English Lyrics:
In English:
Verse 1
Arirang, Arirang, Arariyo...
Arirang gogaero neomeoganda.
Nareul beorigo gasineun nimeun
Simnido motgaseo balbyeongnanda
Arirang, Arirang, Arariyo...
I am crossing over Arirang Pass.
The man/woman who abandoned me
Will not walk even ten li before his/her feet hurt.
Verse 2
Cheongcheonghaneuren byeoldo manko
Urine gaseumen kkumdo manta
Just as there are many stars in the clear sky,
There are also many dreams in our heart.
Verse 3
Jeogi jeo sani Baekdusaniraji
Dongji seotdaredo kkonman pinda
There, over there that mountain is Baekdu Mountain,
Where, even in the middle of winter days, flowers bloom.
I've lived 17 of my 21 years in California, but every time i hear Arirang my Korean blood brings tears to my eyes, and my heart aches for a home I've never known.
This is the best version for sure.
That's beautiful what you said.
I'm not Korean in fact I'm Congolese (from Africa) but when I'm listenning to this song I'm touched to the depth of my soul. Even if I don't understand the lyrics.Powerful and beautiful song.
never found a better version than this...I've been listening to this for more than a decade now
I want remember that there are not sad songs. Any kind of songs or music rich in melody and Harmony reach the Heart of pubblic, that is the most important. "If the world could only hear the power of the Harmony"!!!
I learned to sing and love this song when I was in 5th grade in Germany (with mostly German lyrics). I have sung it hundreds of times ever since and taught it to my children. Thank you for posting this moving rendition!
Even tho I don't understand Korean, his singing of this song is fantastic! It gives me goose bumps.... I want to sing along with him! I want to eat Korean foods now!!!
@liverpool1969100 I am very glad you said that. Your Korean ethnicity will never change even though your nationality has. I have the greatest respect for the Korean people. No, I am not Korean but Chinese. Be proud my friend!

(After 17 years) your wish came true. This video was #1 on my search for "Arirang".
아리랑 ♥️
터키에서 그 노래를 듣고있어요🇰🇷🇹🇷
I played this song in college many years ago - the version by the American John Chance! I didn't know how much culture was in this song. NOW - I know why it haunts me to this day. I love the melody so much I could never ever place it out of my mind. What a blessing for the people of Korea to have such a wonderful mantra! Arirang!
oooooh, i do wish I knew Korean, but even not being able to I got the biggest goosebumps when the audience joined in.
I lived in Seoul many years ago. This is the most beautiful version of the song that I have heard. I can actually sing it with him...
Although I am not Korean. But What a beautiful song. I love the way this wonderful artist has made me feel. Amazing.
Godlike. I have tears in my eyes... Koreans should be really proud! What feeling! what voice! Jang Sa Ik is blessed
I'm not a Korean and I, being 15 years old, like KPOP. I came across this while going through KPOP songs and I fell in love with this right away. It might sound absurd but I really like this song. I'll definitely search more of Korean traditional folk songs from now on.
I think Westwing episode put it best describing Han in English. Sadness so deep that no words or tears would come out. And yet in that bleakest of moment, there's a hope and unwavering spirit to overcome it all. There are a number of versions of Arirang from various provinces in Korea. Not all of them are melancholic or sad. This probably is one of the best rendition of one of the version.
When i hear this my blood rushes with relief, and happiness. I love my country Korea no matter where i live at the moment.
I've just take aknowledgment of this song through a korean friend and this is beautiful.
I only knew that it was a sorrow song but about love... This video, the song or something else makes me feel a crying of love
I agree with you and I always get the same feeling whenever I listen to this song. It is so powerful and uplifting!
Absolutely! Every Korean should be proud of this song. In fact it could easily be their national anthem!
This is a very moving song and to a non-korean, even I can understand why.
This is my favorite Korean song now.
Among arirang songs I like this version the best.
I am very touched by this song. It brought tears to my eyes.
Yes, and the Korean have every reason to be proud of it. As a Chinese I always find this song very moving.
Wow, Arirang is 600 years old!! That is facinating! I thought it was only about 100 years old. A real joy. Thanks for posting.

Please don't be sad, be proud of who you are and hang on to your cultural values. Look at the bright side and things will come right at the end. All the best!
I remember hearing this song played on Pohang beach in Korea on the night of a big fireworks festival, pretty much the whole city was there and all singing along. It was lovely it was! What an awesome summer, I hated having to come back to England :(

A beautiful, stirring song performed beautifully by all. The drummer's face is a study in its own.
The “drummer” brings all of this presentation together, along with the joining of the chorus, wonderful!
this is a very moving and unique song that reflects the profound soul of a nation and its ancient culture, even though i'm not Korean this melody touches me deeply.
I agree. I like their mobile phones and flat screen TVs too!
As you said it's out of this world.
Woow.
On an excursion train ride in WV, I walked through a car that was all Korean Tourists.
I quietly began to sing "Arirang"...the Korean group leader stood up and said to everyone, "He is going to sing Arirrang for us !" Everyone stood up and we all sang "Arirang" together ! They thanked me for my service in Korea during the war....and I complimented everyone saying " You have a beautiful country." I can only say that "I really love the Korean People and their wonderful spirit of life.
My family and I thank you for your service!

Maravilhoso !!!
Hi mowho33
Glad you liked it and click "More" on the top right panel on this page for the lyrics of this folk song.
Enjoy!
@visiblejosh Thanks you very much for that. What you have said is exactly how my South Korean friends had explained Arirang to me. To me though, it expresses the longing of the unification of the North and South Korea. I am not sure when this will happen and when it does, it will be a difficult, painful and long drawn out process. My personal view is that the North people (not government) deserves better. Best wishes from the UK.
proud to be korean.saying true to my roots.
-islandgurl21

@Hananim91 If only you know the history of Korea, you wouldn't have made this comment! Best wishes and thank you for your comment.
It would be appreciated if someone could supply an accurate English translation.
So we (I) could appreciate the song even more.
thanks
thanks for this touching song. Can anyone here tell me what Arirang means in Korean?
I sang this in high school so many years back. Is it true that the song is about a woman who commits suicide or something?
i think so many countries have the same centiment with Korea - ireland, poland, greece and so many invaded, colonized during several centuries - so they think they are innocent sacrefice lamb, full of immotion. yes this is very good condition for beautiful, emotional art. especially music and literature - but i think we must know we have very wicked parts in ourselves..... the historical national grief sometimes can become fertilizer for fascism...i don;t want Korea to became Israel..
i am Korean, and i agree..
post the lyrics in korean...I want to read it in korean...
