Thankfully two guys who were afraid of getting stuck inside Zanskar took their chances and reached Shinkula Top to reach Manali and I hopped on in that car to reach BRO post below the pass. See how we recovered the Gurkha from there. I was lucky otherwise had to walk down for hours to reach the BRO post.

Believe me, the journey that forces you to the extremes and when you face atrocities, makes your journey the most wonderful and memorable. It comes with risks, fear, dangers and survival instincts. But that makes your life livable. Otherwise, we are stuck here in our daily routines. Just make sure we take utmost care of ourselves, have proper planning, and equip ourselves with all the required gears, food, medicines, power source (electric as well as petrol/diesel based). We must push ourselves to the extremes but only when our safety is guaranteed. This video was much better than your other videos. Thanks for the wonderful content, and always take care of yourself.

BS6 diesel engines can't be left on for long time. DPF will be chocked & vehicle will be stationary. But the thing is Indian manufacturers should tune their engines to survive these conditions(like Toyota). Because in our country we're having -50 to +50 temp range. So vehicles should be prepared like that.

The vehicle named "Gurkha" is clearly an insult to the most revered and respected community by the same name - a community which shows the world how to survive in the coldest and harshest of places, and be an exemplary icon of bravery.
Shame on the vehicle manufacturer for naming its model by this name - a name which no one dare take lightly or use lightly.
Kudos to the blogger for having gone through this experience and recorded that to share with the rest of us.

You are a courageous man 🫡
There are anti freeze sachets available at BP petrol pumps(kashmir)which can be added to the diesel tank, it would have helped you to get the engine running. I use them when I go to Gulmarg(8500feet) for few days and it never let me down. The temperature at Gulmarg is -15 which is lower than what you experienced but still the anti free would have helped for sure.

I admire your courage for this risk. You really put your life in danger. Also we got to know that no Indian vehicle manufacture which boast "OFF ROADING" is still not able to make the vehicle for extreme off reading. Perhaps the reason behind this is that no person had test their vehicle to this limit.

For Gorkha after 10k kms I would recommend 0w-30 than 5w-30 synthetic oil. Even if it’s not the recommended grade. It will help you with cold start but won’t affect engine performance, since the operating viscosity that is recommended falls under 0w30 oil. It will help you in cold weather and when engine is hot it will act the same as recommended by manufacturer.

Engine oil being viscous enough to pump is the single most important thing to cold start a vehicle. The other most important factor is CCA rating of the battery, this aspect is most ignored in India. Use a battery with highest CCA rating you can fit your car and also have a backup.

Very informative video thanks Dinesh bhai. First time commenting on ur video. But a big fan from Uttarakhand. After watching this video I remembered the old times where in winters the mahindra jeep owners and truck drivers used to light fire under the engine bay just to de freeze diesel and warm vehicle.

You are right never stay in such condition as we are not accustomed in too cold. anti fritz solution is a must. keep petrol and flintstone to make fire old is gold.

    Learnings from your trip
    1. Always stay near a populous area.
    2. Carry Petrol, Matchsticks, Camphor, dried coir, wood, etc material.
    3. Put anti freeze in your diesel tank.
    4. Never trust a machine and carry your precautions.
    5. Last but not the least, carry clothing and oxygen cylinder.

Bro...what you were trying to pull off was dangerous.. especially on a pass. Due to winds, feels like temp is always lower than actual temp. Diesel engines do not work in minus temp if antifreeze isn't there. That is why cold countries use petrol cars more than diesel. While living abroad during winters upto -30°C petrol cars remain smooth and easy to start. Buy a petro SUV for extreme cold weather offroading

Actually petrol engine mai spark plug fuel ko ignite kr deti hai somehow but diesel engines mai fuel ignite krne ke liye kch nhi diya hota, it is purely on compression, that's why diesel engines ko cold weathers mai start rakhna hi padta hai
