Was going to try and fix one, after watching going to bring to shop. Thx for being honest about the troubles
NO high-tech digital camera, cordless mike, multiple viewing cameras, etc.? Luv it.....most of us can identify exactly with what you're showing, as we've done it or attempted to do it. I like these real-time/real-life videos......keep 'em comin'.
I agree.
When I see 'city folk' talk about how fun it must be living on a farm ... this kind of job that is real farming. You'll get it done!
Man! I think you did great! I've wrestled with a few rear tractor tires before. Never again!!. I'm taking them off. There going to the tire shop.
You always end the tire at the valve stem . As soon as I seen you hit with the hammer to push it in I knew it ripped. I've learned the hard way too.
When I changed tires I used dawn dishwashing liquid. That blue soap is super slick. A real workout there. Thanks for the video man!
Great video. Two things you could do to make the next change a lot easier. First, when you are removing the old tire, turn your pry bar around so that knob is against the rim instead of outward. Than you are using the tool the better way to remove the tire edge. The angle on the pry bar needs to get under the tire edge to grab it. The way you used it allows it to merely slip off the tire edge when you pry. Second make sure you thoroughly clean the rim edges of all rust and debris. And then lube it up well with the soap. And do the same to the tire edge as well. The slicker both are, the easier the effort. Thumbs Up!
It hurts my brain to watch him struggle because he's using the tools wrong!
@@carlreed3488 I had exactly the same pain. It almost looked like he was deliberately making it look harder than it should be.
You're wise beyond your years for wearing ear protection
Agree
Thats 2 things chucky never forgets to wear, ears and eyes.
What??
Well done. I think this is the first RUclips video that accurately shows what a first timer can expect when trying to change a tractor tyre (UK spelling).
I’ve just spent half a day just getting the old, rust encrusted one off and refurbing the inner dish of the wheel rim (and my tyre levers dented the wheel rim too).
Can’t wait until I come to fit the new tyre. 🤣
And yes, you can just pay the professionals to do it for you, but it costs more and you learn nothing!
Nice one
I’m just imagining the smell of your garage, Amigo. The smell of gear oil & diesel, mixed with clean fresh countryside air.
I love your place by the way. But I feel like you need a little more working room there for yourself.
If u get a tire more stubborn then that. Push the bead in the initial spot put large nuts or spacers of some kind between the tire and the lip of the wheel on the bead seat of the wheel then reposition the bead breaker and push in the new spot.
18.4-34 was a very common tires size in the 60s and 70s.
I have that bead buster. It works great IF you can get it started. Some tires have protective raised rub layers next to the rum and you cannot get the bead buster under the rim to get started.
No experience with tires this size, but I was thinking about what you said, how tires harden up. That thing was so old, it probably had lost all of it's elasticity, making the removal process WAY harder.
Loved the “getting the new tire on” noises. Sounds like an old man getting out of bed to pee at 3am. Don’t ask me how I know this.
🤣🤣🤣
I am a guy who watched a guy that watched a guy change a tractor tire. 😁 You made it interesting though. One tip from doing a lot of truck tires. Lube lube lube when taking off and removing. There can't be too much lube. Silicone lube works great but you can buy a gallon of tire lube that relatively cheap.
Lots of good content. You sure can build a channel. Right on brother
Classic Chucky2009 🤟
Man, that was a workout!!
If you push the bead in and let the jack down, it will let the bead to come over the top much easier.
bro lol use the damn pry bar the right direction and it works, killin me smalls
A 4' drilling bar and a t post driver helps break the bead
And tire shine gel works a charm for making old dry rubber slip
At least you will have material to make a whole bunch of industrial rubber bands from those inner tubes! Great video Chucky thumbs up.
When fitting tires with tubes you always start at the valve and finish at the valve. also use plenty of soap. Good video. Best wishes
Reminds me of the old days worken for the rubber man, breakin down truck tires, split rings. Fun times.
Great content. You have one of the most interesting channels on YT. I look forward to the reposting of vids you for some reason had to take down. Take care.
A bit of gasoline on the bead will soften the rubber to help break the bead. This helps more also though when the tire is laying down but In this case a bit towards the top will run down and help some. Doesn’t take much.
I just did mine, I was dreading it, but it went so well and I had no issues 🤷🏽♂️
And always put the srem at the bottom when you go on with it
Chuck you single handedly made that look very hard !!! And it is not that hard to do !! You use the jack and the tractor to your advantage!!!
😊👍🌎🌞👍👍👍👍
Valve stem always on the bottom- keeps it from ruining it as you work the tire on. Also rema makes a replacement valve stem system.
Lots and lots and lots of soap.....everything goes wayyyyyy smoother!
You did about everything wrong that could be done wrong. Great learning experience!
Doing it the hard way my friend 😂
Wow that was rewarding 👏 🙌 👌
Tractor should have been more in the open to start with . Those tire irons are ok..but I use the ken-tool 52 inch x one inch diameter bars...the curved end has a deeper curve for the bigger beads and don't slip out as easy..they aren't cheap..about $150 each last time I looked...but worth every penny . I literally have done thousands of tires.. mostly semi tires..but done them all..and those are the irons I prefer..and I've tried all sorts of variations . Dish soap is ok...but it dries quickly..use a tire mounting lube..it stays wet longer than soap.
