Kiwi fruit is actually a Chinese native fruit but popularised and marketed successfully by New Zealand. It used to be called Chinese Gooseberries. In China, it is now also known as Kiwi fruits besides their native name.

That is very correct, the only proviso being the varieties sold as Kiwi fruit (the name given for marketing and export purposes) are cultivars that were developed in NZ by market gardeners from the original Chinese plants that bore much smaller fruit. These days the NZ cultivars/varieties are being used by commercial market growers around the world including China.

I love eating Walkers crisps when I was writing my assignment. The vinegar flavour of Walkers crisps was impressive.
lotus seeds in China, in Guangdong, we use it with crystal sugar to make sweet soup what we consider it'll helpful in clear away heat or eliminate dampness. For example, The green bean soup is considered do well in clear away heat, detoxify, and relieve heat and troubles. and the lily lotus seed sweet soup is considered can moisturizing the lungs. There are too many kinds sweet soup in China, so you guys can go some where sells sweet soup to have a try, but as far as I know, there are not many local sweet soups in Sichuan(I'm not from Sichuan and don’t know much about it), there are some similar things called bingfen(ice jelly). oh maybe in Southeast Asia their sweet soup were similar to Guangzhou's. so may be you have tasted them.

It’s not the store but the people. Too many people living in poverty here in the US for different reasons but there’s not much the government is doing to help change that. Conservatives believe in small government and liberals come up with ridiculous solutions, and the political gridlock makes sure nothing gets really done.

Actually, WalMart has been in China for almost 30 years, The first WalMart opened in China was in Shenzhen in 1996, Now it has a total of 433 stores in Mainland China.

Man... Walmart, Sams, Costco, Medro, Aldi, Tesco, Carrefour, Auchan, you name it... We have had all of those western supermarket chain in China for decades. And even some of them have already gone over their lifecycle and is beated by Chinese local supermarket chain so they are closing their stores. Shopping in a Walmart was only something trendy back to 10 or 15 years ago in China and now shopping in a supermarket like Walmart is an out-dated activity to many younger Chinese generations.

@@12567NoYouCannot Sam, Costco, and Aldi are doing well and expanding in China. It's not so that American (or European) super markets are falling behind, but simply that the warehouse model are replacing traditional supermarkets, which is also happening in here in the US.
And this transition is happening faster in China, thanks to the abundance of small neighborhood groceries and grocery deliveries, so people would only go to supermarkets for bulk shopping

Actually, at least half of Chinese people shopping online. They can buy everything including fresh product from 拼多多（original Chinese Temu), or Taobao(you may heard of Alibaba), or a lot of different phone apps, which is much cheaper than off-line supermarkets.
Nowdays it is not very often to go grocery at supermarket in China, especially for young people in big cities. They do online shopping almost for everything.
My kids always enjoy carpet-combing the titbit shelves in Walmart when we visit China! ❤

Yes, Chinese people attach great importance to the distinction between a 正餐(formal meal) and snacks. They don't take snacks like potato chips, dried fruits, dried meat, and popcorn as formal meal, because the nutrition is not enough.

The price in Walmart is much cheaper than other supermarket in China， especially in big city, a lot of discounts after 8pm
This is not true. While there are other supermarkets with higher prices like Ole, there are also lower priced ones like Yonghui Superstores and a few other smaller chains..
@@raycomeau6866 I was living in Shenzhen 10 years ago and there was a Carrefour just across the street of my residence, after 9pm everyday, the cooked food section (like roasted chicken, duck, beef and many other cooked ready-to-eat food ) and the bakery section (bread and tarts and fluffy cakes) offered tremendous discounts, they bindled two or three packs together to sell at the price of 1 pack, I often went there at 9:00pm to get all the advantages, lol.
There was also a Walmart, but like 1km away, I sometimes went there and found they offered a lot of discounts after 8-9pm everyday as well (but the discounts were not as huge as Carrefour) and they had the near-expiry-food shelf near the checkouts which had the food near the expiry dates but not expired yet and the discounts were extreme, almost free giveaways (Carrefour didn't have these).

Haw flakes are my childhood candy. It's sweetened hawthorn fruit dried into round discs. Delicious.

Lotus seeds are deep fried or baked in Vietnam as snack. In Chinese cuisines, lotus seeds are cooked as desert, lotus paste used in buns etc. In some instances, lotus seed is used medicinally with other herbs as a cooling drink!
In China they're usually boiled together with pork belly/Chicken and dates, for example, as herbal soups.

Few people in China go shopping in supermarkets anymore. They use various apps to order meals and supermarket shopping software, including buying fresh seafood, and so on. Any vegetables, fruits, and snacks available in supermarkets and markets will appear on the online shopping platform, and there is no need for express delivery fees. The delivery time is basically within 30 minutes. Even if you only spend 0.1 US dollars on a green onion or a green vegetable in online shopping, it will be delivered to your home for free within 30 minutes. This is the most surprising. Including purchasing household appliances, such as the JD app in China. If you purchase a TV, washing machine, refrigerator, air conditioner, and other household appliances before 9am, they will be delivered to your home for installation in the afternoon or evening of the same day. The main reason you can see such a wide variety of products in Chinese supermarkets is that China is the manufacturing base for these products. Since each country has different product demands, they only need a few of these products. However, because China is the production base for all product varieties, it explains why you were surprised in the video to see so many product varieties you had never seen before, such as avocado-flavored Lay's.

China is NOT manufacturing foods for the World. Lays potato chips in your country for example, is not made in China. Chinese always celebrated the Variety of foods and taste. Lays simply adopted to Chinese market to stay competitive. As other western brands.
What’s so impressive about this Walmart trip is that it shows China has such abundance and diversity of food supply and at such affordable prices. This is why the living standards in China are incredible. You just don’t have the means to eat this well in the supposedly rich west, both on the supply and demand sides.
The best supermarket in the world is Pangdonglai in Xuchang, China. It is not an exaggeration. Many people in China visit Pangdonglai supermarket as a tourist attraction. If you take a taxi to Xuchang, every driver will praise Pangdonglai greatly. The whole Xuchang people will take pride in having the best supermarkets in the world. Although I am not from Xuchang, I also envy them for being able to come to Pangdong every day. Compared with Wal Mart, PangDongLai will be at another level.

I'm in Shenzhen, actually there are lots of Warlmart or Carrefour stores shutdown during the recent 10 years. Most of people use APPs or platform(e.g., JD or Taobao) to order everything online. only the parents want to go to the store or market

Then, don't steal or rob in China, which is a serious violation of the law. Then, even if you succeed, you can't escape, let alone think about selling the stolen goods. Thanks for sharing! I think many of the small single snack packets sell for 10 or 20 for 19.50 Yuan. And the bigger packets sometime 2 or 3 for the stated price. I notice the lemon Oreo price 11.8 Yuan is for 2 packets. The preserved eggs could be salted eggs.
