To think there will never be another album from Tom Petty is utterly crushing.
Franz, there is another one after this with his other band, Mudcrutch 2.
Hang on. Steve said that there were 6 or 7 coming, including some live stuff, and a follow up to Wildflowers.
The Wildflowers album originally had 25 songs on it. They should put out those songs they left off the album
It hurts my heart
@IBRanger I am so disappointed that I didn't get tickets to go to see him in OKC that last tour. Thought I'd go, "next time...." very sad
Mike Campbell is such an original.
Love this song, hearing it today for the first time (with a broken heart, RIP Tom. . .) -- it's nice to see the positive comments and realize how many other folks just loved Tom & the band. Our band closed the night last night in a local pub with "Runnin Down a Dream", a girl was dancing and crying. We're so blessed to have had this band in our lives.
A real rocker of a song with great lyrics and Tom's voice sounds amazing.
Tom is truly a never ending rock star. Even after over 30 years, he still puts out incredible albums. Fault Lines is one of my favorites.
Tom petty and thbs are the only band who i always buy a physical copy. Support Real Talent!!!
*****
Yes I want HARD COPY!!!!!!!!!! for the long run
...and Rush
I really hope you're not saying Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers is the only talented band.
This is my favorite band. Grew up listening to their music, and will never ever stop!
Support Crazy Horse too!
This song is already a classic to me. Way to go tom and mike
Ooh, yeah.
Love this! Love ALL of their stuff!
One of the best songs ever recorded by any artist - EVER.
This song is so cool. Almost a 60's feel to it, fantastic guitar, I'll never forget the first time I heard it.
Rip tom, you will always be one of the greatest songwriters
Tom continuously gets better and better
Mike's fuzzy guitar is just terrific.
👍
........this man is incredible.............how many tunes
are still in him? How many great covers? Rock, rock and roll, blues,
some country, pop............GENIUS and the Breakers.......Proud to say
his boyhood home is 10 minutes away from me now............I'm a
musician, but this man is a huge gift of talent and all the emotions of
music. I go park in front of his boyhood home, to get the vibes, and to
thank him, thank him, thank him for giving my life invaluable person to
listen to , to play along with on my keyboards, to cry, to laugh, to
feel it all...................Hail TP and Breakers....Beatles of
today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this band with all my heart
This is just freakin' fantastic. LISTEN :)
I love Tom Petty so much.. Wish I was around to see him live long ago! I just saw him in CT the past weekend and it was the best show I have ever been to!
This is the best band ever in my opinion. This song is such a personal one & it comes STRAIGHT from the heart. Tom spoke truth no matter what...even when it included himself. Tom & Mike Campbell will always be my very top two musical influences & inspirations. Thank you for everything you have done for every one of us!!!
Kick ass song, especially 2:16, that was epic!!! I miss this guy heaps
As always, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are awesome! This is music!
Steve Ferrone on drums is always a good thing;-)
ya...everyone saying mike is what makes this album....
.
F that.... the drums are AMAZING..... (and the guitars)
hell, the whole band is firing on all 8 cylinders on this album!
Never did get used to not having Stan Lynch in back, not to take anything away from Mr. Ferrone
I am number 70 on this audio,,,,,, Hope it gets millions of hits
Heard this purely by chance yesterday. BLOWN AWAY would be an understatement. WOW! What a fantastic record from a brilliant artist.
Woooweee! Makes his 70's music look tame!! Love it!!
In my opinion, the last 2 Heartbreakers albums are their best. How many bands that have been around that long can you say that about. I can only imagine what they would have done next.
With this and Mudcrutch, it was like a fine bourbon or wine, getting better and better. As much as we got from him, it won't ever be enough.
What an instant classic! Hard driving baseline and guitar with Tom's awesome lyrical challenge to look at ourselves honestly, letting us know that he is human like the rest of us... I have a few of my own, as well. Thanks Tom! Awesome show at Red Rocks last September! Best regards to the Heartbreakers and Steve
I love this song...Anything TP is just Fine with me
Tom went out with a bang here. Thing of the other "geezer" rock groups who put out album after album of unlistenable crap, and can only play 30-year-old songs at their concerts. This song is one of Petty's best.
There are few true rockers left and THIS BAND is truly one of them!!!!!! I was just talking to my wife and we decided that there is no such thing as a bad Petty and Heartbreakers song, which again there are few of those types of bands that are or ever will be! Kudos Petty and Heartbreakers, hope to see you all this tour!
