- Tutorial on how to remove and install the rear wheel on a rear hub drive eBike.
Jump to 1:58 if you are already familiar with bike wheel removal and your wheel is not coming out after removing the axel nuts.
I am not a professianal bike mechanic or an expert on eBikes. These are just some tips and tricks I picked up working on my own eBikes.
*Definitely referred to axel nuts as bolts throughout the video - whoops!
The simplest and most informative video for installation of the rear wheel of the ebike. Thank you!
Facts!
Best video on RUclips for installation of a rear wheel On an ebike.
Very nice video that made understanding the 10mm wrench benefit very apparent. Having the bike upside down with handlebar gear clear was a perfect alternative for the average joe that does not have a named brand bike stand. Multiple details were plain to understand. 5 stars to you sir!!
I watched like 6 videos on this topic and for some reason, this was the only one that comprehensively explained everything in a way I could understand. Fuckin' thank you.
I just got an e-bike and have seen 3 videos on taking off the rear wheel. This is by far the best. I don't know if you will do more explanation of maintaining an e-bike but I hope so. May I request: maintaining the chain (cleaning and greasing), battery care, motor care and maintenance and anything I don't know that I should be asking about. Many things are not particular to e-bikes but you seem to have an ability to explain quickly things that I've not understood when others try to explain them. Maybe you know I don't know things so you go into more detail. The short cuts into close-ups really help.
I struggled so much trying to put the wheel on, it was impossible without your video and 10mm wrench. Done in 2 minutes that I couldn't do in 2 hours.
The best video I have watched all day on how to remove and install rear wheel on an e-bike, will be attempting this tomorrow when I install new inner-tube. Fingers crossed !!
First ebike. This was super helpful. Thank so much! I’ll be doing this later today.
That trick with the use of an wrench... you saved my life and time, man.
Great video, the 10mm trick is fantastic, thank you very much for helping get me back on the road!
Awesome video. Just what I needed to change out the tires on the wife's E-bike. The front was pretty much like a regular tire change but the slight move with the 10mm was the exact tip I needed to drop the rear wheel out of the frame. Thanks for posting. 👍 LIKE!
I love and appriciate this video 🙏🏻 I’ve watched countless wheel removal videos I did everything except the last step which is the wiggle the rod. Now i’ve done it. Great video
This is the video that I needed! I watched so many videos and the part after two axel nuts being removed and wheel falling off so easily didn’t work. To think it was a 10 mm wrench to finally drop the rear wheel! Thank you!
Update: Now I got the new tires and inner tubes on….i’m struggling to get the rear back on. I didn’t take note of how they were on 🤦🏻♂️
Update: I had such a hard time getting the rear on I watched your video again and again and it’s crazy pulling the frame while trying to place the wheel in with the washer/nuts went in snug! Without doing that no matter what I did my rear tire was grinding on the rear brake pads. This is a must do! Thank you again! Only your video helped from taking the rear wheel off and putting it back on.
Thanks so much for this video. I just got one of these and one of the tubes was defective, not a huge deal the company sent me another one free, but of course it had to be the back wheel, because that's just my luck lol.
This video and a couple pictures got me back up and running, so really thanks again.
Thanks man got so mad last night trying to change the tube and put the wheel back on by my self that I called out of work greatly appreciate the vid
Thank you for this video. I have the exact same bike, so this video was perfect for showing me how to remove and replace the rear wheel. The instructions are precise and well explained. Thanks again!
Thanks man was great that little tip around the small spanner to loosen the tyre off was awesome. The gravity release tips were great as well. Thanks a million!
Many thanks for this share.
I didn't do my 1st rear wheel inner tube replacement myself, due to confidence.
But watched and tried very much to learn from the bike shop person.
I got my own inner tube from Halfords.
The "Slime" branded tube.
Hoping this helps me get home when I have my next puncture.
Again many thanks and Kudos on a great video.
