185,000 subscribers and growing! Congrats to you both! 🎉 Your great content is appreciated very much.
I'm sure the most difficult part of filming this was narrowing down your selections. So many beauties. Great vid.
Thank you for clarifying the Abelia pruning technique! I’m going to need a LOT more pruning videos in February- Zone 8 eastern NC.
Love that you put the zones under the name of the shrubs!!! Thank you!!!
If you light nightlight for the winter gold you should get a jantar. Its beautiful and a narrow upright that would fit in a tight space .
I agree totally. It's a great looking variety. The summer can be a little tough on them here
Just looked up “Jantar” - it looks fabulous - will keep an eye out for that one, thanks for the tip!!
Another fantastic "Must haves" garden list to start my day.
Hi Jim. Great content as usual. I’m surprised you don’t have any evergreen Nandina’s. They are also very showy this time of year.
Hey Jim, thanks for these great ideas! I have one I want to mention. It's an Arrow Point Holly, Ilex x 'RUTHO14'. I believe it's from Monrovia Plants collection. There was one sitting alone at Lowe's on clearance 3 years ago, and I needed something for the corner of a shed. I picked this up, and it has been absolutely FANTASTIC! I'm in 7b eastern Randolph county NC. It has grown so fast, is wonderfully hardy, soft to the touch, deep green, perfectly upright and pyramidal, has come through the last few deep-freezes with absolutely no damage whatsoever. I love this thing. It's next to impossible to find them anywhere. I would pick up 4 more if I could find them.
Loved seeing all the evergreens 🌲
It was an interesting botanical journey... I loved it! Nice to meet you, my garden brother! Have a good day!
hey thanks for commenting, helped me find your channel. I need more OutdoorPlantTube.
Love Night Light! Planted it last spring in full sun & it’s been great. Beautiful shrub. All the October Magic Camellias are great too.. thanks for recommending! Added Pink Perplexion to my garden in November!
The night light was my favorite in this video!! It’s so beautiful!
Great list - and thanks for reminding us about tactile plants. Having one near entrances and seating areas is a must for me.
My Christmas carol camellia is going nuts. Awesome plant on the corner of my foundation.
Great collection of winter plants! I think your favorite in this video is mine as well! 👍
Thanks Jim
We had a lot more winter damage in Little Rock (8a). I must get that chamaecyperis!
Morning, love you videos. Question, did you cut back your tractor plant for the winter or will you cut it back in spring?
This video helped me think selectively about plants for my new garden in South Carolina. It’s hard to pick just a few when I want almost all of them.
Thanks Jim. ❄️💚🙃
Awesome video!👍
Wish so much I could grow a Mahonia…my dad loved them when we lived in Maryland many years ago, but now I’m in New Hampshire!
After you prune abellia back , can you root those cuttings or not . Just wondering.
Wish This information has been released before the ground got cold
Suggestion - leave the name of the plant longer on the screen. I like to make notes of them, and the name vanishes before I can write it down. Love this top ten as I am looking for more evergreens to plant.
I usually pause the video to write it down.
Right, either pause or take screenshot of course!
Oh my goodness that Night Light is amazing!! Sadly I think the deer here in Moore County will feast on it!
Hey Jim!! Love your videos!! Can you tell me which one is more deer resistant? I have 2 acres and it's a never ending with deer friends😂😂😂😂🦌
The night light has been my favorite plant we're using for our landscape designs I'm trying to find more right now Lathams is sold out! ☹️
Hi Jim. I have a question on the Indian Hawthorne that got pretty badly damaged with the front for the past two years. Do you think I need to remove it? Same for my Gardenia.
Did you get hit with the Polar Vortex in December? My plants look terrible and we are the same zone. I live in Arkansas.
When does the zone map change. I think our zone should be 6. My plants that are zone 7 are fried. Not sure if they survived.
Beautiful evergreens. I live in SE Connecticut. What can you recommend that can withstand my hot summers and cold winters? I don’t know my zone. Thanks!
Se Connecticut is zone 6b.
Hey Jim, My Golden Oakland Hollys lost their leaves after our crazy cold snap. Are they dead or did they just have a hissy fit and drop their leaves?
My źone 7 working cleaning my garden
🙋
I tried three, yes three diamond spire gardenia and none of them survived on the ground in Dallas zone 8a. 2 gets full sun almost all day and the other 10-2pm summer sun. Makes me question their zone 7-10 claim. Was also asking my local nursery about getting dragon prince cryptomeria and was told it cannot handle zone 8a.
I don't think that most Asian temperate plants will like the Dallas heat or wind.
I tried the diamond spire in southeast Alabama zone 8b both in containers (with some shade) and in the ground (in mostly sun) and I could not get them to survive 😭
I am in TN zone 7. Due to the freeze I am very worried about some of my zone 7 plants such as Camelia. Do you recommend planting things hardy to zone 6 or do you still feel confident about me continuing to plant zone 7 plants.
Exactly my situation and question too
That is my plan going forward but I am not going to stop planting things I really want to try. I am zone 7 East TN Knoxville area
8:20 balls just dropped
zone 5b 😞
