He didn't turn them down, he priced himself out. He also had a fight with Floyd Mayweather on the table in which he wanted 50/50 and they were only willing to go 70/30. That was the norm for Winky, he didn't know his worth. He thought he was worth much more than he was and use to ask for money that he didn't deserve. He was a great fighter though. Vernon Forrest refused to fight him, Ricardo Mayorga refused as well and Fernando Vargas declined a rematch.
FINALLY !! Another 'Wink' fan, thought I was the only one left lol.. Nobody seems to like this anymore, as a matter fact.. All they seem to wanna do is insult him.. smfh
Watching this fight confirms my thoughts about winky standing just a few inches to wide during his career. He was stepping away from the 1-2 which is common but with his stance so wide and feet so flat he let a few big right hands find their way down the middle. Winky always looked a bit sluggish to me, great fighter through. Wish he would have accepted the fights he turned down. It's a shame we can't see how his style would mash against those fighters named below
@beezzus86 Exactly. I love winky, I noticed a lot of his earlier fight footage finally coming to light. I've got a ton of Winky and Martinez footage that i had came across. Neither get the respect that they both deserve, winky especially. He was brilliant, my favorite fighter.
Beezzus, I liked this style of his, what I don't like is that he told stories of robberies that didn't exist....ie the Vasquez fight. I also don't like what Winki became. He did have a hard time getting fights here, but once he was one of the top fighters he turned down figths with guys like Auther Abraham and Kelley Pavlik. I thinhk he overrated himself and people bought into it.
