Hamlib error when I hit Test CAT. I am on U-DIG. I have a newer version of Wsjt-x. Notice this video is almost 3 years old so I wonder what has changed. I do see X6100 in the Wsjt-X but was trying to get it to work with your settings. Ugggghhh, maybe you can do another video of the X6100 with a newer version of Wsjt-x.
Okay, Josh, you have to help me out here. I am looking to get an amplifier. I really don't want something the size of a refrigerator that requires a PhD from MIT to operate. I don't need 1500 watts. I wouldn't mind having 600 or so. I'd like to have plug and play, automatic band switching, integration with the tuner in my 7300, plus a cost approaching reasonable. I have not seen anywhere anyone do a video on how to integrate an amplifier with your 7300. How about it?
great video I've made around 10 contacts and then I'm not sure what I did but for some reason when I Tx I can now see that it's cue's the mic in the x6100 instead of sending the message or its doing both at the some time. Just wondering if you may know of a fix off hand thanks W7DVN
Okay, I get the Waterfall and the program Decodes. Test the CAT and get the green light. However when I Test the PTT it turns red and then the CAT turns Red also, re-click the CAT and it turns green again. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to change,? Please help, set everything as you directed.
My CAT control is constantly switching mode from U-DIG to USB. Using Mode None and Split Fake It seems to have fixed that. Also, I have to use the lowered number COM port as well.
Help I have a yaesu ft-5d and when I have the radio in hri direct mode the radio will not key up the wiresx software. The only way the radio will key up the wiresx software is when the 3.5 mm plug is not plugged into the radios micophone\output jack.
Hello Josh, I have a X6100, plugged to a PC running Ubuntu 20, got two serial /dev/ttyACM0 and /dev/ttyACM1, it looks like it works with ACM1 no problem I get the green Test CAT button ok, but when I hit the Test PTT button I get a pop up window with the message: Rig Failure Hamlib error: Invalid parameter while setting current VFO mode... any ideas what I may be missing? Thanks Alex N2IX
Very helpful. Thanks, Josh. But upon xmit, I get 0 watts output. I'm convinced it's my sound settings on my ToughBook with Win10 Pro, but for the life of me I can't figure out what I've done.
For mobile I want to have good coverage and contact in case emergencies? At home I want good reach to communicate with fellow hams. Emergencies as well. If I have a list of parts. I can make it. I have a machine shop. If I have to buy it. Is 200$ to 400$ good?
Once again, you present yourself with the finesse of an trial attorney or news anchor-very easily understood. Clear, concise, and to the point.

Excellent Setup Josh. Once I made those settings, the Test Cat instantly turned green. Now to get started!
A very Big Thank You for the video got me over the hump. If I used the manual I would still be trying to open it.
Wonderful video. Just got my X6100 in the mail. I hope the weather will be somewhat decent to do some radio.
Good video. I am a Mac user with MacLogger DX with an Icom 7300
Thank you Josh, looks like a decent little radio for the price!
Well done video. Thinking about an X6100 and FT8.
Got my X6100 in and updated to firmware!! Great videos! Now of course I'm the guy that needs the USB driver for some reason Windows (10) doesn't recognize my X6100 when plugged in. I haven't had any luck locating the driver. Thanks ahead of time!
Radioddity has the driver. Good Luck!
USB "HOST" Port is for external devices like Keyboards / Mice
S/W & F/W updates are via SD Card
all good for digital FT8 etc - I did notice mine doesn't force usb-d and have to manually select it and when wspr mode with band hopping and tune - the tune doesn't run
Josh, have you got the x6100 to work with WINLINK? If so, what were your radio settings? Thanks.
Thank you for including the idea to walk away when testing CAT control! Reminds me of old Dial-up days! When I was very young. 😜

It was just an example. When taking screen shots I used a different port. The names are the important part and picking the larger numbered port.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Yeah and those numbers will be different on every computer anyway
So I just connected mine and it works on the lowest port number, not the highest
Wow. Didn’t work for me. Do you have the HRO version too?
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Radioddity, do you think there's a difference ?
Thanks for this video. I have been trying to use the X6100 for FT8. I'm new to HF, and it's been a headache. Your step=by-step worked! BTW, you can select the X6100 in WSJT now.
I’m glad it helped!
I tried the X6100 settings but it was worse in my case - your settings are reliable! and work (maybe hamlib needs updating?)
Very interesting, Josh. I'm going to watch this again tomorrow (too tired).
Was very disappointed with the BT/WIFI config. stuff. (just would not connect)
Temporary Offline Ham did an awesome (yet very complex) workaround on that issue in some sort of script file.
Tks a lot for your information and I will try it by next week.
What is ALC? I don't really understand it someone enlighten me.

I couldn't find the link for drivers that you mentioned in the video.
Great content as always
worth mentioning putting a ferrite on the usb cable, CAT was extreamely glitchy until i put a ferrite on the usb cable
Yes, and often putting it on the coax at the radio side is more effective.

What are the settings on the radio please

WSJT-X has the X6100 listed now

I found that my default Port Settings were 9600 - this caused some weirdness - When I changed the Port to 19200 (on both) everything works fine!
Great video! Appreciate it!

This could also be the power setting in WSJT-X. The Discord server has a lot of good information in it.
Great video
What’s the best antenna for xiegu x6100 for home and on the go?
Depends on what you’re trying to do and how much you want to spend (or save by making it)
For mobile I want to have good coverage and contact in case emergencies? At home I want good reach to communicate with fellow hams. Emergencies as well. If I have a list of parts. I can make it. I have a machine shop. If I have to buy it. Is 200$ to 400$ good?
Build an end fed half wave.
Nice...........
so this is an internet reliant radio? I take it digital is vastly different?
Digital on HF radio is generally data transfers over rf.
