Hi I saw this vid in 2020 and propagated only 1 small branch of hydrangea and today I saw my plant has produced flower 🥺🥺🥺 Thank you so much ❤️ Update: My baby hydrangea plant gave me 19 bunches of flowers this year 🥺
I took Hydrangea cuttings in 2017 and have them in my garden today. They appeared and looked their best at the beginning of my August 2020 update on my channel. The original plant was growing at my parents house in the 1960's and still going strong. Happy Growing.
Hello ,I think it works for the first time with winter, early spring , cuttings this year.I had 3 of them directly into the sand ,and one is growing now.I try this method also in the summer .Thank you!
In my very limited experience, hydrangeas are some of the toughest plants around. I get the feeling that you could tear off any little twig, ram it into the ground at any time of year, and expect a new rooted plant in a few weeks .
@@HouseplantsLife Next time y can cut a small soda bottle and cover your cuttings with the top. You must remove the lid so they can breathe. Due to the greenhouse effect, they will conserve water for much longer.
Thsnks for sharing as i am looking forward now confidently to do it. I really hope my cuttings will grow. Autumn is begining here in New Zealand and hopefully it will not affect the growth.

They say not to make a hole in the soil so the cutting will be tighter and make more roots and using rooting hormone won't harm, also at least two leaf nodes under the soil.
Agreed thanks for the video.........but I would use root hormone, cut right under a leaf node, bury it so the leaf node is underground, soak new cuttings in water after cutting so they don't scab over, and use perlite/vermiculite as a starting soil medium.
Thank you for this video. I'm going to do this now. I LOVE Hydrangeas. I want to be able to save money on plants. I spend so much on plants. You know what is funny? I have those little cups from my applesauce. I save them and soak seeds. I eat about 4 of those a day. I put the applesauce in the freezer. Its so delicious that way. I was wondering when you took the cutting out of the cup, it was a bigger cup. The other ones had died. Did you put them outside, or you left them inside, after they grew their leaves?
question, how long did they stay in the smaller pots, and how long in the bigger pots, and when to transfer them to the main garden, and how farm apart do i plan them in the garden, thanks in advance.
When the roots have grown enough, you can transplant them to a larger pot or garden. However, hydrangeas love water, so be careful with watering for a while.
Plus I’ve also heard to do this in the spring it is much much better they say in the fall time you can also but it’s better in the spring but where in the hell do I put them over the winter time since they’re not in the ground yet isn’t there a way we could put them in like a 2 gallon pot and just keep them downstairs with a little light
Hello what are those trays called? I want to try it. I buy hydrangeas but they die every time, my mother in laws are huge and want to cut and make some. Thank you
@@HouseplantsLife I’m confused by your answer. I wasn’t asking if they were available. I was asking if you had to use the hardwood part OR if you could use the softer part to propagate. Hope that makes sense.
Just to clarify: the reason they all died is because you did not water them for a whole week and the soil dried out? Like you went on vacation or something?
Hi I live in a hot climate and I have seen the video and read responses. I noticed you did not cover the seedlings to retain moisture. Is it right for a climate that ranges about 29-33C with humidity of 65-75?
I have propagated this plant in the month of November and now I have seen that the green leaves are coming out..But after few days the tip of the leaves become dry..Is there any specific reason why the tip of the leaves getting brown and dry??
Did you put the node under the dirt, and did you physically see roots because this girl didn't put her nodes under and sure you'll get green and flowers but that doesn't last very long because it doesn't have the root structure, so her video is incorrect and it's the only how to root a hydrangea and it's bad I formation.
Thanks for the video and I'm sorry the rest couldn't make it,what was the reason? How often should I water them? And can I Keep them inside?I'd like to give it a try! Thanks again and stay safe and healthy🌹
I did this to some soft stem growth on my hydrangea and stuck them straight into soil and watered with fertilizer water. Should i take them out and put in smaller soil pots? Or will the 6” pot with 4-5 stems in it be fine?
If it's mould killing them then use a cleaner media. I find using a clear container to cover it helps keep moisture high and increases chances of success
can hydrangea be kept indoors? we're in tropical climate and everyone's saying it won't bloom if too hot temp. transplanted successfully but not blooming.. we turn on aircon lunch and dinner time, think it'll help? I'm desperate for them to bloom!
Man I hope you have the time to answer me or maybe other people can but I’m getting some stems from my friend and it’s going to be cool really soon is it OK to keep them downstairs and how much light will they need or is it OK to leave them in the bucket and just let them freeze
you should keep the flower buds at a temperature not lower than 0 degrees Celsius , and not higher than +6 degrees. Therefore , put your plant in the garage , or in the basement .
It dried out in plastic because you have to punch a hole from below. In thermocoal glass it soaks water so its ok. Thanks for the video. I love this flower and really want to grow more in my garden.
You use soil, cocopeat or perlite! And for good drainage of the water you use a cocopeat soil mix and perlite. But take always a couple off cuttings because you can loose one or two! Not over water them, just once on 4 pr 5 days and feel the soil if it is a little moistured, and when dry give them some some water but not overwater when they don't have roots.
The text at 5:09 says that they died because they weren't watered for over a week. Weak new roots in tiny pots without water and it would've been a miracle if they survived.

Very good and uncomplicated video. Can't go wrong. I get your point, keep short stem cuttings moistened as they dry out too quickly. Thank you.

It is recommended to avoid winter.

Thank you, going to do my cuttings this very minute!
I already have hydrangeas but I want more, I will try to do the same but planted next to it. hopefully works.
Does this method only work on mature cuttings? I have a baby plant I'd love to propagate
What time of year were the cuttings taken? Thanks
Thanks for the video. I’m going to try it this year.
Hi, I was wondering what kind of soil you used?
I think seedling soil is advised. They don't like strong fertilizer soil when producing roots.
Hi there great video.
How often do you water them once you’ve planted? X

Hydrangea loves water.
When the top soil is dry, just water it.
You can adjust it according to the temperature and the size of the pot.
Not enough evidently :)

Can be done in all seasons except cold winter. However, there are ways to do it even in winter.
I like to do it in early summer and summer.
So is this what not to do or is it just bc you didn't water them?

Did you leave the cuttings outside?

Hydrangea loves water and sunlight. A total lack of sunlight will result in weak leaves and weak stems.

when is right time to make plants from cuttings
Cutting is possible at any time.
However, it is better to avoid the cold winter, right?

Do they want direct sunlight
It is a sun-loving plant. However, during the propagation period and rooting period, it is better to place it in semi-shade.

did you have to keep them covered or in a cool environment?
It is important not to let the water dry out
Put it in half shade and gradually increase the amount of light.
No holes in the cups?
Are they like roses where you should make a mini greenhouse for each cutting?
You can it just helps the plant have some humidity since it doesn't have roots to take up water it can take it from the air hence mini greenhouse
