Dude it’s like Jedi get +5 Wisdom points for having a full beard lol
Is that why anakin became a Sith?!
Beards bring wisdom
When he shaved for those final episodes it was -200 points tho😭
Women jedi are crying rn
@@VNM-Venom252 where was Yoda’s beard?
It's interesting that the Bendu's eyes are milky white, almost as if he himself is also blind and that he's teaching Kanan the see the same way he had to.
I think its only because he is an alien
He probably sees in a lot of ways, more than one
fun fact
@@metalsonic4.1therobothedge24 it's still an artistic move we can all appreciate
I feel like bendu is actually blind
He is one with the force
Not a living thing persay
He has no heartbeat he is the force of the planet
So he probably is blind but since the light side of the force is so strong on that planet he can see almost perfectly
In this episode, Kanan Jarus is beginning to be a true Jedi, not because of has happened to him, but the way he sees others and how to be a better person. For it is the way of a Jedi to see what to do next after their own defeat.
After Kanan has learned all that, I still hope that Kanan will get his eyes replaced by advanced cybernetics in the future by being a test subject because he has resigned to having to "see" with the Force and to help others in the Rebellion which will tie in to when Luke gets his right hand replaced.
Not needed. Literally Luke's second Jedi training is to fight blinded. Your eyes are deceptive. Being blind only frees Kanan from said burden.
That will be a few years in the future, though.
Meh, Jedi are sooo overrated. Grey knights for the win!
@@illogicalbear6200 Grey Knights are just Jedi with no conviction. They are the equivalent of Luke saying “I’ll try”.
Kanan looks cool with a beard
John Goldfield True it’s better when he has a beard.
@@strafe6735 he looks so fucking dumb when he shaves it in season 4. The beard makes him look wise and the blindness just adds on to his badassness like not many people can say that they were able to defeat Darth Maul. Too bad nobody knows cause Kanan is dead 😞
I agree
@@Bigpapa830 not necessarily. I mean, yeah I prefer him with the beard and ponytail, but him getting rid of the look to shave it is an artistic way of shedding his life as Kanan Jarrus and becoming Caleb Dume one last time
He is just a poor mans Rahm Kota.
I love this guy, added coolness, he's voiced by the fourth doctor
Kenneth Satria yes
My own ears have confirmed that.
Kenneth Satria agreed
Indeed.
Kenneth Satria he reminds me of spiritual elders from previous media like Master Oogway and Guru Pathik
“You must empty, there is only the Force” - this is why Kanan could finally “see” Hera. Filoni confirms it was not a literal depiction of dead eye cells coming back to life, but more spiritual.
Late response sorry. I always liked the idea that Kanan seeing Hera one last time was the Force rewarding him for his sacrifice.
Very cool moment. Made me super sad. Good job Rebels, you made me almost shed a tear for one of your characters. Didn’t think you had it in you, but there it was
I mean we know that his sight isn't ACTUALLY gone since in the blinding light with the holocrons fusing, he was able to see Ezra and Maul fine. So it's more like his eyesight was just severely weakened, and thus something like a giant explosion happening behind him might've let him see again.
@@Blitzvonic Same. To me it’s more that Kanan knew it was over and so he began to become one with the force which immediately sent life into his body and his eyes
Agree, this is beyond a Jedi... He let himself go and emptied himself fully, and the Force answered back
Rebels legit has some of the coolest and most mystical interpretation of the Force in all of star wars.
Fallen order did some fun stuff with the force too, mainly the zeffo
My favorite aspect of Rebel's too!
Spiders. Why did it have to be spiders
why couldn't it be follow the butterflies
Megan Bruns I love Harry potter
Bandit At least they don't have eight eyes and look creepy, they look kinda chibi.
Hehehe. Well, bandit, wait till you play fallen order
Luke Skywalker Red 5 Had to look away while running through the spider caves lol
"I am one with the Force,
The Force is with me"
xD
The force was so with him it forced him on his arse
I saw that one coming from a mile.
...And the force is with me”
This scene
“If you can see yourself, you will never truly be blind”. Bendu
a life lesson indeed
Honestly I'm so much more invested in Kanan as a character than Ezra. I'm not sure if that's the intended effect or what, but I feel like Kanan is more of the main character.
He's a recovered alcoholic who went on to try his best to complete his training (keep in mind, he was a Padawan when Order 66 happened), and he has almost no chance of defeating the Empire, which I'm pretty sure he knows.
What's more, he's still trying to teach Ezra the ways of the Force, despite the fact that he's not even a Jedi Knight until later into season 2.
