Traditional Jewish bread baked by la raza, love it! He was soooo nervous until he dropped the bowl and the voice said, “it’s ok!”. Then he was rocking, cracking little jokes but not too often. I like this guy, seems like a cool cat!
2:16 Agreed... Thick-cut, day-old (or at most, 2-day old) Challah bread (kept in a closed paper bag) has the best texture for making French toast, or any type of bread pudding.
I really liked this video. Challah is a beautiful, delicious bread. The gentleman seems very down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and invested in his work; which he seems to enjoy very much. Also, I love that he wasn't wasteful and gives little tips on how not to be in the process.
I enjoyed watching a pro make challah. I've been working on making challah the last few weeks, so naturally I clicked for the recipe. The written recipe is frustratingly very different from what Darwin did in the video. 🤔

Ohhh so great now this video make me hungrey kek! The good crunchy taste and especially smell of fresh bread is just the best makes me feel alive. Only delta paroel music can do the same to me. Sometime I combine the both of them, make me feel alive!
I just went to their website, and although I can't find any certification, they seem to be a dairy-only bakery. They have lox, but no meat whatsoever. I was 100% expecting to see a challah & bacon sandwich, but I'm very pleasantly surprised. Vice didn't fuck up this time.
@@gab.lab.martins Breads Bakery is owned by a I believe practicing Jew (he was on munchies to do a Babka video a bit a go). Makes sense they're dairy only and most likely kosher certified.

The recipe provided is not exact replication of the video. Now I wonder if the ingredients are given in correct amounts. One of the discrepancies is that he said that the flour is the combination of all purpose flour and bred flour. However the recipe does not reflect that. That makes me think that the viewers will not be able to replicate the results.
Hi! I would describe the dough as elastic and smooth. It shouldn’t be wet but avoid adding too much flour. If it’s really sticky try kneading it more before adding flour. some stick is ok. You only have to let it rise once before braiding but it’s a good idea to let it rise for another 30 min after braiding. Good luck on your challah journey! :)
So glad that he tries to pronounce it correctly!!! If you say "holla", I will find you and put you down. If you're gonna eat our food, at least pronounce the name correctly.
Challah is eaten every shabat. It's part of the ritual dinner, every week. I think you might be confusing it with the round challah, which is only made during rosh hashanah to symbolise the beginning of a new cycle. Same recipe, different shape. Long challah is everyday bread.
@@kobyweiner7816 It's because, for the longest time, I bought challah on the assumption that it was vegan when, in fact, it probably wasn't... Next time, I'll just ask! Toda, Koby!
A great baker and recipe but someone needs to smack the cinematographer or camera person upside the head. When showing intricate details on how to braid the picture keeps changing. We don't need to look at Darwin's face when we are trying to learn the different types of braids. This film school 101.
It originates from ancient Judaism when it was baked in the first and second Jewish temple thousands of years ago. The tradition is upheld because Jews eat it on Shabbat and the biblical commandment to take a dough offering for the priests.
Pay mind to his accent - Spanish speakers silence “c” in a “ch” word. So it sounds like “Hallah” instead of “Challah” - kh-allah. The “Kh” took me awhile to practice as in the Arabic language the use of “Kh” is common too and the emphasis of the KH like “Khalaas” (enough) took my breath for awhile.

The only difference, Hefezopf is sweet bread. While Challah bread isn't.
