Matt Farah (@thesmokingtire) once said in a Corvette C7 track one-take that the car was so fast he didn't feel comfortable taking a hand off the wheel to change gears, so he did the one-take in an automatic corvette instead. So if Matt of all people couldn't handle a manual Vette...
Michael Scotty Kilmer of all people and also VINWIKI made a really good video about it a while ago. Long story short, most manual drivers are die hard actual drivers, and they usually buy used. Most initial buyers are just filthy casuals who don’t know stick and only buy auto. So it creates a big void in the secondary market. Manuals are popular with used buyers, aka, not the guys paying the Manufacturer directly. The demand for a manual LP640 is pretty damn high whereas initial sales only accounted for less than 7%. At least we still got manual Civic SI’s 😂 🤷♂️
This is a bit stupid. There are dirt-cheap cars that have mid-engine layouts. Likt the Toyota MR2 for example. But most of the time, when a manufacturer decides to go Mid-Engine, they usually go with a more expensive setup since the car will probably either be a Supercar, or very similar to a supercar. This car, for the low price is obviously a VERY VERY considerable choice for future buyers. If it does indeed perform well too. But let's be honest. I don't see any real new tech in this car. That is what you usually pay in expensive cars. Either NEW tech never used before, or hand-made parts, or extreme quality parts.
People are so mad that a $60k car is competing with their european hypercars and even has a faster acceleration than a lot of them, now they're grasping at straws and being like "BUT ITS NOT FASTER AND USES CHEAPER MATERIALS THAN THIS $2.3 MILLION DOLLAR FERARRI HYPERCAR!!!! TAKE THAT AMERICA!!!!"
Not only will this dominate the sports/base supercar market, it will bring down the value of other desirable cars as well so it's a win win for all of us
@John Gilroy I disagree. I think people shopping the C8 are looking for supercar, mid-engine performance at a discount. People shopping the Supra are probably interested in it's aftermarket potential.
it's not gunna be 60 grand for fucks sakes. just like the 35,000 Tesla, ur never gunna get that model, they dont make it. the ones ur going to be buying is 50 to 60 grand. cuz they dont option it that way. same with the Corvette, it's prolly going to be 70 to 80 grand, and then markup cuz a hyped up car, so like 90 to 100 grand is prolly what ur going to buy it for, but actual market price will be 70 or 75 grand
The C7 was finally good enough for me to grab one... and so far a year later and 4 track days = zero regrets. Given what they have done with the C8 here there are no more excuses. Congrats to Tadge and the team, impressive results.
Rich guys for vettes? Naw. It's your 72 year old grandfather that can't push a clutch in anymore. The reason I never liked the C5. It was made for geriatric quetips.
I'll probably never buy a car new. I let the rich guys buy the newest, fastest sports cars, then let them eat the depreciation. It's a curse that the second hand market wants the manual but the second hand market doesn't get to spec out the car. While I was typing this I thought to myself "Why don't rich guys buy manual transmissions?" "They would sell for more on the second hand market." "Manuals would be such a good investment." As if they give AF about how much they will sell it for! If they can afford a super car then 5 years later they can afford another one without selling/trading. It's no big deal for them.
Not everyone theres plenty of people who have tested the car and they love it. The only ones i see complaining r those who haven't driving the new supra
@@karywho No. Just anyone with a half a brain who realizes it's a re-badged BMW Z4. There's nothing innovative or special about the new Supra. It's slightly faster than a Z4. Cool.
There are a few cheap as well like Lotus exige, Alfa Romeo 4c and Renault A110 which are better through the corners because they are lightweight but the C8 is at another level. It is still not heavy, it has a proper racing engine, it looks better, it has better drivetrain and braking system.
@@inox1ck 300hp out of 1.8l ? Suckin' on gas when you floor it but o h b o I that turbo kick Also it will most likely break because that's wayyyy to much HP for such a small engine
@@Timochat_ If you're talking about the Alpine A110 engine, then you are mistaken. Europeans, instead of just making shit bigger when they wanted more power, they just made what they had, better. While Americans have become better att making engines in recent years, it wasn't that long ago that Europeans were laughing their asses off when Americans put big ass V8 into cars and got barely 200hp out of them. Something European manufacturers could get with an engine half its size. And believe me when I say that Renault know how to get power from small engines. Not only do they have extensive experience from Rally working on small engines with power out the ass. But Renault have a 1.6l engine that produces well over 800hp that they race in F1. They probably know more about building powerful small engines then North America combined.
The NSX wasn't just an affordable mid-engine super car, it was about innovation as well. Just like the new NSX is about innovation with its hybrid engine. And having actually ridden in an NSX, it is beyond amazing. Frankly, the only ones bitching about the NSX are those wanking off to supercars online or those who have built what the NSX was up in their head to something it could never be.
The GT500 is a monster in its own right with a dedicated fanbase and it's sold in limited quantities. The thing sells itself. I don't even like the new mustang design but the GT500 is one of the best cars I've ever seen.