During the final fight with the Grand Inquisitor, instead of attacking out of anger when Ezra dies, he calms himself and gives in completely to the Force, which I don't think we've seen happen in Star Wars canon so far (correct me if I'm wrong).
The temple guard scene gives us insight into what he might actually think in the back of his mind. "You will die, your apprentice will become a servant of evil". Yet he presses onward.
And then Maul blinds him, and we get this beautiful scene right here. I think blinding Kanan was arguably the best move this show has made so far.
And it feels like all Ezra has done is whine for three seasons lol. Yes, he has some development going on, but his changes that were noticeable in the season 3 premiere have somewhat gone away over the course of the season, whereas Kanan has really become wiser and more Jedi-like.
Wall of text over
People need to read this
Agreed.
I hate Ezra. He's just an annoying whiny kid that has nothing to do in this war, but has for some reason a strong connection to the Force.
I know kids needed a character to relate to but it only lowers an otherwise nice show
It happened with Obi-Wan when his lover died, instead of giving into hatred he calmed himself and accepeted what had happened then grieved.
TheKenji2221 1. You do realize how stupid it is to say Ezra doesn’t have a part in the war while thinking Kanan does right?
2. You fools called Ahsoka annoying throughout the first 3 seasons of the clone wars and Ezras development makes the show a lot better
Yeah Ezra is so annoying for being mad that the empire enslaved his home and killed his parents
Freddie Prinze Jr was absolutely phenomenal in this scene. I’m really able to feel Kanan’s fear and uncertainty as if it was my own every time I see this
Did not know that he was the VA. Nice
He was so incredible and gave so much life and emotion to Kanan.
@@mysticgothmama6796 yeah no sh*t! I can’t imagine anyone other than him voicing Kanan! He was absolutely perfect for the role! As were Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray, Steve Blum, and Tiya Sircar! They really gave it their all and exceeded expectations. I think it also helped that their real life personalities are so very much like that of their fictional characters. The crew of Rebels really knew what they were doing in looking for people “with the same personalities.”
Rebels is so good. That self-realization was heart wrenching.
It takes a strong person to look within and confront their own fears and failings. Too many would rather judge others and blame them.
Kanan could all to easily put all the blame for what happened on Maul and Ezra. But it wouldn't help him move beyond where he is now, and now that he has realized and confronted his own fear, anger, and regret, he can become so much more.
@@samsonguy10k
A boss character. A dude who learns the same way that he leads. This is a man, a myth, a legend! Kanan Jarrus: Jedi Knight!
It sucks
I agree 5 years later! It is so underrated series. Many ways in par with clone wars. Rebels season 1 is, in my opinion, better that season 1-3 of clone wars overall.
this is probably my favourite scene in the entire series. i keep coming back to it.
This is what happens when you learn from the Fourth Doctor, you succeed.
wait. That's Tom Baker???
Indeed it is! :D
The Curator
And now I would quite like a jelly baby...
New Rahm Kota confirmed.
i wish the real Rahm kota was cannon
keep waiting
+Omar Rivas Bustinza he is. the story of Galen Marek is canon
***** can we not do the canon thing again?
I mean really the horse is dead get the FUCK OFF..
Lets count HOW MANY non canon things are now canon again because of this ONE episode..
lesee.. the bendu(Yes they were EU look it up) The terms ashla and bogan, Y wings, oh yah and last but not least THRAWN... the frigging murder smurf himself.
according to the art i saw at SWCE... galen WILL be canon again by the end of this season.. in some fashion.. it may not be the same as his original story but it will be there.
so can we Please please please please PLEASE for the love of God and your own body.. give the "Its not canon" thing a FUCKING REST!!
I. Am. Not. Canon.
Obi Wan Kenobi's right your eyes can deceive you don't trust them!
I believe Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman and it's 1989 remake Blind Fury are major influences behind Kanan becoming a blind Jedi. Like Nick Parker, he learns to use his senses.
This should be a quote used in everyday life
Is it only me that loves Bendu as a character? Whoever did the voice acting is amazing at what they do.
Believe me. You're not even close to the only one.
@Nevieth not to mention but Tom Baker also has a Hell of dirty mouth too lmao. Love that man.
Toph should teach him. Twinkle toes
She would only be useful to him if he could earthbend... and he can't do that and she can't use the force so they would be useless to each other.
Dennis campos but avatar is still wonderful. I was sad when they stopped airing it on TV
Seamus Robison omg ikr I loved that show so much