I can name a bad Tom petty song, 'Candy' on Mojo, awful! but i'd be hard pushed to name another!
I could not say it better. I used to like Tom Petty & HB at the time of "Into to Great Wide Open", around 1990. Then - I fell love with them...
Playin' in the band on hobby-basis and there's lots of Petty songs going on, also early-ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd etc. Yeah, 'Candy' is bad in my books also, but only for the reason that it's hard to sing with playin' rhythm guitar at same time...
Tom never lets you down.
Mike Campbell is one of the most under-stated guitar player in the world (at least in Europe, I am a Finn). But - I believe that he wants to keep it that way and I respect his humble blues-approach for everything. A genious anyway.
I love his new CD...Hypnotic Eye....Keep on rockin' Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!
Tom thought that this song was kick-ass and one of the best they put out in a number of years.
R.I.P. Tom Petty. You may have had fault lines but we all know you're in the right place. They'll be playing your music a million years from now.
Philip Matsikoudis They ought to do a bit in Doctor Who, of the Doctor pulling out a Tom Petty reproduction Vinyl disc from 8 Billion A.D. , like the Agatha Christie paperback, that Ten showed Donna Noble.
FUCK OFF TROLL!!!!
Philip Matsikoudis. Amen!
One of the best from the very best.
Look at Tom Petty keepin it real… Love it!
last year i posted on my fb my picks of petty and heartbreakers top 10 tunes in no certain order, there were so many that deserved to be in the top 10 that i extended it to top 20, then top 30, then eventually i finally stopped at top 100 tunes... with 5 bonus tunes... he wrote just about every tune i posted, none were covers, none were traveling wilburys (what a gem that was listening to them again).. i've been tom petty fan since 80's, i was amazed to discover how much of his music i had never heard before, especially this album and mojo, the dj's must not have been giving them adequate airtime... long live tom petty and the heartbreakers... ciao
The Last DJ album killed that relationship as much as anything.
TP & the HBs are more polished and at ease than ever. I have been a big time fan since 1978 and feel this is one of their best albums. Of course I have felt a that way every time they have ever put a album out. LOL!
I always liked TP since the mid 70's. Great memories and songs from a Wilbury.
This guy's been around for so long and he can bring in a song like Jim Morrison. No-one can do what he can do; fault lines for some idiot who texted me does not me he has faults Cracks under the surface of our own earth's crust deep down. This guy is going to be listened to for a very very long time. Complex stubborn driven genius with a sense of humour -- unique.
Thanks for the Music, Sir Petty.
Tom Petty :miss him already HIS Passing?/ not Able to believe?"all his lifes works of an artistic musician/( "He Is A Real POET "Bob Dylan") said wile in wilberrys!" most agree! and so much in his entire lifes works of art his' performing live with, heartbreakers,, willberrys" was what I loved to see! That smile and grin on his face! , deep into his show a bit of spiritual meditation with the connection with audience, was so cool / live was at his best most everyday// LOVE n' prayers to the family and close friends across the world and then Some ...
Real music...great song Tom.
So good to hear TP's unique voice doing it like no one else can. The guitars....lettin' the music trapped inside out...Nice!! Haven't heard any "drop a gear...and give 'er' music in a long time. This one will set the bar again....really high!!
The new album sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing ahead of the release
Great guitar and lyrics, identifiable.. TP rocks
The best rock track of 2014.
Sirius XM TOM PETTY CHANNEL 31! Fault Lines is a great driving track! All Tom in all iterations all of the time Plus some buried treasure, music from his personal collection.
I discovered this tonight about his channel. I love love love it!
The minor chords and silence before the scream from guitar are like a good old fashioned lamenting dream
I just heard this for the first time yesterday. How in the hell did I miss it after all these years?? Thank you Jim Ladd
Less than a month since I first heard it, don't recall hearing it on the airwaves. What a tune!
Typical Tom Petty......AWESOME!
The epitomy of a Southern gentleman.
Tom said in his last Interview did this song was just as good as his best most popular song
Just heard this SiriusXM channel Tom Petty radio. My new favorite TPH song.
This will be the best song of 2014. I just blasted this song through my amps and ran outside and dove in the mud, or dog shit. Yup dog shit.
