Thanks, Mike! With that 3rd printing, please help with clarity around the pre-order messaging. I got the previous newsletters for 2nd printing, dutifully followed the links, reviewed the guidelines for which options would make sense (I never could get the original), saw things were still out of stock for ordering (made sense, this was a heads-up after all)... and then the next communication was well after the window was closed. I played this at GenCon, and had a rough time. I'm wondering about your experience and I will also note that it seemed that I was the only one that didn't have fun. I will admit this may have been me, but I think I ran into fundamental flaw, that may be easily fixable. I was playing the shipwrights, which lets you build ships for 1 resource less, so I went in with the plan of build ships and use my surplus of ships to build an advantage. What I found though is outside of building the single unique ships, building ships was actually a detriment. My of the other players in the game had some of their most productive turns when they recalled their ships. So putting out 3-4 ships and recalling seemed to be the sweet spot. Where I was not only spending a turn and resources to build a ship, and another turn placing that ship was far less effective than just recalling. Everyone else was doing 3-4 turns before recalling and getting more resources where I am now placing 5-6 turns placing ship and recalling and getting less resources. Comparing the net resources that other factions got was way out of balance, though I know balancing is one of the last things to be done, but the whole idea of having more ships is pointless was concerning to me. I'm really looking to see how your empierce with that element\faction of the game, I got one play, and I'm sure you've had more.
Hi Derrick! Thanks for the feedback. Sorry you had a rough play, although keep in mind that thanks to your play and others at Gen Con, we are able to make changes. One of these changes is that the shipwrights are getting major fixes! So, it was all for the greater good of the game, I hope you know we are thankful. One other quirk though is that there is no reason to go out with 5-6 turns before returning to station. This can be a tricky concept to understand, but in Andromeda's Edge, you are allowed to go choose your pacing - you can go out with 1-2 and pull back. This can be harder to get used to if you're used to a typical "more workers is best" worker placement game. The goal of the shipwrights in the last version was to build ships but have flexible choice of ships, not to use them all to play. This is definitely the type of game that you see strategies more as you dive in. We're confident that you would have a better go if you saw it again - and we'll also make it better thanks to your play! Cheers!
@@pvaughan007 That great to hear the about the shipwrights and I look forward to backing the project. I am a bit confused by the principal though, if a player is allowed to choose their own pacing, then shouldn't going out 5-6 before recalling be just as viable as 1-2 turns before recalling?
@@derrickhittson66 - Simlar to Dwellings of Edervale, when playing Andromedas Edge players will have to flex their strategy based on ho the game is playing out. It is not going to be a game where you can decide a specific strategy at the start and simply implement it in a rigid fashion like you may need to with other work placement games.
@@derrickhittson66 going out with 5-6 is not always as strong as 3-4 or even 1-2 ships, no. This may be counter intuitive to how some worker placement games function, but being asynchronous has an interesting effect here. Also, because you can use energy in regroups, you may pull back 1 ship, but have built up energy that can activate an entire row. So you can pull off big combos with low physical ships. Sometimes that armada is needed on the board, but if you're choosing between adding the 5th ship to get 1 energy on a moon vs pulling back 4 ships to fire all of your engine rows, the return to station can be what you need! So much fun to discover here in tactics and strategy.

If there is ever a player tray, please don't use the faction board as a lid. in DoE, the board are badly damaged due to the friction with the lock on the player tray after multiple playthrough. Please find other solution for it.
Not to worry - we're not doing that ever again. LOL. It was innovative for space reasons but did wear the boards. You know, in production, you gotta try things and art lids had not been done. With this new one, we'll try new things too with all the expertise from the past ones in play.
@@pvaughan007 art lids would have been fine if there were something like a plastic clip that slid onto the board where it would contact the tray and then never move and protect the cardboard from the extra wear. That would have cost more than just making the faction card fit in the tray over the other components and just having a normal lid though
I've put slightly watered glue on the edges of all boards and it hardened the cardboard to the point that there is no wear to be seen. I've played it dozens of times since, and no wear... can't recommend doing that enough. Of course though, if there is a solution that doesn't require us fixing it ourselves, that would be the best...
