I am currently working in mud, redoing some beds that have never drained properly. I am framing them up with timbers then digging out the good soil and setting it aside, then digging out nasty yellow clay that holds water like a bathtub. I am incorporating a drain system that uses the natural grade to drain out the excess water. It’s a lot of work but I know it will pay off.

Sounds like a lot of hard work that will make your growing season easier later on. I admire you getting out there in the mud and cold digging up clay! I hope it all goes well @@budmackes792

A garden journal/ calender was a game changer for me in 2023. I was surprised at how many times I've already looked back at it this 2024 season. Especially if you grow from seed.

Absolutely! It’s so helpful to know when you did what and you can remember if it worked well or not. Glad to know you use this practice!

I just ran across your channel. I am Zone 6 in Ohio but a couple of hours south of you along Interstate 70. My daughter just moved to Canton and so last year she did container garden but plans to do a raised bed this year and also some containers. My son and his family are in Dayton area and have 2 raised beds. I start seeds and give them tomatoes, peppers, onions and lettuces starts. I wish I had more space to do more but I did potatoes last year for the first time and will continue. I started onion seeds last week for the first time. I did onion sets in the past years and last season I did onion starts last year. In addition to the seeds I mentioned above I also grow cucumbers, zucchini and squash. I am building a fence this year since there is a ground hog that took out my plants when they were small. Once they got larger he left them alone.

Hi David! Thanks for sharing so much. You are so kind to share your starts with your kids. I hope to do the same in the future if my boys choose to garden!
Have your onions seeds sprouted yet?
