I have just taken way to many hard hits, When I was about 7 or 8 years old I hit a brick wall on my bike. Now at age 58 the right side of my face is caved in it really wasn't that noticeable when I was younger. Then I put a 1969 dodge charger 24 rows into a corn field, I broke 8 ribs my sternum and caved in the top of my head from hitting the windshield. on top of taking many other hits to my head all I can say is I'm still alive... I have not found a doctor that has helped me and I have just learned to live with my symptoms. Other then the times the pain gets so bad my wife has to take me to E.R. This is my life and I know that I'm not the lone ranger when it comes to living with pain. Thanks for your time Jeffrey, I find videos like this to be good info for folks looking for help....

Wish all doctors where this smart. I have stenosis in my neck since 2016. Have had all the pain he mentioned and all the doctors except the one I recently went to said nothing is wrong. The recent doctor saw my issues did disc replacment in c6 and c7. That took away my trap pain in my shoulders. Still have issues from issues with c3 and c4 but my pain is more manageable now. All the pills, therapy and anything else I tried did nothing.

Been having these symptoms in my arms for about two months gets worse at full extension hands go crazy numb tingling and throbbing. Biceps cold hands cold. Finally saw a doctor who is trying to help me neurologist and PCP are no help thinks I’m looney or googling too much. Hopefully get a MRI soon all from a work injury that was concentrated on my lower back and never thought my neck was part of it from lifting with arm fully extended downward.

Suffered from mild cevical stenosis for decades, before it cost me my job , control of my fingers in right hand and i could not hold my head up without extreme pain in the shoulder . An operation on C6 C5 C4 alleviated the condition . Im left with numbness in right hand and the entire upper right side of my body has shrunk slightly when compared to the left . If any one suffers from this condition the sooner you get it sorted the better

I no longer have a cervical curve. The only symptom I don't have that you described is the wasting. I was told not to worry about the arthritis & cracking my neck does all on its own. They didn't want to do an MRI until I went through 12wks of PT. I refused for someone to mess with my neck without an MRI.
I have all these symptoms and have two different doctors with two different opinions. My MRI has three ruptures and says I have serious spinal cord flattening. I’m 64 and have had 10 surgeries on my lumbar spine, fused from my sacrum to L-1. I am loosing fine motor function in my hands. Thank you for this information because you have helped me make my Final decision to solve my situation.

Im a 33yr old, 6' male, 210lbs and have been having issues for around 6 years. Nothing obvious caused it, grew up sportsy and active so did get gurt allot as a kid. It started with headaches and ocular migrains with auras and bad neck and back pain. Ignored it until 2021, almost passed out while driving. EMS arrived and said my blood pressure was 180 over something. Diagnosed me with "Idiopathic intracranial hypertension " and put me on blood pressure meds, but didn't help. Blurry doubled vision, sensitivity to light, constant bady pain, brain fog, balance issues, all the things in this video and more... Had some testing and they found blockage in transverse/ Sigmund sinus. Had stent placed 4 moths ago. Pain and weakness is getting worse in complete left side of body, along with decreased daily mental awearness. Beginning to also have worse and worse memory loss... But i have 2 mri's scheduled soon (Thorasic & Cervical spine) so hopefully they find something.. im tired lol

Started getting dizzy spells for no reason. Next was the hands stiff and sore, loss of grip strength, dropping things, also a lot of nausea, fatigue and weakness. Getting fused next week C2-C7 and hoping for some relief.
I have nerve damage in my neck and lower lumbar from a car crash, and I have fibromyalgia. No one told me what to expect. My speech, mobility, and motor functions are becoming way worse. I am on the verge of tears. This is the worst pain. I take a Baclophen in the morning to help my muscles and Nabilon3 before bed. I am on a bunch of meds and go for a nerve blocker shot x 30 every Thursday. I am fighting. I am an artist, and if I must, I will do it with my toe. 😢