I was trying to find something to say, but I'm really speechless. Absolutely impressed. Starting at $55k, not including the huge dealer markup it's going to have, may well make it the best looking, best handling,, and fastest, bang for your buck EVER. That's coming from a diehard Ford guy.

@@Metroidfreek Economics. The GTR was a "return to form" supercar that was released during a major recession. They had to scrounge up demand by offering it at a freakish price. It eventually ballooned in price as the economy got better and the need to actually pay for all the R&D that went into the car had to be made. I reckon they still haven't gotten anywhere close to breaking even, which is exactly why we see a largely unchanged GTR to this day. Same with the 370z.

Fun fact, I claim responsibility for the C6-8 Corvettes having 2 cup holders. When I was 14 my dad and I ventured to Bowling Green for the 3rd birthday bash of the C5. We were there to receive the award for the highest mileage C5 Corvette at the time. Because of this we were at a table with one of the lead engineers. My smug 14yo self leaned over and said, “you know what’s wrong with your car? … it only has one cup holder and there are two seats”. BOOM the next Corvette has 2 cup holders. Coincidence? But most of the time, when a manufacturer decides to go Mid-Engine, they usually go with a more expensive setup since the car will probably either be a Supercar, or very similar to a supercar.
This car, for the low price is obviously a VERY VERY considerable choice for future buyers. If it does indeed perform well too.
But let's be honest. I don't see any real new tech in this car.
That is what you usually pay in expensive cars.
Either NEW tech never used before, or hand-made parts, or extreme quality parts.

While Americans have become better att making engines in recent years, it wasn't that long ago that Europeans were laughing their asses off when Americans put big ass V8 into cars and got barely 200hp out of them. Something European manufacturers could get with an engine half its size.

Before anyone says “cheap Ferrari 🤮” this is the most amazing beautiful high tech American sports car I will ever see .... and I’m British and ITS ONLY 55k WTFFFFF I would expect something like 200k but na bro it’s amazing affordable and amazing and I can’t wait to buy one
I'm British been following Corvettes since the C3..this is a supercar hands down...amazing.
200k will be how much it costs to import it to the UK
Everyone who said that can't afford this car or even a used Ferrari. This car is amazing and for it to be a first from Chevy being compared to a company that's been doing it for decades now that tells you something!
I think the really interesting part is that at the press launch they did say that the C8 will be available in right hand drive. I wonder if they'll work on making it more affordable as well to import.
You said amazing twice... it's ight though, I did too. 😂
First the all-new Ford GT now the C8... holy cow America
Loving it! Finally the US is reacting and in a Grand Way! Been hoping/expecting this comeback since the mid 90s...
@@900108Chale Ya still gotta do something about the engine. I know a design for making pushrod-8s bitchin' again by full-linking the valves and thus making for desmo. Then all you need is a crossed exhaust to even the pulses for scavenging, and finally a couple of turbos. No one would be able to talk about "V8 Cavemen" again.
@@Sakhmeov ford gt has a twin-turbo v6 and you're hard-pressed to find better power per dollar than the ls based engine platform. I don't even like the ls but you can't argue with cheap power
15 years ago america was the laughing stock of the car world.. but gawd damn how things have changed. this car is going to make them eye-talians have a good long look at themselves in the mirror
@@diltd3989 I can argue with it on a running cost and technical rationality and development basis. The problem with the GTs engine for instance is sacrificing some layout stuff for compactness and so forth. An I6 is always better in terms of potential pound for pound whatever you do to things, but would have required a bit too much unconventional thought for a big brand. Mark that I'm not saying that the engine they did knock up is bad. It certainly isn't. I'm saying however that there is plenty of room for optimization...
4:18 I see you boys got that big money wheelchair camera rig haha
THEYRE USING WHEELCHAIR TO FILM THIS 😭🤣
I'll buy this over a crazy expensive truck and buy a cheap beater truck for work 😂🤣 it's a bargain
Tony Flick you nailed it man... 🤣
I would do that
The old Silverado is a beast
Yes, I was mulling the same decision. All purchases are on hold ...this is exciting.
If they do a zl1 package it will be fucking bonkers
This is by far the best presentation of the C8 I've seen! Unfortunately it makes me want one even more.😪
This videos SUCKED..ass didn't even drive it, just sat his big fat ass and ran his mouth.
They aren't even really out yet so I doubt they would have even been allowed to drive it. It's not their car.
@@jmcc198 Then the asshole should have said so in the title which was nothing but click bait. If I wanted to see an ad, I can get on TV.
chad haire have you ever actually watched this show before 😂
chad haire...dude...this guy gives a VERY informative video presentation on MANY automobile makes including detailed history. You need to watch just a few more of his videos to realize how good a job he does. As for a driving review of the new Chevrolet Corvette C8 by vloggers...there AREN’T ANY(yet)...there are ONLY walk arounds at dealerships/events + in the wild(corporate/test cars). This has been one of the BEST vlogger impression videos to date...he will drive the car & give driving impressions when he is able to do so, ie. when GM allows it.
"The difference is that this one didn't disappoint everybody" ROFL!!!!
Heyy,, Come join the "C8 Corvette Owners (And Friends)" Facebook group! It's blowing up right now! You'll like it!! ========

Let me just switch gears. I just gotta grab the stick shift..... Wait!!! What the f.....???? RIGHT!! This thing only comes in automatic 😑
Complete disappointment for me, supra is far better looking and I'm pretty sure it's going to be better driving.

