You had previously talked about a war of the unwilling. It seems to me that all of those forced Ukrainian conscripts pressed into service aren't really too into facing the Russians. And so when it looks like there's going to be a battle they do the sensible thing and just run away.
Ukraine sends its best towards Kursk only to form a cauldron where their best troops and equipment are being eliminated. Meanwhile, the AFU's Eastern Front is without its best soldiers and is collapsing.
It's like a team attempting to win the championship without their best players. It could be that the Donbass falls to the Russians much faster than anyone would have realized. The game is just about over for the West.

I dare say that in Kursk they are burning the most experienced units to avoid a military coup in Kiev. At the same time they are putting strong pressure on two countries that do not want to support the war, namely Slovakia and Hungary. Ukraine is occupying pumping stations of the pipeline supplying these countries.

The kursk offensive is for nothing much good. The Ukranians cannot build defence lines and fortifications without proper military support from Sumy region. Russia is always advantage because they can use all the natural defences as rivers, hills, woods for the time being untill they have build up their own defences with the support from the backlands sections of Russia.

The purpose of the Kursk offensive is political: Ukr wants to internationalise the war. Concretely - to persuade the US and European countries to allow Ukr to take the war to Russia by allowing Kiev to hit targets deep.inside Russia. Basically Ukr wants to demonstrate that Russia is decrepit and thst there is no need to fear her.

I heard on another channel that Russia hit the main oil supply just over the border in Ukraine, and because of that the Kursk force has not been resupplied with gas. That they can't move with any speed and their armor is stalled and being picked off with ease. If true, the front makes a lot of sense.

They likely brought them in close to be able to fire at targets much deeper into Russia and behind Russian defensive lines. We've seen reports of attacks on the Kursk nuclear power plant and other targets deep behind the Russian border.
They were probably also planning on penetrating much deeper into Russia with their offensive. Having the MLRS close by gives their attacks a faster response time and makes it much harder for Russia's AD forces to shoot them down their rockets.
The idea that they are low on long range rockets should not be dismissed either. They were only provided with a limited number of them to begin with. Between their constant attacks on Russian civilian and military targets as well as Russia's talent for destroying Ukraine's ammunition stockpiles, they likely are running low on western MLRS rockets in general.
In conclusion, I think its a combination of things. They're trying to attack deeper into Russia, they don't want their rockets being shot down and they don't have that many of them left.
They're going nowhere fast, bro..simple.

I don't know of many large Russian cites but I hear it is basically a 30% of a Texas-size-economy battling 1-2%-economy of 0.33% of large cites on the planet.