@DrJeffreyCantor thank you for reaching out. You are so kind to offer support. I am requesting a new CT on my spine up to the neck. First, we are getting me back on all of my shots. She gave me some comforting options. I hurt 24/7 ! I had to spend 5 nights in a hotel to stay 9ff my feet a while. Thanks again.
I had to have 3 levels of CSpine fused due to stenosis from paoriatric arthritis. Choose your neuroosurgeon carefully! Make sure they do 100s of fusions annually. Teaching hospitals are great, I went to UCSF.
@@magicmax6623 Not ortho but NeuroSurgery. His name is Dr Vitrucci, but he has retired. He was an Associate Professor, but you know it's the fellows and residents that care for you post-op. I saw Dr Vitrucci in the OR only during my stay. I know patients can self refer. Just get the # for UCSF Neuro Surgery and tell them you would like to self refer, as long as you have current affected spinal CT Scan and MRI they will look at your films and decide if they can treat you, and they make an appt. They have several satellite offices throughout the Bay Area Good luck!
@@joeyp12788 first things first. Most great medical centers (Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, UCSF) will allow patients to self refer. I went to UCSF, which is about 100 miles away from home, but is a large well respected teaching hospital. That way you get the best of the best. My Senior Neurosurgeon was an Associate Professor, and then you get all the motivated medical students, residents and fellows. Alot of MDs who are passionate about their work, and bc it's a teaching hospital it's on the cutting edge, the newest technology and practices. I worked in healthcare locally for 20+ years and there isn't a decent Neurosurgeon in this town. My Rheumatologist referred me blindy to UCSF. My Cspine fusion was first then about a year later had my L5-S1 fused too. If you can find it, some years ago US World US News & Reports, rated hospitals. For Neurosurgeons they suggested seeing programs or MDs that perform 300 surgeries yearly. Good luck to you. Both of my sugeries were successful and I was pain-free from the moment I woke up.

I was rear ended a few years ago. I was waiting to turn off the highway into my drive and a car driving 60mph hit me. The girl did not brake, full force impact. Today I have sever pain and pressure in my neck as well as my lumbar. Pressure becomes too intense that I can't sit, stand, or lay down. Nothing works. Neck pressure makes my vision blurry. I am searching professionals to help me. It will be a long process and hopefully I will feel better than I do. Thank you and God Bless

Your videos are the very best! Although you do mention laminectomies' being done without fusion, I can't seem to find any videos about outcomes or really anything about them. All videos are about fusion. On March 8th 2023 I had a Posterior Cervical Laminectomy of C3 to C7 but no Fusion. I can't find any videos or explanations of this being done without fusion. You would do well to make one. More people than you think would watch them.
I'm so sorry ): I know exatly what you're feeling. I had spince surgery for this issue in 2022 and the pain has come back. I'm really terrified right now too. I hope you're okay

I am a 31yo female. Was in the best health of my life. Three months ago, I started having vertigo and balance problems after being on a boat. It took me until last week to get answers in a cervical spine MRI. Results indicated I have a congenital narrowing of central spinal canal (9.9mm). I also have disc protrusions and annular tears from c3-4 to c6-7, worse (mild) at c4-5, where my spinal canal is narrowest. There is contact with c7 nerve root, but the spinal chord looks normal. I also have another disc protrusion and tear in t2-3. I have cervical lordosis reversal. Spondylosis without myelopathy or radiculopathy. I have my apt with a spinal surgeon and specialist at johns hopkins tomorrow. I figure he will want to cut because surgeons usually do. From this information and my gentic condition, do people in my case and otherwise great health usually get the surgery im your experience? This is all so new to me, I am trying to get several opinions. I don't have any pictures yet of my lower back, but it often hurts.