Awful muddy up here in Maine, you'd dig it! Rock on!
you are hilarious and we need humour now. I like the smell of horse shit myself, so I fit the picture of the girl in Free Falling. This guy was the real thing. He died for his audience; he had a code, and would not back down from his responsibilities. RIP and thanks for your posting!
😂
This song 🎶 is so now !I love ❤️ its classic
Rest in peace, man of my heart. Rest in peace Tom Petty. This is a very very very sad day.
Is this not a piece of Good current work - no matter who created it. In this case it happens to be our long-time friends. Hell yes I'm glad they can still do it!
Best record of the century
Don't turn you back on Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. The message is always there. r.i.p.

Love this! Good to hear this sound again!
Fantastic track, maybe my all-time favorite for the Heartbreakers.
Thank you Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers for the fantastic concert you guys put on in Vancouver B.C.!! The album is kickass from beginning to end. Praying you have one more album like Hypnotic Eye in you guys, and one more concert in Vancouver.
Love!
This song is so heavy
Amazing work... Good job boys!
You go Tom!!!! Great tunes!
My new stuck on repeat bring it on track :0)
RIP Tom
tom petty has to be the best performer ever to walk this universe
LOVE IT! ♥
WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!!
now that 2014 almost ends I can say that...
this is the song of the year!
I bought this album when it first came out in 2014...didn't know it would be his last. A true classic.
Wasnt his last...
Mudcrutch put out their 2nd album after this.
Like the band , and heart , along with Joan Jett , and pat benatar this is pure gold. Petty is an American treasure just like Neil young and Fleetwood mac . ELO and supertramp , this is some of the best stuff to hit FM.
It is painful for me that Petty is not still with us. He was fantastic. He was "everyman" simple, but also subtle and sophisticated, although I'm not sure he would have admitted that. The "Heartbreakers", "Mudcrutch" and "The Wilburys" were all incredible and relevant. I miss the whole thing. I am sure that the bands and everyone who ever worked with him do too.
needed this,. thanks you so very much for sharing it!! 😎
Well YEAH! Steve's having fun, no doubt. And that guitar - gotta go, gotta dance!
Who in God's name gave this a down vote????!!!!!!
A Belieber or someone who knows nothing of good music.
Stan Lynch
Hey Gary, there has to be one in the crowd, right?. .....here's some Petty trivia I recently learned: Tom Petty wrote 'I Won't Back Down' after an arsonist burned his home down. $1 million damage and no explanation. Makes you wonder why. Good man, good band, good rock & roll music.
peartfaldo LMAO
Well 10 people have but 1k people gave it thumbs up
Love ❤️
This is one of his best songs, he and Mike wrote it. It sounds like Mike.
Mike keeps rockin' - he is THE man.
Hey y'all. Mike Campbell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG, only the good die young....
This is an awesome album! Can't wait to see him at Fenway!!
Just great
Excellent, bravo!!!!
There is a 65 minute interview Tom did with the L.A. Times 5 days before his death (search RUclips for "Tom Petty's Final Interview" to hear it) and he singled this song out. He said he thought it was as good as anything he and the Heartbreakers had done. He seemed to be suggesting that he couldn't have hits as big as his old ones because of the current state of corporate radio formats.
He was correct. Other than alternative stations, there is no place on the radio for this kick-ass song.
I seen them in Davis Calif my dad took me Free born hall was the place Tom was pretty young then and so was l Rest In Peace
Thanks Tom...you and the boys never disappoint. Love the Looney Toones homage!
Tom Petty is stilling making earth quake in 2024! 🤣
The opening riff reminds me of Los Lobos. Great song.
Buenísimo tema.
so damn kool!!!!!!!!!!
I like this music 🎶
getting all these for Christmas
I've got a few of those fault lines myself there seems to be more each passing year
The music antichrist dislikes this one! Great song
Demais!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fault Lines
See those fault lines
Laid out like land mines
It's hard to relax
A promise broken
The ground breaks open
Love falls through the cracks
And I've got a few of my own
I've got a few of my own fault lines
Running under my life
Running under my life
I'm alone here
I play the odds, dear
I go where I please
Down the road
A man I know might not be me
And I've got a few of my own
I've got a few of my own fault lines
Running under my life
Running under my life
On the high wire
Above the wildfire
An old acrobat
A faulty cable
And still he's able not to fall flat
And I've got a few of my own
I've got a few of my own fault lines
Running under my life
Running under my life
