I know izzy isn't the most beloved olympic mascot, but I love how unabashedly 90's this whole thing is, from his design, the entire special, even the ads are fascinating
I was just thinking recently on how it was lost media and hoped that someday someone who has a tape of this special will be able to upload it online. I thank you for being that person sir!
Seriously from the depths of my heart, thank you! I have been looking for this my whole life. Have not seen it since it aired. I can sleep easy tonight knowing this has been saved, and a good quality copy with commercials. I couldn't ask for more
This is a relic of a time when everyone was trying to get a slice of the mascot pie that Mario and Sonic (hah, get it?) baked in the early 90s to mid 00s. The Olympics still have Mascots today, but none will have the unique marketing and effort that Izzy got, even if said marketing and effort never paid off.
I saw this on Cartoon Network when i was 5 years old back in '95. And i even saw the bumper saying it's coming up next. I'm serious. I truly remembered that moment.
I doubt this'll come to pass (Even though I once said the same thing to myself about Animalympics), but, thanks to you, this might be the first step in getting a DVD of this. Izzy may've been done wrong, but, he's still a piece of Olympic history.
Why is the animation so flipping smooth?! EDIT: Also, I remember having a dream last week. It was of a animation test where Izzy would run into a nonexistent wall. I’m pretty sure Izzy was also missing the rings on his tail.
Thank you so much for posting this! I remember watching this on TV all the time when the Olympics was on TV since I lived in Atlanta and was looking everywhere for this!
Now if only somebody could find the other 50 episodes of the eagle sam anime and well have the entire olympics animated universe preserved for future olympic historians.
The story here is MUCH different than what I thought! I thought it might've been about Izzy, & his friends trying to retrieve the rings, & save the athletes so that the Olympics can happen.
Atlanta History Center uploaded a slightly better version of this a month earlier. It's unlisted, but it is on the page on their website for the Atlanta '96 collection.
This cost the Atlanta Olympic Committee hundreds of thousands of dollars. Izzy was so unpopular, that they had to beg TNT to broadcast it a few times, for free.
Since it was Phil Roman who produced this “lost media” surrounding then-Olympic mascot Izzy. I believe he was also in charge of another special that never reran again after its first airing: “Cartoon All Stars to the Rescue.”
YEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!! I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I COULD JUST HUG YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
People say that Izzy has nothing to do with Atlanta and I kinda say otherwise. It's the location of the HQ of Cartoon Network which was finally starting to put out original content. Izzy invokes the zaniest of 90s cartoons and I think it is fitting for modern Atlanta. I haven't seen anyone point this out.
26:00 I'm really not sure who this cartoon was made for. 18:17 It never, ever, stops smiling. It never, ever blinks. 11:15 This scene only exists so that we know they're nudists. Also, did this cartoon about the Olympics, just shame everyone for getting too competitive? o.o
Oh weird, I have the game version of this and was wondering wtf was the backstory. If the Sega Genesis game released based off this is rare, contact me and I'll send you the rom
Sam got a 51 episode animé in Japan known as "Eagle Sam". Unfortunately, only one episode is known to exist now and can be found on RUclips, essentially making the series lost media.
This should be training in any commercial art class. If you're working in art or graphic design or animation or business consultation, the people who call the shots are going to hire people churning out this garbage as they have no idea what good art is. These guys think they understand this stuff because they are business guys, but they are always going to think this is what sells their product rather than a gopher tortoise or barn owl or something less completely stupid.
I actually remember watching this shitty cartoon. I remembered the little details and of course, those details are present in this as I remembered them. Too bad this cartoon is still crap.

OMG! AT LAST!!! After years of finding Izzy's Quest for Olympic Gold as the lost piece of media, it's now available! Now I'm finally gonna see this!
I knew I wasn't crazy. I remembered this for so long and found it was lost media for ages.
Thank you so much for posting this! I remember watching this on TV all the time when the Olympics was on TV since I lived in Atlanta and was looking everywhere for this!
This is 2007 RUclips Poop worthy!
Oh, how I wish that "Izzy's Quest for Olympic Gold" be released on DVD!!!
15:50 I like how they poked fun at how divisive Izzy was IRL, though I'm pretty sure the majority were definitely wearing the yellow shirts.
This was very cool!
I loved how Izzy jumped over a high hurdle!
I love Olympic Mascots on TV!

I think that probably would've been more interesting
@@TheAlexSchmidt Certainly. That would've made for a better TV special than this.
And I though Rob Paulsen voiced Izzy when I say his name on the IMDB page.
He got a chance to try out in the Olympics but he didn't even appear in the opening ceremonies! XD
Because he SUCKED as a mascot.

This animation film was very special promoting the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta US
HOLY F***ING S**T!!! I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS SPECIAL IN YEARS!!!
The characters might have been just for the Atlanta games, but the virtues presented need to be represented in every Olympic Games
This looks like a parody of a 90s short you would see in Pinky and the Brain, not a real short that exists
What an old Olympic cartoon!
why does the green character at 3:20 looks like gossamer from the looney tunes?
I woke up in the middle of the night remembering this after not even thinking about it for 20 years and went on here to see if it was RUclips.
