Thank you so much beautiful. I was thinking how lucky you are to be able to see these dollhouses. Canada is a relatively young country and unfortunately we don't have much in the way of dollhouse museums. But I do sort of know you and you share with me. So I thank you very much. Enjoy your weekend.
My pleasure Tammy! I know I'm lucky to have so many miniatures only a relatively short drive away from my home. I'm happy to share these treasures with you in this small way. 😃
This tour was A TREAT! I find the tall glass windows, the staircase and deep landing, and the glass fitted interior doors, the most fascinating of the architectural features because they're so uniquely European. And the interior furnishing including the amazing collection of Original Artworks, give the viewers an uncanny sense that THIS house is still "breathing"- It's all Quite Wonderful!
Another wonderful video Josje , thank you, you have become a treasured part of my day when I can sit down with a cup of tea , and become mesmerized by your gentle happy voice and be inspired by everything miniature 💗
Thank you Josje. I really enjoyed seeing the footage of Den Hague, such a beautiful city. The detail on the outside of the dollhouse is my favourite, the down pipes and the roof are amazingly accurate for the period. Houses of that era were so grounded and solidly build ….loved it all!👏
Good morning Josje, your videos make me so nostalgic for our meanderings in the Netherlands. Mauritshuis is such a lovely museum, not overwhelming in size, a beautiful building reflected in the man made”lake”. What a pleasure to be able to explore this dollhouse with you, so many interesting details about the furniture and the origins of the paintings. Another treat for us, thank you Josje. J
You’re welcome! There used to be someone who organized tours like that. I can't remember exactly, American I think, Molly...? There are around 10 or so big museums that have a dollhouse in their collection, old ones and new ones, dotted around the country. And probably loads more that I don't know about (yet). And many others that have miniatures on display. 😃
Did I enjoy it? Tears of happiness are the answer! This is an incredible house, and as I adore Japanese rooms and furniture, I am particularly enamored of the tatami floor bedroom. I have a number of Japanese doll house size pieces, some like the Hina Matsuri tansu, others that are small jewelry chests. All the rooms are great, however, and the art studio is stunning!
Ah, glad to hear it Maroulio! Your Japanese pieces sound wonderful. I'll look out for Hinamatsuri furniture pieces! Or, as I mentioned in another comment, maybe I can make some myself from broken pieces of lacquerware... 😃
This was lovely! Thank you so much for taking us along! I love all of those paintings. I wish I could do that. And I can’t believe she was able to buy those things that weren’t even for sale, for just 1 pound😂 She must have been a fierce negotiator
Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could have famous artists contribute miniature paintings to our dollhouses? I would love that! There was a Dutch couple who ran a modern art gallery, who asked all the artists they represented (and others) to make miniatures for them. Not for a dollhouse and not 12th scale but still miniature. I saw an exhibition of them about 12 years ago, all important 20th-century artists, dozens of them. Fabulous! And those Japanese pieces, I cannot imagine how she managed to get those. I think she was a very independent and formidable woman. I wonder what the Japanese government thought when they heard the pieces they sent over had been sold. That tansu...I would love a piece like that. Maybe I should make something like that myself, with some scrap pieces of Japanese lacquerware maybe, like the firescreen that I made some time ago...
@@MakeMiniatures I would love to see you make that! And yes, they must have been a little bewildered that some of the pieces did not come home 😂 that must’ve been fabulous to see a whole exhibit of miniature paintings! I might have to try it. Maybe I could hold the canvas with a small embroidery hoop, or something like that? That way I can get right to the fun part instead of making stretchers and putting canvas on them
I have found an example of one I would love to copy in miniature, if I can find some lacquerware panels in the right scale. That would be a wonderful challenge! Good idea to use an embroidery hoop as a stretcher! But how would you display them? You'd have to make frames anyway I think?
@@MakeMiniatures I would have to make frames, but maybe I could only make them for the ones that looked good. Maybe I don’t have to reinvent the wheel. I should look and see if I can find any specific tutorials
That's a clever way of working! You could probably do several paintings within one canvas stretched on an embroidery hoop and cut out the ones you like best.
Thank you for sharing! I had to take a double look at the portraits in the dining room as one of them looked very much like one I have of a Herckenrath ancestor! The family lived not too far from where you were!
I have often wondered about that. I don't know. Those window cleaning pumps could spray up quite high, but then you can't wipe them. Maybe some dangerous dangling out of the other window was involved. Or really long ladders. 😃
I haven't seen Queen Elizabeth's dollhouses. I have been to Windsor Castle and visited Queen Mary's Dolls' House. That is a stunning dollhouse! Are Queen Elizabeth's dollhouses on show somewhere?
Beautiful❤
Thank you! 😃
Enchanting! Really appreciate you sharing this with people who cannot travel to your beautiful country!
My pleasure Dana! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 😃

Good to hear you liked the tour Elizabeth! I love the style of the house and the original artwork. Like I said, it is one of my favourite houses.

Thank you so much for sharing that. Now I really need a tour of the Netherlands to look at dollhouses!

Glad you enjoyed it Heather! Thank you 😃
Lovely video, not like any other dollhouse I've seen.
Thank you, I'm glad you like it! 😃

Enjoyed the tour so very much!
Thanks so much! 😃
Wonderful
Thank you! 😃
🎉hi hun , what a beautiful city 🎉
Thank you Dorothy! I don't go there often, but it is a beautiful city with several great museums. 😃
It is beautiful, you can tell that size was not picky back then. But some dusting needed I think.
Yes to both! 😂
Thank you for sharing! I had to take a double look at the portraits in the dining room as one of them looked very much like one I have of a Herckenrath ancestor! The family lived not too far from where you were!
You are so welcome! Oh, that sounds interesting! Do you know who painted your portrait? Maybe it is one of these artists or from the same school?
They are small (8x12?) charcoal/pencil like portraits and not signed. Sigh.
Oh that's a shame. Maybe they are studies for a larger picture. But you can enjoy them nonetheless 😃
That window cleaning pump is unusual and interesting. I wondered how they cleaned those high windows.
I have often wondered about that. I don't know. Those window cleaning pumps could spray up quite high, but then you can't wipe them. Maybe some dangerous dangling out of the other window was involved. Or really long ladders. 😃
What a beautiful dollhouse Josje, our late Queen Elizabeth owned some absolutely stunning dollhouses, have you ever seen any of them?, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧

@@MakeMiniatures that must be the one l was thinking of Josje, I thought it was the late Queen’s 🤦🏻💖
🎉id love to visit Denmark one day I have ancestors that were Danish 🎉
That's wonderful! Maybe you can join us all in Tune one day 😃
