- In this video I am located in a village called Čičmany which is a village in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia. It contains a folk architecture reserve. This village touristic wooden shops and wooden restaurants available for traditional Slovak food. Next to the village stands a very steep mountain which used as a ski resort called “javorinka”. In this village they has some really interesting shops with wooden antiques and souvenirs available for the tourists coming in. I tour this village and have a look at what is in the surrounding area then plan to get traditional Slovak food. While I was there I saw the local church and pub also I was so fascinated by the wooden architecture and the wooden sculptures what were hand made in one of the tourist shops I went inside. I was able to get myself a souvenir tour the village and get traditional Slovak food. I order bryndzové pirohy, dumplings and acidko.

Mate I love your videos and you have inspired me to start my own channel. I am originally from South Africa and moved from the UK to Slovakia with my Mrs and children in October 2020. Thank you Andre, you're the man!
Awesome all the best.
Thank you mate and let me know if you're ever in or around Ruzomberok.
South African married to Slovakian that moved from the UK. Wow! And I am from Slovakia living in Ireland married to South African. 😀 Great stuff. I hope you like it in Slovakia. Regards
.. skor naivny turista, odpinkali ho akciovym acidkom z kaufiku ...
This guy did more for Slovak tourism than every governments since 89. Honor him. Thanks
Zincica is something completely different - real zincia is in Krajinka restaurant near Ruzomberok - stay there when you will go to Vlkolinec !
Krajinka je top
Krajinka je super
Vo Vlkolinci, ešte za RU po žinčici nedobre pochodil ružomberský mestský úradník starý Babylonský.
Sapienti sat !
Tiež som prekvapený, že mu dali Acidko a nie žinčicu. Acidko má trochu ďalej od žinčice :D
@@exlegus veď vravel, že žinčica im došla. Ale zas mohli mu dať nejaké domácejšie kyslé mlieko
Acitko je moje obľúbené pitie.
Zincica is leftover (water) from boiling/brewing the sheep cheese. Acidko is just oldered milk (sour milk).
je sladka a kysla zincica
Water from making cheese is called Srvátka and after that you cook it and that foam that forms on the top is collected with little bit of Srvátka and that is called Žinčica.
Im horrified they gave you acidko instead of true home made zincica, especially in that region. You should try the real thing as soon as you can :D
Yes yes he must try that :)
At least she was honest that they don't have the real thing.
I don't like zincica. Zincica is side product when bryndza is made. So it mean for me that zincica is rubbish
@@navahoSVK 100 ľudí 100 chutí
@@onraj9mm Yeah, they were honest about that, but they said "Acidko" is a traditional Slovak drink, but thats not true. It is favorite Slovak drink, but definitely not a traditional one.

No ani taká Banská Štiavnica nesklame, tá je celá zapísaná v UNESCO.
jj, dobré tipy.
I really like your channel André, thanks for visiting Slovakia at places that I never even thought to visit. btw seems like you are really improving your czech language ;) keep it up
I love how he always says "smells nice" when he goes to bathroom 😂
Žinčica is really good, but never combine it with beer :D haha
this was no zincica - it was just sour milk
Woaaaa it looked so delicious🥺 Someday I want to go there!! Greetings from Venezuela
The best channel on the RUclips 🎊🎉
Hi André, you have to try some of our sweet traditional foods, something like parené buchty or šúlance, I think you would really enjoy it. And I think Slovakia has really beautiful nature, you should do some hiking here, lots and lots of stunning view points, it's something that we Slovaks are really proud of.
FINALLY ANOTHER VIDEO🥰🥰 LOVE YOUR CONTENT!!!
You have to visit Bojnice . Really nice place , great restourants and bars .
Odporúčam ísť do Vlkolínec
Hey Andre, I just discovered your channel while dreaming about going back to Slovakia, haven’t been there in twenty years. One of my favourite things about Slovakia is the cuisine so I am really enjoying your channel! Keep the videos coming buddy!
Nice traditional Slovak food and drink.. This village and restaurant looks really beautiful great job as always. 😃
You are a a king André; we are glad to be having you around. (...from Slovak living in China, enjoying your videos, missing Slovakia.) ♡
I have eaten in the same restaurant in summer I can reccomend it for everyone❤
I am really happy to see your next video. I am from Slovakia :)
More videos like this, you are awesome! Show some more of Slovakia to the world!
Great video :) I am glad you like our traditional culture and cuisine. When your will be in Nitra or Bratislava, let me know. I will be happy to show you around

Another epic video Andre, keep it up that restaurant looks lovely nice atmosphere 😀

Wow I visit čičmany every year I hope you enjoyed your meal
Si super. Veľmi rád pozerám tvoje videá. 🙂
Thank You André Traveler.
Pozdravujem. 🇸🇰🇸🇰🇸🇰
Thanks for the video pal!
Awesome channel, love all your videos!
Love how you adapt to the local culture in places you visit!