I suffer from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. I have 3 disc herniations in the neck C4-c6. Has terrible nerve pain in the arms and still down to the feet. Had to wait 11 months to get c5 operated on with a new disc and rigid operation. I'm still in pain unfortunately. loss of sensation also in arms but mostly left side. I also have loss of sensation halfway across my face. I suffer unbelievably every day. I also have spondylosis and spondylitis L5-s1 and also sciatica lumbago. Disc herniation L4-L5. then I have modic type 2. I have loss of sensation on my legs and in the big toe they dare or refuse to operate on me despite all the pain. I sleep with a diaper every night. Must urinate on routine because I have genital burns in the groin and abdomen. 3 weeks ago I got a back shot again. The doctor does not want to do a new MRI on me and sent me to the physiotherapist again. Should I be worried about my health? I started to get sick at the age of 19 and am 41 years old today They op mig 3 times for they carpal tunnel syndrome 😭 But is was my neck that was the problem (I often stumble and lose my balance as well. when I go up the stairs, my legs do not want to keep up many times)
Only a heart attack is a worse pain. Trust me, I have had a heart attack and I am suffering from spinal stenosis and other arthritic conditions of my spine.
They get better on some days if you really rested day before. Can be worse if cold weather....activity....or trying to lift..or bad night sleep. I can't even lift gallon of milk. Or open a jar. Activity makes it worse. But you have to stay active or joints " lock up" muscles too.
I have this. And . Long term neck pain hand numbness. Dropping things a lot and falling quite a bit. I also have that pinky ring finger tingling numb. I can’t look up for long periods of time with out sharp pains thru my upper back to neck. I have all those same issues you have mentioned. It’s even really rough to drive too. I’m only 45. I see a neuro surgeon this month.

What are the Long term rates of myelopathy recurring or continuing post surgery? I would assume depends on the surgery but multiple levels of cord compression And foraminal stenosis in cervical sign with mid-stage symptoms?
It's been about 10 years for me. Cervical surgery 2013, Bulging disc laminectomy in 2015. Recent diagnosis of severe compression of C2,3 TBD surgery. I have a neurostimulator installed. It helps with pain by emitting massage, instead of allowing pain reception.
Have had an ADCF then a posterior decompression ten years later, now as my symptoms become worse, mu PCP insists an EMG says I have severe carpal tunnel syndrome, always numb on pinky side of my hands, is there anything more I can do or is this as good as I can expect

Entrapment of the posterior interosseous nerve may be mistaken for the motor component of the C7 radiculopathy causing weakness of triceps, wrist flexors and finger extensors.it was so dam painful but luckily my chiropractor is fully licensed neurologist who’s had 5 years good experience and he’s the best chiropractor doctor in my town I had this pain c7 for weeks horrible pain it was I had a appointment booked today at my local chiropractic clinic the adjustments instant relief got no pain what so ever I’m back to full health he even treats bulging discs too

To save you the trouble of having to give the same answer repetitively, therefore I won’t list a full panel of my symptoms & just as a CYA, I am NOT asking for medical advice, or a diagnosis, but rather a broad general textbook explanation for how clinicians would typically treat C5-C6, C6-C7 moderate right lateral canal narrowing and cord deformity with moderate right foraminal narrowing, in the beginning stages when the discs become painful and limb & finger pain becomes apparent? Do patients in their early 40’s typically have degenerative issues of this nature?
I was diagnosed with Cervical Stenosis a week ago. I also have most of the symptoms Dr. Cantor talked about. I'm considering having surgery sometime in December.
What avenues have you looked at aside from surgery?? What’s surgery are you thinking of having?? I think this doctor has some alternative minimally invasive solutions to this issue.
get the surgery, if you wait too long your arms will atrophy or one at a a time, and youll never be able to recover them again, one of my arms is atrophied and other is fine, i think im absolutely FCKED but not sure, waited 4 years to get surgery from the point of injury, dont know what the hell i was thinking,. get it done dude you look big if you stop lifting cause of this youll prob wanna commit suicide or something

What if I have all the horrible symptoms of cervical myelopathy (neck pain, numb hand, weak limbs, bicep pain, heart palpitations, hot flashes or red face etc) My mri and xrays show bone spurs; arthritis; and minimal disc bulg at c5-c6 and c6-c7; BUT the experts looking at them say that the pics don't explain my symptoms.....how much narrowing of the spinal canal is necessary to justify symptoms? I've heard there is no set rule? Apparently some have obvious stenosis and no symptoms....I, on the other hand, show little narrowing but awful symptoms....is that common?

