Man, this video of yours make me wish I had paid more attention to this cicadas this summer, because there so much beauty to them than I realize! I loved your choice of music with your footage, it was the perfect contrast to the wave of sound the cicadas were producing in the background, it helped calm down a noise that so many people consider chaotic and undesirable. Some particular shots I really enjoyed:
-2:11, 2:32, 3:23, 3:36, 3:58 showcased the sheer number of them that is almost unfathomable. I feel like it gives me a proper picture of the locust plague in the Exodus story. It’s truly unbelievable.
-3:00 love the sunshine flare in the corner with the cicadas buzzing around in that poison hemlock (I think that’s that plant?🤔)
-4:17 DID THAT CICADA JUST PEE ON ANOTHER ONE? WHAT?!?!
-5:21 I feel like you completed their 17year circle of life well by that ending shot of them after time above the ground is done.
Well done, good sir!! This needs to be featured on Animal Planet! Can’t wait for the next one!!

They are beautiful and fascinating insects - and yes, annoying sometimes too, haha. The hardest part about editing this was trying to decide how to tame the sound. The cicada audio in the second half is cranked WAY down. It was so loud when I was recording it that my ears rang for an hour after I went back inside.
There was certainly a plague-like number of them. I've never seen anything like it!
You are correct about the poison hemlock 😉
And yes, that cicada did just pee on the other one, hahaha. You can see them peeing in several shots. And they peed all over me while I was standing beneath the trees. And in my eyes when I looked up. It's not urine, since cicadas don't have kidneys. But it's still the waste product from all the fluid they suck out of the trees. And they suck out a lot of it, haha!
Thanks for the kind words! I'm going to try to do more of these!

That was quite an invasion. We had a lot here in Indiana too. Beautiful video. You captured it beautifully

Thanks Nicole! It was a beautiful invasion indeed! I'm glad you got to experience it too, haha. It was like nothing else I've ever seen.

Oh my! How did I not see this until over 2 years later! This is a masterpiece 🎉cicadas are magnificent creatures. I so love hearing them when they come ❤❤ Summer o 2023 was awesome for lower Michigan. I certainly can't say that I'd enjoy being peed on by several though😂😅😂 Well done my son❤

Hey, thanks for checking out the back catalog! 😋 I loved our cicada invasion. I was out almost every day looking at them and sometimes getting my eyes peed in. Next time I want to get some footage of them coming out of the ground and emerging from their shells. Thanks Mom!