Beer with borovička :D like a pure Slovak
I really love both! Acidko also comes in many flavours and my personal favorite is dark chocolate! If you ever do another part of Slovak snacks you should try other flavours of acidko! As for pirohy definitely one of my favorite foods ever. I love everything about it and it's even better with bryndza! I really like these food related videos because it's very interesting looking at someone from a different country trying these traditional Slovak foods! Keep up the good work André! 🇸🇰
Much appreciate that u liked Pirohy. 😎
In Slovakia, you have so much wooden restarants calls Salaš, you can find then on highways, near every city, near tourist spots.. They serve mostly traditional slovak/czech food!
I like how you always take a quick sneak peek of local Lavatory :D
we got a restaurant in a village next to our city called Salaš where they make perfect pirohy with bacon and bryndza topped with spring onion and sour cream and more bryndza on the side
one more reason to visit our region
moc pěkné video Andre ❤️❤️❤️❤️🏆🏆
If i have a bad day i always watch one of your videos and you cheers me up all time. God bless you and your family Andre.
i like how you enjoy every bite of meal
I love to drink Acitko, its very satisfying milky drink, they have different flavours as well, and my favourite is Strawberry one :) Glad you enjoyed our traditional food!
Yeah Acidko is pretty far from original zincica :D
👏👏👏 best content as always
Köszönöm a jó videót is készített
Zincica is very different than acidko man ;) If you went quite a defensive to taste acidko, you will have a hard time with zincica :D But go for it!
lovely , nice to see lad from other country to review ours food, im glad you liked it, not many can enjoy as they never had it and the taste is wierd to them ..., you made me hungry now :D :*
hello from slovakia 😎😎
Nice videos, welcome in Slovakia :).I suggest you visit Bojnice castle, near Prievidza really na place ,there's also Zoo and lot of swimming pools .Plus there are many restaurants/bars to explore.
That looks good, good video too
ty jsi borec :D
Acidko si different like Žinčica. Žinčica is much better.
Bro this video just reminded me that we are going to krpačovo on holiday im so exited (btw i love ur vids they are reminding me of how beautiful my country is)
ACIDKO is not very traditional slovak drink - it's something like Mullermilch or classic yogurt drink you can find in all grocery shops.
Traditional slovak drink is Kefír :)
Podla mna len nevedela spomenut slovo kefir
A to prirovnanie k Mullermichlu, to si nemohol myslieť vážne :D Urazil si naše acidofilné mlieko.
@@RazielXT kefir je hustejsi ... acidofilne mlieko je riedke.
Penzion Katka je môj obľúbený penizón a výborne som si tam tiež pochutnal. Super video 😁👌
Great work nice to watch your videos
i love your videos
pozyvam ta k nam do mesta Humenne Andre....urcite by sa ti tu pacila drevena restauracia...Koliba Hubkova s krasnym prostredim
Hey, I have been to the same restaurant 😁 The only thing about going there that I didn't like was the system they implement for paying for parking, which is kind of convoluted for tourists. The village is gorgeous and driving there is an experience on its own because of the beautiful landscape. Slovakia is so underrated, I'm happy you're showing it to the world, love your channel 👍
Cool. Sour milk is basically like liquid plain yogurt. It's healthy. Pirohy, hmm, haven't had these in such a long time. Though my mom made them differently, filled with plum lekvár (like a thick jam) and with a sweet cinnamon flavored sauce. You could fill them with almost anything, really. Glad you are enjoying Slovakia :)
Watching in school with friends!
Keep going your content, In Slovakia many people knows your videos, for exemple when you walked across Nimnica 🙌🐐
Really enjoying you enjoying Slovakia :D It's really a beautiful place. I've seen in your other videos, when ordering sweet cake, you (mostly?) go for the big cake pieces, but you really should try the small sweets found in kaviarne etc. Like veternik, laskonka, spic (filled with egg nogg), kremes, grilazka etc. That is if you like it really sweet. I'm working and living abroad from Slovakia and those are the sweets I really miss, because they can't be found anywhere else. Also go for sweet food like pirohy/sulance/knedle with jam and poppy, or langos with garlic, loksa with duck filling, fazulova polievka/bean soup, szegediner gulas (with cream)... And ofcourse smoked cheese, especially when on tour.
Next go Sweet and try Parené Buchty !
Well done André
It would be great if you visit other excellent places in Slovakia, such as salaš Krajinka, Ružomberok, salaš Kozí Vŕšok, the village of Vlkolínec, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the restaurant in Vlkolínec you can try another delicious, typical Slovak dish called Liptovské droby (Liptov offal). The High Tatras are also beautiful.
You should visit Vlčince, beatifull wooden houses here too.
I'm really enjoying your videos Andre.Btw you should try šulance makove which are basically dumplings filled with poppy seed or there's like a version when the dumplings are not filled with the poppy seed but the poppy seed is only on a top of dumplings.I recomend you to try the first version of it where the dumplings are filled with poppy seed.Sending support and waiting for another super video.