Yes Paige White......mine started in 75 auto accident. Neck injury. But chiropractor and pain shots in neck. Then 10 years later a small hard lump. That Drs said fatty lump...nothing to worry about. Now it's huge and cervical stenosis. And trauma to neck or spine can develop calcium build up and pinching of vertebrae which spinal cord is indide.

Now my right hand doesn't go up my shoulder level and woun flex straight from elbow nor my wrist move sideways hardly at all. Yes I have the same issue my blood pressure is always messed with and I always feel some type of weird unbalanced thing as if I was walking on pillows. My ears are always crunching too
Dizziness and vomiting were also few symptoms my mom is facing. She is being very uncomfortable and it happened out of no where. Local doc did mention something being convex/concave near the next. I am hell scared. Is it something fatal? I never saw my mom so miserable and that too her condition changed in very short period of time.

I’m in a small town in WA where there are no back specialists. I have moderate and severe areas bilaterally, in 3 different places on my neck. Whereas PT has always worked for me in the past, I feel as though I’m worsening now, and I have two weeks of PT left. The double steroid injection caused a muscle injury, and I now have pain in a area I didn’t before. Arms/fingers/ neck have massive pain. Are you seeing patients out of state?

I have a congenitally narrow spinal canal with mild to moderate spondylosis throughout my neck and have experienced symptoms of I guess both of those conditions for years already and am only 30.
I have a neck spasm which I care not to trigger but it is triggered when I bend my head towards while lying on my back and if I yawn or have a big air inhale My neck locks up for 1 hour while giving me extra pain I can't swallow can't move my chin and all my teeth are alarming me burning this burn feel is they are glaring teeth but all of my teeth at the same time. After a muscle relieving serum or waiting for 1-2 hours it ends but until that time it hurts like hell what could be my problem? Because in my country doctors couldn't tell what it is exactly. So if you please reply and guide me a bit I would really appreciate it.

@ Thank you. I haven't been properly diagnosed yet since the situation only happens in rare occasions when I trigger it by accident thankfully I don't trigger it much so the doctors never delved too deep about this. Said it could be lack of magnesiums etc. But it is very painful when it happens I just can't make them relate with this situation since It is a rare one. Nobody gets their neck spasms just because they yawned while lying down. Therefore I don't think they can relate how this feels. Not common at all. So I might have some overall checkups or something I guess and after that if I have anything to show it is nice to have a place to ask.

Is it possible for cervical stenosis on the left side of my spine to cause severe pain on the right side? I've had severe pain on the right side of my neck in the occipital area before I recieved a diagnosis of cervical stenosis.
Yes EvanP...... Cervical stenosis is neck area. Below that is spinal stenosis. Either way you only have one spinal cord ...when pinched in two or even slightly pinched it will cause loss of function and symptomatic pain fro. That point downward gradually getting worse. On both sides but more so on the side where pinching begins.
@@nancywood9531 I had severe neck pain above the level where my cervical stenosis is, for years prior to even getting a diagnosis. I got diagnosed in 2021 but my pain goes back to 2015. The pain I had was mostly around the right occipital, but it had sharp shooting pain down into my shoulder, and across to the left occipital as well as shooting pains into my jaw/behind my eyes. I have had multiple x-rays, and MRI's regarding the pain and neurologists didn't have any answers for me. At least now that i have a diagnosis I'm being taken more seriously by doctors.

I have never heard such a detailed description of my problem. Thank you Jeff, you are the best and highly rated spine doctor.