Hoping for many more
Thank you for this video, gave me the courage to change a flat myself on my e-bike
Thank you so much. I can't believe how much easier it was with the bike upside down!!!!
That 10mm spanner trick. Thanks so much have had a mare before watching this
Thanks for sharing the tip on the two-by-fours; it will protect my cockpit!
This video alone is worth a sub. Thanks to you I got my tube swapped in 30 minutes (personal best for me 😂)
Thank you so much for this video I had to change the tires and I had no idea how to get the back wheel off thank you so much and I really appreciate that you made this video.
It’s so much cheaper too
@@Idkwhatthisis10thank God my flat didn't happen on the road but now it would not be so daunting..at home I noticed the flat tire..after realizing the hole was at the base of the valve my next duty was to buy a new tube..video here gave me the necessary help I needed to proceed
Excellent instruction. On My Himiway Cruiser reassembly is MUCH easier if you also remove the brake caliper. One item that is often skipped over is torquing the axle nuts. On my eBike the recommendation is 30-38Nm (22-28 lbft)
Thank you so much sir ! ! This video helped me to get the job done right ! ! I am back on the road... Easy Rider Rides Again ! !
Hey do you know the size of wrench he used for the axel nuts?
Thank you for this informative video, I think you’ve solved my problem. But to be sure, would you be so kind to describe to me the bolt and washer order on each side? I just purchased this Moscow plus, and it looks like there might be too many washers. Something doesn’t seem right here. Thanks again.
I've worked as pro bike mechanic. From my experience, the quantity and arrangement of hub washers varies depending on manufacturer. As you remove your wheel, you want to carefully note where things are positioned (eg: you might find a stack of 3 washers inside the dropouts, than a flat washer, lock washer, and the axle nut on the outside). Once everything is bolted, nothing should bind. If something is wrong, take it apart again, and see if something is in the wrong place. Every now and then, I have also run into cases where the bike was fitted with the wrong parts at the factory. Chinese QC is terrible on bicycles. Often you're the one that has to fix the problems they left you with.
Excellent!
My notched washers fell off before I knew their orientation!
Thanks!
I have to reiterate that the 10mm wrench advise has just ended a very long period of aggravation!!!
Thank you for the very informative video.
I used a 11 and it workt perfectly
Thank you so much for this!
The part about rotating the axle (just a little) with the 10 mm wrench was crucial for me to know in order to remove the rear wheel from my Eahora AM100. Couldn't figure out why I couldn't remove the wheel before seeing this...
Very informative Thank you It's my understanding that when the motor is off and you're peddling the bicycle that the battery is recharging... Is this correct?
No that's not correct at all
A++ Fantastic video and you are a great teacher. Thank You for the info!
great video. I was wondering why my rear wheel was stiff upon installation, until I watched this video and realised I had placed the washer incorrectly.
Excellent tutorial.
Thanks for a good video. I would never have removed the axle properly without it. My manufacturer has very poor instructions and they did not mention turning the axle with a wrench at all.
And it doesn't hurt to take a couple of pictures before starting as reference how the zip ties went etc.
the inner washer seems to remain with the gear sprocket and can be left alone. i did not see it coming out when you removed the wheel. also the nut and washer stays on the cable so no need to worry about the orientation.
Thanks, exactly what i was looking for.
What about that little spring that goes inside the hole in the bolt, is that important to be inside of there?
when i attach the nuts to finish fitting the ebike wheel, and tighten them its pulling itself out the frame, any ideas on why this is happening?
I've same issue did this video work for you
The tab that sticks out from the anti-spin washers needs to fill the empty space in the bottom of the drop out. If these are worn out, missing or not doing their job, get new ones! Some high torque motors will use a torque arm that bolts to the frame rather than those little washers. Axle nuts need to be torqued pretty tight. I use 40 - 50 ft lbs.
Thank You! It was helpfull to see it.
