Yay! I love it when Timmy makes a cameo 😂 I appreciate him driving you to these places and filming you sometimes so you can bring us along. Great video, as always 😊🌱
I love watching this video for all the sunlight and greenery. Middle of winter here and I really miss the sun and the warmth and various planty shades of green 😊 thank you!
I really appreciate your videos and content. It brightens my day and it feels like catching up with a good friend with a shared passion for plants! Thank you again!
No two more beautiful words in the English language than "Plant shopping." Those nurseries are a slice of heaven. 🌄🌈🌠You are so lucky to live in Sidney. We have it pretty good here too, though can't complain about the weather.
I enjoyed tagging along with you and Mr.Timmy ..such interesting plants and nurseries! I'm glad your interested in not just house plants! I love plants I don't discriminate! Nature is beautiful! Thanks for inviting us along
Always a good time checking out the local nurseries. It will be fun seeing your journey with outdoor gardening and all your flowering natives. We've noticed too that prices drop in Fall over here when the blooms are all gone and growers liquidate inventory . We came away with several large colocasia for dirt cheap as the plant shop didn't want to take up indoor space overwintering them. I'm excited to try them outdoors when it warms back up, because yes they are huge!😻
Being the dead of winter with ice storms in the U.S. I really enjoyed plant shopping with you. You have some amazing places there. I wish we even had something like Bunnings. I'm excited to see how things grow in the future. Thank you for sharing this with us. ❤
so much fun! love the big pond in the 2nd nursery, my nearest nursery has cool koi ponds but nothing that fabulous, wow! thanks for taking us for the small biz nursery tour. edit omfg 26:19 hahahaha
Nice to get an idea of other nurseries out there! Might make the trip up north side on a not so hot day (or on a really hot day and get a swim in first 😁) I'm also REALLY looking forward to seeing Timmy's garden when it's finished 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I do love a nursery tour. Thanks ! After watching your moss pole video yesterday I finally found out your name is Jon. Here I was thinking it was Sydney 🙂
So much fun seeing what is being grown and sold in other parts of the world. Your weather has me longing for spring here in Wisconsin.................gonna be a long wait yet...............
Man on a Mission!! I'd still be back at the first nursery only a third of the way through. I like to peruse. I'm new to the indoor plant world, so I want to stop and examine each plant 🪴 and, of course, I would want one of each plant as well. 😅
Haha fair enough !! I have so many plants by now, space is precious :) so it's a more relaxed stroll through the nurseries just looking for something 'special' :)
If i see it right, 4:38 it’s a Colocasia x Fontanesii. It’s an amazing plant, we have a lot of Colocasias. And the “roots” above the ground, they are called “tendril” or “bine”. These can be propagated with this tendrils. It can take root and produce leaves at each node. I love these plants so much. 🤗💚
A nice native plants tour ,yes there's so much more than indoor plants!! Even one after my name which I didn't know about it.. Very hot days in Sydney ,and tomorrow for Australian day Will be🌞and very hot .... Have a great long weekend ❤️🇦🇺❤️ 💚🌿🌵🍀💚
With all those natives, you'll be expanding content to wildlife. We have honeyeaters, lorikeets and rosellas hanging out in our front yard and I can hear babies cheaping from somewhere. I love coming home and being told to get inside by an amazingly coloured bird, or is that just me?
Really excited to see you’re getting into natives, my other plant-based obsession. Lots of great reasons to get into them- they’re good for the environment, it’s cool to see birds and insects use them (I grow some things to attract butterflies and get caterpillars, for example- adds an entirely different dynamic to the garden experience), and learning about the local ecosystem. It’s a really neat way to interface with the surrounding nature. It also makes going on hikes with iNaturalist and a plant identification app very exciting! You can sometimes propagate from local seeds or cuttings. Natives also have a steeper learning curve, because a lot of these plants aren’t your standard box store plants with hundreds of tutorials online on how to grow them, nor have all of them been selectively bred to be hardy and resilient. Native plant specialty stores are likely to have plants you can’t really buy in other countries, which is cool. Looking forward to seeing that native balcony!
Great Video. I have to tell you a funny story. I left a comment for an plant content creator from the USA, saying that I enjoyed their content (as you do). He responded by asking me if I lived near Sydney and did I enjoy going to Bunny's (I think he meant bunnings). You truly do have an international fan base. lol Keep up the great work. You are making quite an interesting portfolio of content. I thoroughly enjoyed this video during a time when I can't easily get to any local nurseries. Thanks.
OMG. Thanks, now I can finally watch this in Korean subtitles.❤❤❤ I am a huge fan from Seoul. Please let us see all your videos in Korean🙏 so I can recommend this to my plant's friends as well. 😅
That was great fun, I do love the little independent nurseries. Their staff are very knowledgeable with alot more varieties you don’t see in Big Box Stores & as you say “They Have The Vibe”. Unfortunately they are getting fewer & fewer here in NZ.
I cant believe I am in the same head space as you after an extensive collection of tropical indoor plants I have transferred many into my greenhouse and have gone ballistic into collecting Australian natives but now Im also looking at ponds and bird baths I want to bring the wildlife back into the garden
So different from Melbourne nurseries..its amazing how much more tropical plants you guys can get..on a better note..my stuttgart canna has pushed through and looking divine 😍..I definitely owe you for that 1 👍😁
When you were talking about Bunnings, I was wondering what kind of store it was. I live in the US, so it's like our Lowes or Home Depot! I love your channel. Thanks for all your advice and experiences with your plants.
Through pretty 'houseplants' I got more interested in so many other plants and even my local ecosystems.. 1 small thing can be the spark to ignite something big 😄 It also got you more interested in natives right??
The video is amazing as always! You've visited very nice nurseries, I absolutely enjoyed it! Just a little note for the camera, the quality is a little bit laggy eventho I'm on premium 1080p HD
Nice mate, watch out with that Banksia speciosa, it's a WA banksia, they don't often do well on the east coast, way too humid for them, even with really good drainage. Lost too many because of it. Speciosa goes somewhat okay on the east coast but humidity, especially humid summers will kill them. I've had issues with occidentalis on the east coast. Probably won't flower here, just trying to survive. Only WA banksia i've had flower has been blechnifolia Good luck though!
I really like big plants, but honestly, the small ones I start with in tube stock seem to do the best in my garden. They just adapt better to where they're planted and little disease risk.
No offense intended, growing up in Asia I used to eat alocasia and colocasia (tubers, stems and leaves) cooked in soups with coconut milk or in a dessert. The stems and leaves can either be dried first before cooking or cooked after harvest. The tubers are either boiled and eaten plain or added into soups, fried, or added in a dessert. Although some of them can make your throat itch if not prepared correctly. My apologies for turning your shopping for plants for Tim's garden into a grocery lol
Loved shopping with you again Thankyou What was the second banksia did u get , I couldn't catch the name ?You going to put them in pots ? I killed all my proteas in the ground , I will try a pot ?
Hey Sydney Guy! Love the videos and vibes you give off. Keep up the good work. I do have a question; how high is the humidity in your living room? The plants you grow need high humidity to thrive right? Thank you in advance.
Have you considered Fatsia japonica, or would that be too pedestrian? I call them "poor man's monstera". Their light green tropical look is a nice contrast to darker plants and they are, essentially unkillable. You can cut them very harshly (to the ground) and they'll happily grow right back. They love the heat, can stand the cold, and will grow indoors or out, but they just don't like full sun inland. They also propagate very readily.
Love those Colocasia. I am in HK and trying to grow plantlets indoors. Not sizing up at all and also have old leaf drying up. But just put a grow light on it w added humidity and seems to solve the problem. Anyone else also try them indoors?
Random question: the red on my variegated banana has faded, not enough light? She’s still young under a grow light, she’ll be finally going outside this summer. Any other suggestions to get her red popping again? I don’t think she’s got too much light, she’s not outside… just a grow light, think I answered my own question sorry Hi Tim!! Jan don’t ignore him! He’s a legend!!
They like to grow on the edge of a pot. You could try & replicate this sort of environment in a pot of course but I'm trying to avoid standing water due to the terrible mozzie issues :D