Blasphemer, it's a great show
@@levyan4718 he literally made this comment 5 years ago, before season 3 and 4 had fully come out yet. I’m certain he holds a more positive view of the show nowadays.
Unfortunately, your spelling isn't getting better as the years go on
And in the end.. due to his sacrifices, the force returned his sight..
And he was able to see the ones he loved...
one last time.
Like in Tros, ben sacrificed himself and he was able to be alive for enough time, to share a moment with the one he loves.
Follow the light and you will see. Just as Kenobi saw the children of his brother in the Force be finally united before he passed on.
@@gnatmalzahar8452 That isn't canon

Kanan being blinded surely was one of the more interesting twists on the story
they have all sorts of cybernetics to replace limbs and body parts in star wars but no eye cybernetics?
False, Wolffe.
how so?
Did he not have a cybernetic eye?
no not that i know of
yes thats what im getting at why doesnt kanon jarrus get cybernetic eye replacements?
2:02 It's... it's just awe-inspiring. Kanan's look and movement, voice acting, music... the message. Personally, I think it's one of the best scenes in all of Star Wars.
Kanan "keep it as a gift"
Next day
"hey so i need that gift back"
Rebels was a decent show that couldn’t quite hit a consistent mark but any episode that had Kannan development was always enjoyable. Loved watching him grow
Agreed
Kinda reminds of Tom Bombadil for a reason. The one ring didn't bother him at all, though he really wouldn't be able to use it either.
unlike Tom the Bendu would not likely misplace the Holocron
Shadx27 there is a theory that Tom was one of the Gods of the LotR world in mortal form, so objects like the One Ring would have zero effect on him. Unfortunately, Tolkien died before he could resolve that matter.
AidanWoW another theory was that tom was illuvatar himself

As someone who is blind I love this. This is great character development for Kanin. He becomes a better jedi and person and teacher after this. If only Grogu was here for this lesson. That self realization at the end was wonderful and sad. He owed Bendu a big debt for helping him to reconnect with his emotions and the force and his friends.

Guess it makes sense. Who better to help with an affliction than a Doctor?
Hobby Drifter Would you like a jelly baby?
not just a Doctor, but the Doctor, the definite article you may say
I love the bendu
The way he laughed at the sith Holocron made me remember how he's in the middle not saying he's evil but yknow he's clearly not good he's just the force
Black Manta he probably laughed because he thinks the Sith are nothing more then insects and isn't even afraid of them period
Black Manta
Mace fell out of the Windu
the Bendu are the best species of the Star Wars Universe, there are stories of the Order of Dai Bendu and the Dai Bendu Monks, warriors mastering the Force in balance that were taught by the Bendu but they cease to existe as they were part of the founders of the Je'Daii Order, the Bendu almost created the Jedi. Wish te Bendu Order still existed... They would wreck the inquisitors faces
This Bendu teacher was amazing in this short scene. Such power and wisdom.
I love how Bendu puts an emphasis on "Jedi Knight" words directed to Kanan, after Kanan comes to realise he's not truly blind anymore.
This is like Fourth Doctor porn... I never thought anyone would be better than the Tenth Doctor droid but DAMN if ol' Tom didn't knock it out of the park...

He has other perspective. Yoda see things in balance from the Light side of the Force, Bendu sees them from between.
perhaps see it as a whole too

The Bendu is indeed a wise and interesting being. He is so close, and yet so far from understanding.
Tom Baker is perfect for a Star Wars role, just as he was for Doctor Who.
this is more of what i want star wars to be like. More relatable philosophical teachings, less flashy swords
Pretty much

