to add onto the obligate nasal breathing fact, the only reason cats and dogs with brachycephalism (pugs, french bulldog, persian cat) exist is because they can breathe through their mouths which is why i hate when people irresponsibly breed arabians specifically for an exaggerated dished nose because that's inhibiting their ability to breathe

Unfortunately we can’t stop irresponsible breeders. I currently have a pug and she’s starting to sound a little nasal, I’ve been limiting the factors that make it worse such as weight, she’s always been a solid healthy weight I try to limit rough exercise but give her enough exercise to where she gets her energy out, I’m also feeding her a healthy diet of wet food and probiotics. I know it won’t do much but I unfortunately didn’t have a say when my family got her, I was too young to understand but I’m definitely not going to get another pug because it’s devastating to see their health decline.