Hope you enjoy the video :)

That made me laugh out loud 😄

Fun day! That was the most amazing bird of paradise ever!

the shiny leafed colocasia with black stems and runners ''stolons'' is called colocasia ''fontanesii''

Hello!! The red variegation on a banana plant indicates a plantain tree.

Hey Sydney Guy! Love the videos and vibes you give off. Keep up the good work. I do have a question; how high is the humidity in your living room? The plants you grow need high humidity to thrive right? Thank you in advance.
Thanks :) humidity changes with the weather but on average 50
20:40 pretty sad bunch under the tent, lots of beauty around though!
Yeah I think they underestimated how wild it will grow :D
My kind of pub crawl 😂
@sydneyplantguy You should find a green pot for your oxalis. I bet it would be perfect!

Bunnings looks like the equivalent of a Lowe's here in the states.
Have you considered Fatsia japonica, or would that be too pedestrian? I call them "poor man's monstera". Their light green tropical look is a nice contrast to darker plants and they are, essentially unkillable. You can cut them very harshly (to the ground) and they'll happily grow right back. I don’t mind the look of them but given the limited space I have, there’s other plants I’d rather grow :)
@@sydneyplantguy I always like to have a few plants that are super low maintenance, because it helps all the other plants remain happy.

Hi Tim!! Jan don’t ignore him! He’s a legend!!
From my experience too much light can make the red fade & you can’t fully avoid the fading … it will happen over time :)
@@sydneyplantguy oh! Ok I’ll move it back a bit from my light, thanks! It’s still not the size of yours yet so still should have the red for now

You can buy taro in the grocery store just soak it because it has growth inhibitors on it

Ohhhhh better price 😅
Omg! The prices! In India you'd get these plants for 1/8th or 1/10th the price!
But do you maybe also earn 1/8th or 1/10th ? You cannot compare costs and ignore income :)
Timmy..!😂😂😂
Local nursery are similar to those found in India but man plants in AUS are really expensive 😅😂
Everything in Australia is expensive … but minimum wage in Australianis also high. You can’t just look at costs without looking at income :)
I’m surprised you don’t have a pond or a pond in a pot.