What an amazing Jedi. I learned how to see a long time ago lmao.
Then they brought the spiders back as terrifying beasts in Mandalorian
That bit where he says what Kanene smelt was a 'fascinating description' makes me think. Why's it fascinating, and is there gonna be one of those twists where somebody else comes to the Bendu and its just a pole of rocks or a skeleton or something? I love the Bendu though :3
Kanan initially spoke like he knew nothing about the spiders, yet he knows how they smell, how they sound and even how they think.
It was interesting because he wasn't describing the smell of the spiders, he was describing the smell of the darkside. If he was describing the smell of the spiders, he would have known that they were right in front of him.
Title correction - The Doctor teaching Kanan how to see.
Will H no, HE learned it. The eyes of the oracle cannot be given, they can only be taken.
Ive alway wondered what it would be like if Ashoka ever met Bendu, like what would they talk about, seeing as how they're both balanced Force wielders.
Apparently ahsoka has already met the bendu
If I recall correctly, in a concept segment for an episode, Ahsoka met the Bendu before their trip to Malachor and the Bendu predicted her supposed death fighting Vader and he asked her if she was ready to face the truth (Vader being Anakin)
Tom Baker is truly a legend.
2:22
When Kanan senses Ezra in danger he is so worried and that’s why I love the two of them together!🥰🥰🥰
kanan looks so badass with the eye mask and the beard
fun fact for those who don't know the bendu is voice by none other then the 4th Doctor himself Tom Baker.
I loved the rebels, it was a good continuation from the Clone Wars and the good Dr is always with us 👍😁
He's a good therapist
I took an evening class here in the UK in English Literature a couple of decades back; part of the course involved us seeing a play - An Inspector Calls. Tom Baker was the lead, of course. AMAZING presence on-stage (even considering his 6'2" height), with his voice BOOOOOOMING out across the theatre. Absolute joy watching him work :D
Mr Birling?
alternate title : man opens his eyes, is amazed
This is beautiful.
I freaking love Bendu!
Those spiders are so cute.
I just love these all-knowing hermit types in Star Wars: Yoda, Old Obi-Wan, Old Luke Skywalker and of course The Bendu
Woah. Tom Baker as the Bendu. Crazy. :D
It doesn't feel real to hear the voice of my favourite Doctor in Star Wars
Hearing the 4th Doctor speaking of Jedi and the Force is just... it's something that brings a tear to my eye.
If every episode in rebels was as good as this, I would’ve definitely considered watching it a lot more than I did.
Well most episodes are as good as this one since season 2. There are only 2 episodes after season 1 that i consider bad: iron squad and whyntaku job. The rest of the episodes are amazing. Some better than anothers buuut as a whole the show works as a dream
kanan was without a doubt the best character of the show he starts off in s1 as insecure and unsure of himself as a teacher and through s2 as well but by s3 he becomes much more sure of himself and he becomes so much cooler after he was blinded he was more calm and wiser and I just absolutely love his development that he went through sabine also had a good character arc in s3 and 4 and hera was fleshed out good enough too with everything about her relationship with Cham and zeb started out annoying but he got better chopper was always the same and ezra was whinny and then he became edgy for a couple episodes and then went back to whinny rebels is a good show and it's different from clone wars cause it's about a group of characters we never met before if you haven't it's worth a watch but don't hate on it cause it's not clone wars that's just annoying and hivemind brainwashing
it feels bad that Cal Kestis (from jedi fallen order) didnt done a force thing like that because he ran into areas with different creatures and he just killed them, or the game made u kill them
Jedi Survivor is likely to go this mystical path now. Fallen Order is more comparable to Kanan before he was blinded.
in this episode I love the background music

I love this rebels was so good
Cancelling Clone Wars was a huge mistake, the show had evolved so much and had a lot more to tell. Rebels is only now getting truly interesting with that amazing season 2 finale. I'd love to see the studio take on events from the Old Republic even if all it is was a mini series. And just FYI, your best episodes in both Clone Wars and Rebels are when you're not pandering to 7 year olds. It's still kid friendly it's just that some of your episodes feel like Dora the Explorer with lightsabers.

BENDU TO KANAN JARRUS
I WANT THE SITH HOLOCRON
Why??!! It's dangerous!! D:
it's only dangerous to those who use the Dark side of the force for a non true nature, you can be knowledgeable of the dark side and not cause harm to others, but power consumes the weak,
its like i always say theres good and bad in every thing even in them selves
It's not that dangerous if you have self control.
Just look at the Bendu and Grey Jedi in general; They have both knowledge and control over the Dark Side and are arguably nicer than Jedi.
