I really wonder how Okada and Tanahashi felt simply HEARING the crowd tonight going insane for them. in Japan, due to covid, fans are unable to cheer, so this had to be an amazing night for the two of them.

Not to mention Japanese wrestling crowds are generally MUCH quieter than Western crowds. I'm sure it was quite the feeling, and Sunday will be even louder

Omega won't be there. His return from injury is still a while off according to a number of different sources. It's rumored that he could be out until All-Out or Revolution.

@@bupboi6412 he is going through surgeries and rehab right now in order to hopefully be back in the fall. It is extremely unlikely that he will show up at the ppv. At most he will be working backstage like he has been recently.

I think that he may require multiple surgeries and a decent amount of rehab and recuperation to be at 100%. It is highly doubtful he will be at the ppv beyond being a backstage producer. Don't get your hopes up.

The way njpw has built him which is backed by his once in a generation talent is just awesome.
I knew that forbidden door wouldn't fulfill the expectation without okada and here he is.
Even though he isn't popular in us, he is as popular and as big a star power as any former draws of the industry.
Okada's presence surely brings that big match feel and with the surprise of bryan Danielson and this i am pumped up for forbidden door and wait we still have blood and guts too.

@@Thraeryn AEW drew 750k in viewership last week. They need to realize that majority of us Americans have no ideas who these Japanese guys nor care much about them. AEW has this idea that people automatically know whoever they bring out. Not all of us watch indy wrestling. I didn't know what ROH was until a couple months ago. The company should focus on their youngers guys and push those with Charisma and mic skills like Ethan Page for example. Create vignettes, better episodic TVs, and have some of their wrestlers be better trained. Many of these guys do too many obvious leg slaps, dives, and botches. Their moves look fake and choreograph. They should call matches in the ring more, limit their false finishes, and sell better.

JR calling Okada the greatest champion of Modern times is 100% correct IMO. He's had more excellent matches as champion than anyone else. Also elevates anyone in the ring with him. Great to finally see him in AEW.
Okadas reign from i think 2016 to dominion 2018 has to be the greatest title reign in the history of all of wrestling. Needs to be in the wrestling Olymp.

Since day one of AEW I’ve wanted Okada in it. Todays that day. Even if it’s just a one off. Forbidden Door will be an amazing PPV and hopefully we will see Kenny vs Okada one more time.

bro try New Japan World and check out his masterpieces against Kenny Omega. Or his bouts against Jay White are also amazing since they tell a story in the ring everytime. He truly is one if not the greatest of this generation
Strong style
3 matches you need to see. Okada vs Omega from Wrestle Kingdom 11. Okada vs Tanahashi from Wrestle Kingdom 10. Okada vs Shibata from Sakura Genesis 2017. And those are just three different matches with three opponents with very different styles. The thing with Okada is I've never seen anyone so good at making his style gel perfectly with the one of his opponent, no matter what that is. Okada can pull a 5 stars match out of ANYONE. The thing that bothers me is those who are going to watch him for the first time in a 4-Way Match. Okada is wasted there. He's the master of the 1 vs 1.

For anyone who doesn't know Okada, I'm sure you've at least heard about the now-legendary series of matches Kenny Omega wrestled in 2017-2018. The ones that broke the scale and got 6 and 7 star ratings? The matches that Mick Foley and Stone Cold Steve Austin raved about? That was against this guy.
If you care about the in-ring aspect of pro wrestling at all, this guy is arguably THE best wrestler in the world. He's the one guy, even more so than Kenny, who every wrestler from every company dreams of stepping in the ring and testing themselves against.

There is a huge difference though between the two matches you compared. Flair and Steamboat were both known back then by a larger number of American wrestling audience than Okada and Omega today. AEW isn't the top dog of wrestling, not even close. Nobody really knows who these guys are, just the diehard fans do.

Also, it was awesome to see The Last Real Man Silas Young make his debut in AEW as well. I had hoped he'd eventually show up. Loved his work in ROH.

We need more Silas Young, damn it! How is he not being used for AEW's Dark regularly AT LEAST until ROH returns. Silas can easily be a big player for the reborn ROH. He's one of the only ones in ROH that can actually cut a damn promo AND perform.
I was at the show last night...and MAN if you thought that was a loud pop it does NOT do it justice. I basically jumped out of my damn seat and was screaming my lungs out... I am SO glad they saved Okada for last night.

Kinda saddens me how underrated as A STORY the Okada vs Omega feud is, other than the matches themselves, especially in the overall resurgence of NJPW "lore" so to say, just because NJPW doesn't go overboard in explaining any tiny detail and let the japanese crowds pick up on things themselves.
