They voted her very poorly for this performance. The contestants do not get to pick the songs, except for one of the eight weeks. She had such a huge lead after the first episode, that they had to level the playing field (in my opinion).
I think such voting was not directly related to the quality of the performance, there were some other reasons for such voting results. At least the video of Diana's performance on RUclips gained more views than the videos of all the other contestants in sum.
The scores are relative rather than individual. You can only give out each score once, so someone always gets a 9 and someone else always gets a 2. It's 9 singers, singing 9 songs from 9 categories, rating from 9 to 2. The other performances were really good on the second episode/issue. I guess Diana really set the bar and got everyone bringing their A game. Julia's performance was definitely worthy. I think Diana gave the older lady a 9 on the second day and that might have been one of my favs so far from the other singers. Very lounge bar aesthetic. Julia's yodels were good despite not being very prominent. Not sure if that was a new technique for her but it impressed Diana the first time she yodeled. One of the categories is Rock hit and Diana likes 80s music so I really hope the song is a suitable one for her. This weekend she will be doing one of Pelageya's Cossack folk songs. I really really wanted her to sing Under the Green Willow, but I'll settle for the other one. It will really test Diana's head voice and upper range.
