I spent my entire adolescent life at that strip. My cologne at that time was nitro and burnt rubber. I had the great fortune to run into Broadway Bob at Universal Studios in Orlando. I saw a guy standing there wearing flame pants and shock white hair and I said to myself..."no...it couldn't be, Broadway Bob? NO WAY, sure enough the Man in person. Standing right in front of Mel's diner. He remembered me. What a guy...there will never be another. RIP Bob you brought smiles to millions.
Loved it. I've not managed a visit to the US of A in over ten years but I'm planning to remedy that next year. I'm going to make sure I visit a drag strip or two while I'm there. You mentioned Santa Pod a short while back and that got me thinking, I remember going to 'The Pod' in 1976 and seeing one of the all time greats race there. None other than Don Garlits, I went with a bunch of mates and distinctly remember him having a less than successful outing. There was much excitement as his main rival on the day was, if my memory serves, a British driver named Crane who beat Big Daddy and I think in the process laid down a new UK record. It seems like a lifetime ago. Thanks for another fine video.
