    Still active in the hobby? I just setup the same pond and am in VB. Pothos can take a lot. I broke apart the pot washed off all of the dirt and have the roots just dangling in the water. They’ve been putting up new leaves as well, so it seems that they are happy.

    ummmm is that plant in soil....if so i doubt it will survive in that water golden pothos hate wet feet its either you put them in just water alone to develop water roots or a growing medium like clay pebbles or gravel but not with soil the roots will rot

      Hi Antonio, thanks for the advice! In our area we only have 4-5 months of pond season. It didn't have any problems in that amount if time. In fact the roots grew all the way to the bottom, and the plant grew so much I had to trim it back in order to see the minnows. I'm sure in a place like Florida or where you would have a pond set up year-around this may not be a viable option. I should've specified that for this plant/configuration. Appreciate the feedback!

    Thanks for video. Sometimes when I start small aquariums I start with 2 to 5 fish and give them a 4 to 5 weeks to cycle the sulfites, but good video on a budget.

      He put media from an established aquarium in so theres no need to cycle it

    I think you worried a little too much about stressing the pothos out. That stuff is nearly invincible.

    • @VBAquatics
      @VBAquatics  2 года назад

      You're probably right! Looking back I probably would've uprooted it a couple weeks later and replaced the dirt with gravel. Because I didn't have the pond up year-round, I wasn't to worried about it initially... I will try to ensure to make suggestions like that in the future!

      Hello Matthew, Thanks for the comment! Yes, as I am in Virginia I had to tear it down about 4 months later. The Pothos was overgrown and loving the environment. I lost 1 or 2 of the minnows, still unsure of the cause. However, the majority of them are all still alive and well in a pond in my garage I'm growing some Java Moss out in. Looking back, after a couple weeks of acclimation, I probably would have removed dirt from the Pothos and put Gravel in that plant container instead, especially if the pond was going to be up year-round. Thanks again! I might be coming out with some more videos soon... Life kind of gets in the way sometimes!

    Pothos are cool theyre also the perfect plant for reptile enclosures. That being said I would have switched that for an aquatic plant and switched its basket for gravel

    • @rushthezeppelin
      @rushthezeppelin 2 года назад

      Actually pothos survives great in a hydroponic setup is there's almost no plant out there that will clean nitrates out of water as well as it will.

    • @Slicknewt
      @Slicknewt 2 года назад

      @@rushthezeppelin the leaves cant stay wet though or they will rot so its bot really a great aquatic plant. Trust me I hear ya I grow pothos in mason jars of water but theyre not great for aquariums unless theyre just like hanging out of a filter box until thsy get huge

    • @rushthezeppelin
      @rushthezeppelin 2 года назад

      @@Slicknewt yeah just keep it trimmed up to keep leaves out of the water. They certainly do better on the sides of a setup than out in the middle. Did a ton of research on this when I was thinking of making a paludarium+refugium setup for garter snakes.

      I realize I never mentioned it, they are rosy red minnow feeder fish. Can get them just about any fish store for .10 a piece!
