I come from Žilina, which is close to Čičmany so I visited it more times with my Japanese wife as well. We love the village. I also recommend to visit "Vlkolínec" village. Another wonderful experience.

I have been to Čičmany when I was little and I have a picture of me in front of the wooden houses. Though I visited it in summer so there were crowds of tourists and we had to wait to get inside the houses. Anyways my favourite village in Slovakia.
This pattern is very uniqe. I was in Čičmany once... and I also bought some souvenirs and also a T-shirt with Čičmany pattern... one of my most favorite T-shirts. :D

The building in 6:37 was an old village school. The school was abandoned already during communist era - probably there was not enough children in Cicmany to keep the school operating. I was on the ceiling of the school sometimes about 1992 (?) and the ceiling was full of abandoned school stuff maybe from 1950 - 1970 (?) - at that time it would be interesting URBEX….

Hi Andre, you were so close to one of the greatest halusky in Slovakia. There is a village near Cicmany called "Rajecka lesna" where is "Penzion u Hromadov". They have also perfect "kapustnica with plums". Have a nice vacation here.
Other Slovak traditional foods that you should try (some of them are from other countries but we eat them often here): Cabbage soup called Kapustnica A funnel cake called Trdelnik (only sells on markets) Schnitzel ( i think you know it, it is austrian) Pirohy filled with Bryndza Bryndzove Pirohy And Fried Cheese with french fries and tartar sauce vyprazany syr (sells in almost every restaurant you can find, but you need to find a good one)

You should go and visit 4.th workshop about wooden houses building ,,Hriňovská kresačka" in Hriňová town near Detva, Slovakia. There are many interesting wooden houses in Hriňová and it is amazing place with people trying to live the old-fashioned way of living, repairing wooden houses and doing traditional crafts.
if you plan to stay in slovakia during the summer holidays there are some slovak folk festivals happening in different region for example in Terchová or Východná
You need to go check out that museum. It's a museum of wooden chests.. some more than 100 years old.. If you enjoy wooden stuff you can't miss on that one 😉