Hi Rudy!!
I am 35 and I have stenosis from c3-c7. How did you manage it for this long? We’re you doing physical therapy all this while?
Wish all doctors where this smart. I have stenosis in my neck since 2016. Have had all the pain he mentioned and all the doctors except the one I recently went to said nothing is wrong. The recent doctor saw my issues did disc replacment in c6 and c7. That took away my trap pain in my shoulders. Still have issues from issues with c3 and c4 but my pain is more manageable now. All the pills, therapy and anything else I tried did nothing.
Awesome video. Happened tome. Had surgery. Worst think to go through.
After years of going to the doctors & being told so many different things finally told I have this

What is the result

His name is Dr Vitrucci, but he has retired. He was an Associate Professor, but you know it's the fellows and residents that care for you post-op. I saw Dr Vitrucci in the OR only during my stay. I know patients can self refer. Just get the # for UCSF Neuro Surgery and tell them you would like to self refer, as long as you have current affected spinal CT Scan and MRI they will look at your films and decide if they can treat you, and they make an appt. They have several satellite offices throughout the Bay Area Good luck!
Any pointers to look for on choosing a great neuro surgeon? Appreciate any feedback. Tha k you in advance
@@joeyp12788 first things first. Most great medical centers (Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, UCSF) will allow patients to self refer. I went to UCSF,
which is about 100 miles away from home, but is a large well respected teaching hospital. That way you get the best of the best. My Senior Neurosurgeon was an Associate Professor, and then you get all the motivated medical students, residents and fellows. Alot of MDs who are passionate about their work, and bc it's a teaching hospital it's on the cutting edge, the newest technology and practices. I
worked in healthcare locally for 20+ years and there isn't a decent Neurosurgeon in this town.

Surgically Manageable? Or Ignoring It and labelling the Complications?
Your videos are the very best! Although you do mention laminectomies' being done without fusion, I can't seem to find any videos about outcomes or really anything about them.

What are the Long term rates of myelopathy recurring or continuing post surgery? I would assume depends on the surgery but multiple levels of cord compression
And foraminal stenosis in cervical sign with mid-stage symptoms?
I would like to know also!
I’m a short distance from getting surgery on my neck and lumbar.

Are the images sent back if mailed out to your clinic??
To save you the trouble of having to give the same answer repetitively, therefore I won’t list a full panel of my symptoms & just as a CYA, I am NOT asking for medical advice, or a diagnosis, but rather a broad general textbook explanation for how clinicians would typically treat C5-C6, C6-C7 moderate right lateral canal narrowing and cord deformity with moderate right foraminal narrowing, in the beginning stages when the discs become painful and limb & finger pain becomes apparent? Do patients in their early 40’s typically have degenerative issues of this nature?
I've had degenerative discs since at least my early 20's.

Answer.
For the past three months, I've had neck pain radiating down both of my arms into my wrists and fingers. It all started after I was dealing with heavy boxes full of Christmas decorations and antiques. I also get occasional chest and shoulder pains. X-ray showed mild disc narrowing in c4-c5 and c4-c6. I think I may have permanently wrecked my spine.

@DrJeffreyCantor I deeply appreciate it. Still awaiting my blood work results. Already had two X-rays, chiropractor visits, and a course of standard treatment protocols that didn't help.
Can this be caused by a hard fall?
Yes Paige White......mine started in 75 auto accident. Neck injury. But chiropractor and pain shots in neck. Then 10 years later a small hard lump. That Drs said fatty lump...nothing to worry about. Now it's huge and cervical stenosis.
And trauma to neck or spine can develop calcium build up and pinching of vertebrae which spinal cord is indide.
I had big fall about 4.5 meters early 2000's 10 years later started problems and getting worse. Now my right hand doesn't go up my shoulder level and woun flex straight from elbow nor my wrist move sideways hardly at all. Mild cervical stenosis, foramina compression and thoratic outlet syndrome. Constant pain for decades.

Whereas PT has always worked for me in the past, I feel as though I’m worsening now, and I have two weeks of PT left.

This is what I am experiencing right now.
