The song is based on a common Hmong folklore that dates back during the Vietnam War. The man and woman lived very far from each other and it took half a day or longer to reach each other by walking only. The Man made a promise to his girlfriend that the next time they meet he'll marry her and ask her to wait for him. When the man got home he was sent to war and the woman didn't know that he was sent to war. Thus she waited for years to come until she was convinced he had lied to her. She then fell ill from emotional sickness and passed away. Turned into a ghost still waiting for him and haunting the people in her village until everyone left. When the man got released from war he went back to see her. Everything seemed normal at first, but then later found out that she was a ghost and ran for his life. Basically, this song is written from the ghost's point of view of her sadness, dedication, and loyalty to him, thus unlucky that they couldn't be together. In my opinion it's a strange song, because the story in detail is scary af 😂. There are even movies about it

Now that I have really looked into it, I honestly believe that Hmong culture is one of the most interesting cultures out there.
