Pune, formerly known as Poona , is the second largest city in the Indian State of Maharashtra, after Mumbai, and the eighth most populous city in India, with an estimated population of 7.4 million as of 2020. It has been ranked as "the most livable city in India" several times.
Along with the city of Pimpri Chinchwad and the three cantonment towns of Pune, Khadki and Dehu Road, Pune forms the urban core of the eponymous Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR). According to the 2011 census, the urban area has a combined population of 5.05 million while the population of the metropolitan region is estimated at 7.4 million. Situated 560 metres (1,837 feet) above sea level on the Deccan plateau on the right bank of the Mutha river, Pune is also the administrative headquarters of its namesake district. In the 18th century, the city was the seat of the Peshwas, the prime ministers of the Maratha Empire and was one of the most important political centres on the Indian subcontinent.
Pune is widely regarded as the second major "IT hub of India" and the top "automobile and manufacturing hub of India". It is known as the "Oxford of the East" with the presence of a wide range of educational institutions. India's first indigenously-run girls' school was started in Pune by Savitribai Phule along with her associate Fatima Sheikh. The city has emerged as a major educational hub in recent decades, with nearly half of the total international students in the country studying in Pune. Research institutes of information technology, education, management and training attract students and professionals from India and overseas.
Pune is well-connected to other cities by Indian and state highways. National Highway 48 connects it to Mumbai and Bangalore, National Highway 65 connects it to Hyderabad and National Highway 60 connects it to Nashik. State Highway 27 connect Pune to Ahmednagar.
The Mumbai Pune Expressway is India's first six-lane high-speed expressway, and it was built in 2002. Only four wheeled vehicles are allowed on it. This expressway has reduced travel time between Pune and Mumbai to a little over two hours. A ring road is planned around the city.
Ratnagiri is a port city on the Arabian Sea coast in Ratnagiri District in the southwestern part of Maharashtra, India. The district is a part of Konkan division of Maharashtra. Ratnagiri was an administrative capital under the Sultanate of Bijapur. In 1731 it came under the control of the Kingdom of Satara, and in 1818 it was annexed to British India. A fort built by the Bijapur Sultanate, reconstructed by the Maratha king Shivaji Maharaj in 1670 is located on a headland near the harbour. Ratnagiri is the birthplace of Indian freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. He was born on 23 July 1856 after which he moved to Pune with his family when he was 10 years old. It was also then place of confinement for Vinayak Damodar Savarkar from 1921 to 1935. Mango, the king of fruits, is famous for its splendid taste in India as well as the rest of the world. The Ratnagiri district is especially famous for mangoes. More than 65,000 acres of land is under mango cultivation, and the biggest production of Alphonso mangoes in India is in Ratnagiri.
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation abbreviated as (MSRTC, or simply ST), is the state run bus service of Maharashtra, India which serves routes to towns and cities within Maharashtra as well as to its adjoining states. It has a fleet strength of 18449 buses. It also offers a facility for online booking of tickets for all buses. Recently From 21 may 2020 Corporation Started Goods Transportation, Private Bus Body Building, Private Vehicle Tyre Remoulding.I n Future Corporation will start Petrol Pump for Private Vehicles all over the Maharashtra.
The Ordinary, Parivartan, Asiad and City Buses are built at MSRTC's in-house workshops at Dapodi, Aurangabad, and Nagpur on Ashok Leyland and TATA chassis. These workshops produce as many as 20,000 buses per year on average. The corporation has nine tyre retreading plants along with 32 divisional workshops. The Shivneri air conditioned bus service consists of Volvo 9400R buses and Scania Metrolink buses. The Shivshahi buses are air-conditioned luxury buses which are operated by MSRTC and some private contractors.
In 2018, MSRTC added approximately a 1,000 special non-AC Vithai buses, which were introduced to ferry passengers to the pilgrim town of Pandharpur in Solapur district.
In 2019,the MSRTC introduced new non-air conditioned buses with beds and recliner chairs specially designed for long overnight routes. Extra facilities like reading lamp, night lamp, charging point, fan and two huge storage compartments have also been provided.

Very apt information on Pune and Ratnagiri. Though I hail from Tamil Nadu I spent seven decades in Pune. Pune is a lovely city with its wonderful climate and water.
गाव सातारा असल्यामुळे रत्नागिरी ते पुणे आणि रत्नागिरी सातारा ... माझ्या लहानपणी पासून च्या आवडत्या बस... त्यातली त्यात तर ड्राइवर च्या बाजूची सीट तर आवडती... st चा पाठी मागचा दरवाजा असल्यापासून ची आठवण... पूर्ण प्रवास जागून करायचा..खूप मजा यायची रोड बगायला... त्यात ड्राइवर काका एकदम फास्ट गाडी चालवणारे असतील तर पूर्ण प्रवासात काही खायला मिळालं नाही तरी चालायचं.. अजूनही आठवतं की एकदा कुंभार्ली घाटात तिवरे पुणे बस आम्हाला overtake करून पुढे गेली.. कोयना मध्ये बस 10 मिनिट थांबायची त्यावेळी 'पपा ना सारखं म्हणत होतो की त्या समोरच्या बस ला का पुढे जाऊ दिला.. त्यावेळी बाजूलाआमचे ड्राइवर काका होते शेवटी ते नं राहवून म्हणाले जास्त गर्दी असल्यामुळे बस स्लो होती.. तू पुढे बसायला ये.. आपण आता overtake करू त्यांना..मग काय पाटण च्या घाटात अशी overtake केली की विचारू नका... सातारा मध्ये जेंव्हा उतरलो तेंव्हा त्यांनी कॅडबरी दिली.. अजून पण तो दिवस डोळ्यासमोर येतो.. अजून हा मार्ग st महामंडळ जोरात चालवतो... miss करतो ही बस... 2 च्या रत्नागिरी सातारा बस चा व्हिडिओ बनवा.. प्लीज..

Beautiful video, capturing the whole essence of a day-time long haul bus journey. Unrelenting ghat terrains, interlaced with wide and smooth highway stretches, and of course a few bad stretches. The condition of the Mum-Goa highway is abysmal to say the least.
Full marks to Chinmay for taking the strain of capturing a good part of the trip. And what a fine driver! Confident, smooth and maintaining a steady speed most of the time.