Acitko je mlieko kyslé z hypermarketu :)
Yessss.... Thats the spirit... 💪💪💪 Excelent... The souce is sourcream
nice vido Andre!
Near mountains almost half restaurants are wooden. So you will love it here 😀
looks good
😀I gotta say, it´s incredible that you eat this. Once I made original Slovak food to my African friends from Congo and they did not understand why would I put sheep cheese on potato dumplings. Even me personally as a Slovak person I don´t really like this food because it too much dairy for me but you are right, it somehow tastes good. 🙂 Nice video!
Žinčica and Acidko really are two different things. Acidko is like liquid yoghurt, it’s just fermented milk. Žinčica is made of the residual liquid that you get when you make cheese from sheep milk. I think it’s called whey in English. Fermented whey from sheep milk. Super high on protein, but also don’t mix it with just any kind of food and drinks unless you want to learn how to run real fast…to the bathroom 😂
feel good in our country, enjoy! :)
Hello im Slovakian i rlly Like ur channel
Hi André...If you'd like to try a sweet version of pirohy, I highly suggest lekvárové perky. It was on the menu you were reading. It's basically pirohy filled with jam/marmalade.
You also can try 1.kefír or 2.žincica or 3.maslianka it taste altmost the same but the way how it is made is diferent and also homemade 4.kysle mlieko its totaly diferent experience like this you can buy from shop.
Homemade Kyslé mlieko is much more richer in taste and sour.I think you will like it if your try. Enjoy
I really don't like acidko :D I would like to know what places in Slovakia you plan to visit next
Haha I was there! Love this place, it's kinda close to my home city. As I live in prague rn, I miss my Slovakia a lot! I miss the cheese and yogurt selection haha
Po tvojich videach som naozaj zacala mat rada Slovensko.Dakujem💖
yes, I like to acidko, but I only give this classic with dumplings, in the shop we have acidko which has flavors vanilla, strawberries or orange and I like them very much, if you also like this try to taste
Traditional Polish pierogi has farmers cheese and onions and potatoes in it. I like mine with sour cream and fresh dill, and mushrooms
I live 20 km from Čičmany and ooooh maaaan if i know your coming , there IS a lot nice places to see ;-)
Hello André. Try koliba Papradno in Slovakia (wooden restaurant) it´s a very lovely place and good restaurant. You will find traditional slovak food here, a lot of animals and beautiful nature ofc.
YEEES FINNALY NEW VIDEO
You could also visit Skalica and try Skalický trdelník (local pastry - like a round cake with sugar and nuts on top) and Skalický rubín (it's a local wine).
Pridi do Trenčína, máme tu krásny hrad a mesto sa ti určite tiež bude páčiť
As always, awesome video mate! But I’m affraid that what you’ve got was not žinčica, but kefir (more like a sour yogurt cow milk). Žinčica is a sheeps milk and it is more on a sweet side, with much different, thinner texture. You should visit some Salaš- authentic mountain sheeps farm, where you can get very fresh authentic sheeps cheese and žinčica. Look for some online, normally you can find them in Liptov region near High Tatras mountains, you won’t regret it ! Be careful with žinčica tho, it is very alive, and can cause some digestive issues, so try it but don’t drink too much. A glass should be ok I recon
André has a thing for wooden restaurants 😁 what a niche 😀
i love acidko & sour milk in general! please try flavoured ones. i think best one is banana or dark chocolate one.
André you have my respect! I really enjoy your videos and how enthusiastic you are in learning slovac culture. If you traveling more in Slovakia I recommend you restaurant, Salaš Krajinka, salaš Richtárka- near Ružomberok, Salaš u Franka - near Stará Ľubovňa. They have traditional dishes pirohy/ halušky also jaternice, kamiensky piroh - fried pirohy- really traditional foods from our region .... you must see, visit, try and enjoy... you are welcome here, if you need any help or advice please let me know ... all the best - Dominik
One more thing man 😀 you have to go to the Liptov region to try the fresh sheep chesse/zincica and ofcourse údený oštiepok (smoked oštiepok), that is totaly something different... in Ľubeľa- region of Liptovský Mikuláš there is a farm and they produce every day fresh products made of sheep milk ... let me know if your heading that direction, i will give you the coordinates....
Acidko..buttermilk 😋
Zincica..yuk
André, Slovakia, like Poland, is located in Central Europe, not Eastern Europe. I have lived in the UK for many years and I often encounter people who do not know the geographical location of certain countries. Either way I love watching you. As a Pole I greet our Slovak brothers.
Andre you have to find some fan, which invite you to traditional food by grandmom, or something. Real zincica and real pirohy with potato and bryndza... Or with jam.
Hello, try salas Krajinka in Slovakia. Amazing countryside and good food. Did enjoy it 3 years ago. Cheers.
Yes , Pirohy is namka! hmmm , Great choose one.
