Good review. To date myself, I remember dragging my dad to see Batman in theaters. He was kinda quiet but I believe he was reasonably entertained. I, of course, was thrilled! Also, in 1966 my parents only owned a black and white tv and seeing my heroes in living color for the first time was fantastic.
Adam West is definitely my favorite Batman. And that series had some nice-looking actresses, starting with Yvonne Craig and Julie Newmar. Also some great villains.
When the Batman movie came out in 1989, the Family Channel starting airing the 1960s series in late summer of that year at 10 pm. A great summer to be a kid!! I bought the VHS copy of the 1966 movie around Christmas of that year and watched it about 100 times.
Thanks for a fun review! Charitable Correction: The villains did not develop the dehydration machine. It was invented by Commodore Schmidlapp, which is why they kidnapped him. 😇
Batman: Pretty *fishy* what happened to me on that ladder... Commissioner Gordon: You mean where there's a fish there could be a Penguin? Robin: But wait! It happened at sea... See? C for Catwoman!
I have a real soft spot for this movie, and the 60’s series. I much prefer the dark movie versions of the Dark Knight, but this is fun if you don’t take it seriously and just go along with the ride. Love a lot of the stuff that came out of the 60’s, even though it was well before my time.
I absolutely Agree with you, The Darker version of Batman maybe Better But The 1960s Batman is still Fun and enjoyable, and I'm Pretty Sure that Batman wasn't really Dark Back Then when The 1966 Series and The 1966 movie came out so The Adam West Batman actually does makes Sense for that Time period
Yeah I watched this a ton as a kid and I remember adults would tell me they used to watch the show. I remember being like, "What show??? Theres a show????" lol
You can tell someone’s a greenhorn to Batman when they talk like the ‘60s show was what made Batman kid friendly and silly and it ruined Batman’s popularity. Even going back to the Golden Age, Batman’s breaking the fourth wall telling kids not to waste their money on slots, dishing out puns and one-liners left and right, SMILING, and going on all sorts of wacky adventures. Also Batman was NEVER more popular than Superman before the show and was on the verge of cancellation before ‘60s Bat-Mania made Batman permanently mainstream
I saw this movie around the time the '89 Batman movie was out. I've seen the TV show in reruns and I have enjoyed it so much. I love that movie. That scene you've mentioned, when Batman was running around with that bomb over his head and that famous line you've qoted. I don't know how ihow many times I saw this movie that year. I think I saw it twice. I think the second time I saw it, my sister and her husband came over for a visit. He had the movie, but it was taped off the TV in Indianapolis. That sequence of him running around with the bomb on top of his head was got cut out, jumping to when he finally threw that bomb out in the ocean off camra and it blew. And me and my brother were like, Hey, they cut that scene off. And our brother-in-law didn't remember seeing that part of the movie. Before that, me and my brother saw the 66' Batman movie. I don't know who else was with us in the same room. It was down in the basement of our old house we used to live. That Batmainia video, you've mentioned, was the company's name Goodtimes Video? Cause I've seen a couple videos from that company. I saw a Dick Tracy one and there was like a super hero type video I saw. The super hero one I got was at a big sale in McCormick Place in Chicago in the early 90's. Great video, Sean.
Batman was totally unique for a long time in that the series used the actual comic book villains [along with some created for the series]. Adventures of Superman, Wonder Woman, the Amazing Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk- all these popular live action series did not feature any comic book villains. Batman was a comic book come to life. They hit a home run with the series and this feature film.
Great review, its been years since I've re-watched this movie, its such a fun ride. Actually the "Bat-Cycle" debuted in the episode "Not Yet He Ain't". The "Bat-Cycle" that was in the movie was a redesign. Surprised you didn't mention the "Shark" scene, as campy as it was, it practically predated "Jaws" in terms of "Shark Attacks" on film. :D
Disney would never put out a DC movie on Physical Media. The only hope we have is if maybe they could lease it to Warner Bros. or to some Third party label
Don’t think the Batcopter was ever shown in the tv show. I believe it cost too much to use it in the show. I read this a while back on Wikipedia. And according to that article, the helicopter used is still in existence, minus the batwings. There’s a recent photo of it in the article. BTW, I have all the Hot Wheels of those vehicles. All look amazing!
This Show was made Back in a Time Where They would Never Even Think of Having a Women Get in On the Action Punch a Guy or Get Punched by a Guy cause the audience back then would of Lost there Minds if they Say a Lady getting Hit, I Remember when I saw Batman Returns and Batman Hit Catwoman and she was like ''How Could you I'm a Woman'' and I was like Welcome to the 90s Bitch.
Both movie and tv show sucked. We were angry and disappointed. Those of us who loved Batman expected a show that really portrayed Batman, Then we realized it's just making fun It was. Dosier hated comic books He did the show to show how stupid comic books are.
Literally everything you just said is wrong. Batman was only the dark, serious avenger of the night that we now today for the first 5 years or so of the original comics. The Batman comics of the 50s and 60s were notoriously silly and campy. The shows simply upped the camp factor a bit, but was otherwise right in tone with the comics of the period. It wasn't until the 70s that it was reinvented and we got the Dark Knight as we know the character today, returning the character to its dark roots and staying that way. Have you actually read any of the comics from the era?

Julie Newmar missed out on her role
This Movie is really a Fantastic Classic ☺️

" Some Days you just can't get rid of a Bomb. " LOL
Ho Ho Ho,Indeed Michael!
Thanks for a fun review!

Ah yes, you're quite right! Silly me, can't believe I forgot that...lol

Robin: But wait! It happened at sea... See? C for Catwoman!
Love your reviews they are alway insightful and entertaining.
Batman punching the shark on the ladder still makes me howl! Hand me the shark repellant!
i loved this movie

My thoughts exactly

I'm not a big fan of batman or comic books but something about the 1960s TV series+movie intrigued and fascinated me😁 for sure fun times💯

I loved this movie and the show watched it at my grandparents on nick at night in the 80s

Great review, this is one of favorite Batman flicks! I enjoyed the performances, music, everything!
Oh shit! That's right! I need to update my firmware!
I Liked This Movie it was my First Introduction to the 66 Series, This Universe Earth 66 made a Return in CW Crisis on Infinite Earths.
I hope we get a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of this film.
Disney would never put out a DC movie on Physical Media. The only hope we have is if maybe they could lease it to Warner Bros. or to some Third party label
@@newmedia2862 Ok.
The TV series was in copyright hell for years preventing a DVD release.Only clips from the movie could be used in Return to the Batcave
Yep, it took a looooong time and some very determined people to get all the rights untangled for the release.

Season 2 having 60 episodes may have been too much, could be why people got bored of it & viewers started to stray away from it.
that cover is so deceptive, looks like its part of the 90s movie series. def prefer the more lighthearted covers of other releases of the same.
Onomatopoeia
