  • Many people living with an ostomy are either worried about developing a parastomal hernia or already have one. Tune in here live for our next Ostomy Academy on March 12 to hear colorectal surgeon Jenny R. Speranza discuss prevention, types of surgical repairs, and success rates. She’ll be joined by WOC nurse practitioner Ashley Croft to discuss nonsurgical management and share lifestyle and diet suggestions. The speakers will field viewer questions along with Ostomy Academy host Amie-Leigh Reece. Register at www.ostomy.org/ostomy-academy/ for more details and reminders or watch here live 3/12/24 at (8PM ET, 7PM CT, 6PMT, 5PM PT). A recording will be available after the event.

Such a wonderful video! So happy that I found this!! It supports the information from my surgeon. It certainly answers a lot of questions and fears. I was well over radiation 18 yrs ago due to anal cancer. Had a illeostomy to save my life. Over the years I developed terrible radiation disease. My surgeon even contacted an oncologist to make certain I did not have cancer again. The oncologist said I was cancer free but terribly over radiated!

I had a permanent loop colostomy last April. At age 81 to me my hernia looked as if it formed right away. Thankfully, it’s working! My surgeon said he doesn’t want to do anything as long as it’s working. I agree! I am looking into a hernia belt for support if my surgeon agrees.
