This really helped me out man, I had had no idea how to do it myself but after watching you do it I was like "Ok so all I have to do is the exact opposite of what he just did" And it worked!
FINALLY !! Thank you man it's really very cool, what would be great is to show us how you play during your lives and give us some tips for making content ;)
Yoooooo THIS is the software I've been looking for for years but didn't know how to find it. I've been looking to learn live visuals for a while so thank you so much for putting out these tutorials! I'm excited to finally learn this stuff 🙏
Hi thanks for this beginner video. I would love to see a process of you where you show how you going to do things on stage. Like communicate with the stage designers etc.
Not only learned but had a good laugh watching this 🤣 *types Sean Bowes in Arial* "Dope logo dude!" "It's not going anywhere, it's just here, you're gonna have the whole crowd fucking hovering over your shoulder?"
very nice Sean, I wonder if there is a auto fade in and fade out between clips and column switching without have to manually move the fade slider. Thanks
There is a Transition Time control (View>Layer Transition Controls) that you can set so the clips fade to the next one over that amount of time. to go black you could use that and go to a blank or black clip before going to the next one. If you have the latest version you might also be able to use the Crossfader Phase feature to achieve this as well. Check out the Resolume youtube channel, its their latest video currently. Crossfader Phase tutorial. It lets you map effects to the crossfader position, so you could follow their tutorial with a solid color effect set to black so that it goes to black at the midpoint of the crossfader.
Great. This is something that people do very differently, so its hard to teach. But my advice is to think about what you will need control over in your specific show and make a simple control for it. Do you need effects? What kind of effects? Are those effects best activated quickly with a button, or smoothly with a knob or slider? Do you need control over colors? Do you need specific clips at your fingertips? Or can you use the mouse for that? Remember that the mouse and keyboard are very useful tools even if you use a midi controller, so only use the midi controller for things that it is good at - like smooth control across a range of values with sliders and knobs, or rhythmic activation with buttons. Think, plan, and execute. and dont be afraid to revise after testing it out. Good luck!
Hi, good clear explanation, however, Iam a solo guitarist/singer playing to drums and Bass on ipad, can I have my visuals auto play, perhaps linked so that when the track starts the visual will start too? I will be using a good spec Mac book pro,
Yes if you are using a software that allows you to send out osc, midi, or timecode signals - thats what will allow you to communicate between your audio software and resolume and tell it what track is playing and what visual should play to go with it. There are a few different ways of doing this, but searching those things should get you pointed in the right direction! Feel free to hit me up on instagram or via email if you want to get more specific about it.
You have a few options. My preference is to use groups, put the effects on the group instead of the composition, and keep the logo on a layer outside the group. Or you can use effects on layers and dont put them on that logo layer. Another option, is to slice route the logo layer, which bypasses ALL composition effects and sends a layer directly to a specific slice in advanced output. This is the most extreme and least flexible option. Check out my Learn Groups video for some info on how groups work. The Showfile Guide video also has some groups tips I think.
@@SeanBowes thanks Sean! I’ll watch your vids and try to figure this out. I’m trying to clean up my workflow on resolume to get things a little more user-friendly.
Hi Sean! First, I love your content! Secondly, I am at a crossroads and would love some info from you. I timecode lasers and LEDs to my DJ set. I want to incorporate video soon too but. The program I use for the LEDs is actually Xlights lol. It gives me a great amount of control over the LED strips which is what I really want. Would the be possible if I got resolume? Could I have a decent amount of control and be able to make LEDs look cool in this software? Also, do you have a video on what version of resolume I should get?
You can map LED strips with Resolume. Check out the DMX Output and Getting Started with LED Strip pages on the Resolume Support Page resolume.com/support/en/getting-started-with-led-strips resolume.com/support/en/dmx
I am referring to branded graphics that frame the screen and have a window cutout for the rest of the VJ content to play through. Some concerts use these to tie in the screens to the scenic elements of the stage design or to extend the branding of the stage. I often want to treat these differently than my VJ content, so I use groups to separate different categories of content in my shows.
Very good program but I don't find this very useful for a video club setting due to the time you need to find the BPM especially on short songs. IN the process of opening a nightclub with strictly video music. Is there a better way other than knowing the BPM and manually typing them in for each song? Thanks in advance from Cartagena, Colombia. I'll keep playing with the program for a while and see what happens and keep watching your helpful videos
Ableton Link, ProDJ Link, Denon Link, and Showkontrol can help link the music player to resolume and share data like bpm and track info with Resolume. Serato Video may also do what you need if you use serato dj for the audio.
That is clearly a great beginner tutorial, thanks a lot! Can't wait to see more :D I think I'll binge all your videos soon.
When I heard at 1:05 "You don't need a midi controller", I knew: This will be my favorite tutorial! 🤗First Resolume - then MIDI is a good approach.
Principles first, gear can come later. Trying to make the basics accessible! Glad you dig it Robert!
Thank you for this so crystal clear beginner tutorial, no awkward wording and uhs - cheers!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Props to my editor for making me seem coherent lol
@@SeanBowes lol sure. But perhaps also a matter of preparation ;-)
Yeah you are great at tutorials - thank you - i also appreciate your subtle humor

Finally someone making a tutorial I can actually follow, thank you
Happy to hear that! Thanks for watching. What am I doing that's different than others you've seen? More on the way!
Just the other ones I found were less structured and youd just get random bits and pieces of explanation about whats going on in the software
Thanks! I try to think about structuring them to be efficient and clear so I'm glad that's coming through
The sound effects from you makes it so much better
