The Fatal Frame 2 one was clever. On old TV's before HD flat screens, a still image could burn into the screen if left for too long and permanently damage your TV, so the developers had a little fun with that fact.
i was playing mortal kombat just like you, and it was the middle of midnight and i wanted to spend all my kredits, so i went to the crypt and i spent at least one hour there. i then look at my cheats i got, and i went to go leave the krypt, so i left it and the game froze for a few seconds then the thing jumped me and i was only a couple feet away and i fell back screaming o-o

do you know what the problem is? when you get a creepy easter egg on a creepy game, that's a part of the game's atmosphere. But a creepy easter egg on a normal game is just fucking terrifying. Cause you didn't expect it. And it was watching you alll the time.

Im still not sure why, but back when it was released, Doom3 scared the absolute hell out of me and it still does. The atmosphere, sounds and environment was amazingly well done. I still find the game visually 'prettier' than many recent titles today. But that bathroom scare. Holy hell. I remember that. A surefire way to make me panic-slam my keyboard to hit the escape button and fall out of my chair. Though amusingly I was edge-of-my-seat tense right at the beginning when I ~knew~ something was going to happen to that Scientist right when the 'invasion' starts. I think he got every single bullet I had before he even turned into a Zombie.

Metal Gear had alot of scary eastereggs. In the subsistance version of MGS2, you could play VR Missions, and one required you to hunt a ''ghost''. You were spawned into the underground area of the Ship in the Tanker level, and had to move a corpse on the ground into the one lit room by a light. Doing that, revealed a ghost hovering above the body, that you could photograph, and beat the mission. Scared the hell out of me as a kid.
I always extremely hated the Outlaws Easter Egg because I have a HUGE phobia of Aliens. I don't know why. When I saw that as a little kid I couldn't sleep at night.
Dell Conagher I mean stereotypical aliens with the big eyes and humanoid looks. I've played Half-Life, Doom; hell, i'm playing Dead Space right now. I'm just in Steam's web browser. It was more; when I was a kid it freaked me the hell out, but now it's not nearly as bad.
