I'm digging them a lot. Grew up with cathedral, winter, trouble, sleep, solitude aeturnus and acid bath, then got into phish and the disco biscuits. Thru the disco biscuits, I got into the psytrance scene. Now I'm back listening doom again and Reverend Bizarre is my go to band, but Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard is my latest addiction
I loved this band for many years before I had my daughter. One day I put this video on for her when she was a few months old. It she got super locked into the TV and then immediately fell asleep. Months and months later, when I have a hard time getting her to sleep, I throw this on and she's out. Those baby melodies with the sheep in the videos don't do shit but this actually works every time. 🤣
heard bongripper once. was doing folk music. i got high as fuck and listend to their album hail satan on repeat literally all day. i was perplexed. i mean i love stoner and doom metal. but after that day i was decided that now i need to figure out how to make epic doom like that. took me a whole year of upgrading my recording gear and im not even close but i am now making doom metal because of bongripper lol.
Ah the same for me with Dave Mustaine & MegaDave... heuuu Megadeth* : The Best of the Best ... no contestation dude... listening to Rust In Peace around 22h/24h sometimes more...
wow, man. if that's true, I'd love to hear that folkish thing these dudes played once. actually that music they ended up now can be considered as "classical" music of the 2010s.
Went to high school with Ron (bass) and Nick (guitar)...real cool guys and have always been talented musicians. Ron was building his own bass back then and I'm sure he's built many more. Remember seeing them play back around '00 and '01 in their previous bands and still have a demo cd as well. I actually just came across it a couple months ago and it still plays. Really cool to see them make a name for themselves and still rocking out.
Bongripper is a diamond in the rough in the fact that they have carved themselves a niche into the genre of stoner doom, it's meditative, it's massive, it's the huge fuzzy repetitive riffs. And then they fall into these calming interludes, a gentle glide into some form of cosmic soup only to rip you back into the fold of amp worship. I'm happy to have found these guys when they released Great Barrier Reefer, and have been hooked ever since. A happy combination of sludgy, stoney riffs into this psychedelic journey on the interludes letting you glide out of your body into space. Edit: P.S, pause at 20:06 for one of the most powerful stage presence shots ever.
Just found Bongripper and holy shit! I can't stop listening to Terminal... that album is sick! Definitely on my list of bands I need to see live in my lifetime. Them, Bell Witch and Sunn O)))
hey, great stuff!! high quality video with superb audio sync. multi angle. sound is nothing to scoff at either. i could handle more drums. oh...and you have to watch the first song at double speed. still tight!
Tnx for sharing, great video, great band! I see the comments about mix and levels. This is the feed from the mixing desk as the voidmaniac said. So there is no separate mix for the video, you get live sound mixed for the venue. I guess the amps were super loud, so the stage volume was almost enough to fill the room and to sit in the mix for the venue properly. There is just a touch of the amps in the mix and that was probably enough for the venue I wasn`t there, I wish I was :) but I have live sound experience and this is just my guess.
Thank you. At this moment I only get stereo from the mix desk and my own 2 microphones. If you know a way to do it better with that setup please contact me, eager to learn. I want to do a multi-track recording in the future, but at to moment out of my reach.
VoidManiac Can you re eq the source, it sounds like you have 3 sources? One has the drum tracks louder then the other. Bring that down. Bring others up. Take high end (treble down in track with drum) down. Just immediate thoughts If possible
@@djsoda666 Thank you. I have 2 stereo tracks, stereo one; 2 Mic's recording the sound in the venue. Stereo 2 the mix from the FOH. The drum is a bit too loud in both, but I tried to take them down, but to much all over the spectrum. I know I need to do more tracks, something for the future.
Bongripper are an anomaly. There's so much stoner, doom and sludge out there, but there's is no band like Bongripper. Hand's down my favourite.
for sure, i love doom, sludge and stoner. what sets it apart for me is the no vocals, just killer riffs.

I don’t even really fuck with with much metal. I play claw hammer banjo. But Bongripper and Sleep, they’re just the best
Absolutely agreed. My favourite band. No lyrics, just face melting, ears filled with sweet molasses!

They don’t actually have smoke machines, it’s just the shear amount of marijuana being smoked in that room.

I'm fascinated by the idea that the guitar player is using a Darkglass AO 900-watt solid state bass amp as a guitar head! Very cool.