Not to tell you what to do, but I would wait for different trim levels to be announced.
Difference is she will still have pilot in 15 years with 300k miles
I would wait for the Z06
Wait for the zO6 👀
congrats Chevy you just destroyed the new "supra" sales 👍
For sure! If you really must have a Supra buy the old one but you'd have to have rocks in your head to choose the new one over this masterpiece! :)
@@ScylockeX nope local dealer cant move the 2 he has, that markup dropped real quick.
@@ScylockeX They didn't make a 2019 "Supra". The new ones are 2020s.
@@adamcz3183 Maybe those are the two I see being heavily advertised on Facebook all the time. Weird color combinations or something?
Was actually saving up for a Supra but now I’m reconsidering
When you rake in billions on over priced SUV's & crossovers, you can afford to throw the little people a bone once in a while.
No prob! Let the fools spend their bucks in subsidizing me!
$70k for a Cadillac Escalade is a little nutty
Sports cars are basically a marketing strategy. It validates a brand and attracts people to their other cars. It’s an investment honestly
I think not. PS: my dad has put over half a million miles on various Corvettes since ‘97. His C7 has just over 200k on it right now. He drives a lot. Haha.
Make no bones about it..this gorgeous C8 Corvette is a supercar..looks design interior exterior performance technology seats its all for $60,000 base model. 0-60mph
.a real V8 engine...lambo ferrariclaren porsche...all left the building with red faces. Wait for the legendary Z06 and ZR1...wow.
False. Real sport cars won't be phased. 80 year olds cashing in their IRA will buy these, and a pallet of jorts. Everyone is safe.

dont compare corvette with german and italian supercars please you gonna get out of arguments fast

Peet Kotze so 🤔. How about the old nsx is it Ferrari 🤔
@@youcansave15ormoreoncarins75 youre stupid. Ferraris tend to have mid engine designs therefore the corvette has a mid engine design and looks similar.

My C8 dream build: 4WD with front axle disconnect, a wrinkle red powder coated whipple supercharger, air suspension, active aero, big wang, forged wheels, better illustration graphics dashboard, launch control and rolling anti lag using a Stand Alone Syvecs ECU, a racing livery wrap that is stealth-like with red accents, upgrade audio system with sub, tints, bodykit, NOS. 😎
Why would anyone choose the new supra over this corvette .
This corvette wins
hungrynapps Unreliable. Also I’d buy a corvette if I wanted to win in a straight line.
@@software_development since when are BMWs known for reliability.......
@@software_development So you're saying GM made a mid engine supercar-looking thing to win in a straight line.... That's some BS. And the new Supra is really just a BMW, so the GM probably does have the Zupra beat on reliability... definitely with the engine at least... lol
Dunno about where you are but in the UK the Supra is over £20,000 cheaper so there's that but you get a whole lot more car for that money. The Supra is so disappointing as it doesn't live up to the name and its too much of a half ass job
@@software_development Corvettes stopped being "straight line" cars in '97. They're one of the most capable track cars available, and certainly the best in anything close to that price bracket.
Honestly I think Chevy knocked the C8 out of the park, I've not really liked previous generations (I did respect them) but not my type of car.
Hats off to the designers behind this generation Vette, the price is an amazing bargin and everything about it says exotic.
BigHeadClan ikr. Never really was a usdm lover, far less a vette lover but this is a really nice car at a nice price.
@@StreetDreamzTT Aye it's the first car in a long while that is making me question if I really need to own a house...
BigHeadClan 🤣🤣🤣
Well played GM. They nailed it on everything. Turbocharged or supercharged will be completely insane.
Quickest 60k I’ll ever spend
I can only imagine GM Corvette engineers laughing their ar$$ off when they saw the new Supra come out...
Toyota: "But we designed it to be finished by the customer! It has such great cooling we had to reduce it! And we left bolt holes for the customer to add stiffening bars, but the chassis is TOO STIFF that we had to reduce rigidity. Also the Automatic is the best transmission on the planet. Oh and most important, these professional simulated vents and scoops are only for serious race car engineers to modify into real vents and scoops"
F*** Toyota. Chevy/GM is making it’s comeback.
Japan woke up the sleeping beast again
I whole heartedly believe Toyota made the new Supra specifically so people would swap Supra 2JZs into them. The speakers in the car should play that Zelda treasure chest finding noise when you finally start a swapped 2J in the new Supra for the first time. Daigo Saito immediately swapped a 2J into his lol That thing is pretty sick.
@@JT-yz4rj I think GM doesn't care about Japan much in terms of the C8, it's Europe that they are trying to invade. Watch out 911, I think that's the C8's real competitor. Both are track monsters, both have decent interiors (911 used to be crap really) and now both will be looked at in the same light.
Sigma Projects looking forward to seeing them on the road here in Europe ☺