Great.thanx a lot.sure helped me and i was successful 😊
Outstanding video sir! Thank you
How do you service the wheel bearings on a rear hub motor ebike? Can you link any videos on that topic?
Would you happen to know what size are the screws for the cap on the motor? I lost mine and I’m trying to replace them.
Your vid really helps bro.
Thx
Don't you want the cutout for the cable to be facing down ? I'm thinking now water can easily get into the hub via the cable.
This video was very useful except I have one small problem. My Hyper E-Ride mountain bike has the notch on the bolt and not a washer on the non-wire side. I can remove the wire side bolt/washer fine but the other side is static. Any suggestions?
Thank you very much. It's great instruction! I tried to put the notch inside! Silly me!
It's a good idea to put a cap over the connection pins to protect them., If you don't have
one that came with the bike, a sharpie cap work well.
Is it normal that your drive side axle is not a full cylinder? It appears to have a groove in it on the top side.
The groove in the axle is a wire relief channel. It's supposed to be oriented downwards so that the motor power cable doesn't bind on the end of the axle shaft.
I'm assuming a wheel like this can't be used with a turbo trainer?
Very helpful bro ! .. I have a broken sopke so I have a project ahead on my GM28 GoGo best ! lol
How you got those notch on the axle? My wheel don't have it and even if it did the axle is too big for the frame and the notch wouldn't fit into that space? Help me please.
Great video!
Hi i got philodo h8 and i installed the same way as you but the rear wheel popped right out as i was going up hills any idea why
Good video helped a lot
How the hell do you turn that bolt so easily? Mine refuses to move.
Thank you 🙏 answered
If only it would be that simple!
These disk brakes are a pain in the neck. There are those anti-rotation spacers/washers (with the notch) that are on the thread and when put thebwheel back, there will be disk fricion and can't tighten the wheel. On the front wheel there are simple washers, no thread, no pain in the neck. Now I have to figure out how many threads on each side to have.
I took the rear disc brake shoe off. When lowering the wheel on...try to lower it closest to front of bike frame working back. Holding the derailer back at same time.
Even as a pro bike mechanic, rear hub wheel service is a hassle. The wheel comes out easy enough, but getting it back in requires carefully lining up the brake rotor, orienting the flats of the axle, and making sure the washers are in the right place. I used to do this with the bike on a workstand. The trick I did, was I'd sit on a shop stool, and put the wheel on my knee. I could use a small leg movement to slowly lift the wheel into the brake caliper, then old it in place while I fiddled with the axle orientation with the 10mm wrench.
Someone removed the outer circlip from my ebike wheel. And it is bent and neither do I know exactly where it goes. Will it be ok to ride my bike without the circlip ?
I need this. I will update you tomorrow with how well it goes with mine, but I got a flat on a hill today. Terrifying
very good bro ...❤❤
great vid! thanks :)
its obious this tech.has done a number of these jobs. exsplains well ,
That's how I scraped a lot of paint off my frame.
My son has a totgaurd and it’s a nightmare on wheels. I wanna take a sledgehammer to the rear wheel assembly
Great video..
perfect. Thank you
Is this for soodoo eletric bike?
Thank you boss ❤
That’s nice!
நன்றி 🙏
2:13 looks counter clockwise to me. Maybe because it's upside down?
The bike shop wanted 50 bucks to change tire, i did it myself first time and its no different than a regular bike. Unplugging the wire is the only difference. Easy.
Thank you .
Love from INDIA
Thank you
Hey do you know the wrench size he used to remove the axel nuts?
@@ojopraise9059 not sure. Looks like 18
Thankyou
He didn't put the washer back on! :/
10 mm wrench ! I was like “what am I missing here”?
This was shown a little tooooo simple! You make it look way too easy
What is the fucking wrench size? Nothing else matters.
It's not the politicians, it's the people that vote for them.
Thankyou
Thank you.
thanks...