Vaseline works good as tire lube, you didn't use nearly enough, you need to put some on the inside of the rim and also lots on the tire beads, and also you always start and end by the Valve or you will tear it out while prying by it. Also sometimes you were fighting against the bead with the pry bar, where it was sloped down away from the rim instead of sloped to try and pry it onto the rim, likely the reason you had so much trouble, I've also found crow bars work fairly good aswell if you need something shorter or just need another pry bar while one is still stuck in the bead
That’s what I’ve learned to use on our lawn tractor tires.
Some things are money well spent by taking it to pro's that not only have the right tools but a lot of experience! If your time is worth much then you either will break even or come out ahead and they are responsible for the tubes and tire if they tear it up. But I'm old and bought the same experience you are going through, wish I had listened when I was told this same thing..........
Probably not gonna see this as it’s been over a year since you posted this, however I’ve been a tire technician for years and you could’ve had this done in no time if you had flipped your bars around. The side you were using is mostly for semi tire dismounting, not effective for anything else. The stem tore off the tube because you mounted the tire right over it. The last place you bar when mounting should be near the valve stem and not one bar sooner. Like I said idk if you’ll see this but I hope this helps someone. Good work though, I wouldn’t have gotten this far without any experience on the job. All about the technique not strength!
I only really use that side of the bar when I'm mounting tyres back on rims. For dismounting I use two Michelin Halte levers that have a thin tapered end.
Think your using tire tool backwards..
Wow the draw bar has seen a lot of work
Here's a BIG tip for you, When you first break the bead you have to lube the bead area with a slime solution so the rubber wont hang up on the rim as you are removing the tire.
GO GETTEM CHUCKY Bill
Next time when you have the rim free put some lupe or grease to help it of and on the rim
1. Should have wire brushed the rim to clean all the rust away.
2. Lube the tire bead and rim just before inflating. (shaving cream works great but someone may have a better choice)
3. Tubeless if you can or use a tube if you must.
JMHO
Time to call Steve! 👍🙂
It's certainly possible to pull that outer bead over before breaking the rear bead. When trying to get that first part of the outer bead over the rim you want to kick the bottom of the tyre so the other side of the same bead drops into the well.
Used one of those many times if it won’t break the bead the first couple of times just move it down the rim to a different spot a few times and pretty soon it will break loose with no hammering.
Nice but it looks smaller on the back side of the tire.. but nice job. Well done 👍🏾 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Valve stim is first to take out.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It makes me wonder if I should try to replace the leaking tube on my only tractor, a 1947 Farmall H?
man I feel you struggle, I changed car/truck tires kinda the same way and those are not easy, those tractor tire sidewalls look stiff as cement sucks you spent all that time only to tear the tube.
After you replace about 5 tires you well be a pro, remember to take small bits when prying the side of tire over rim, you are doing good.
That tire you took off, was older than you are. Take the old tube & air it up when you go the lake. Have fun.
Hiya Lance
Just don't forget your what's when you do this again haha
You should use soap and water or tire lube
Find dealers that have take offs / farmer didn't like tread pattern or brand on his new piece of equipment and wants something else.Dealer replaces them and stacks them somewhere good deals can be found .round. and hold air.....
The way I buy tires 18.4 x 38 is I go to farm auctions and look to see if thy have any that will fit my tractors some times you can find a good deal on new ones there or good used ones I found at one auction I paid 600.00 for a brand new set of 4 18.4 x 38.
Pry off the axle. You could even lock the opposing brake and put the tractor in low and let the bar hit the floor and it will remove itself.
the problem is not the rim, its the years of the tire.
I have been there and done that I put the intertub in backwards took mine to tier shop had a new value stem put in I have done this to two tunes I got in a hurry.
Can you give me a description of the app? I’m have trouble finding it
Hi, Do you know where i could find a used good 16.9 R 38 tire? Thanks
There's a releaf ring one side of bead goes in ring other side pops over lip of rim .Practice Practice practice ....
U need to start at the bottom of the tire and work your way up cause the tire hangs on the rim it'll be easier to get it started. But man I changed 2 tires from 1970s and let me u you will learn some new cus words on them especially if u don't have a manual bead breaking witch i didn't i do know though
sorry i do find for my self struggle with a tire was not with my time like you struggle with projects need to tie up one at a time pick one and finish it and pick another one after the first one was done I have a starting date and a finish date to have a project done too
What's up
lube...lots of lube helps with angry tires.
That inner bead did seem to be somewhat stubborn coming off the rim.
Hi
I wish i could type better- it would make me sound more like a north texas boy.
Come on Chuck you can be honest how many times did you curse and swear trying to get that tire off.
Make sure you know how to use the bars properly and have a good grip, you'll have bruised ribs for sure if you don't. Tireguy by trade (35 plus years and still going strong) I tell the young bucks all the time (no lube no love, or my other saying if you love it lube it) simple as I can put it,believe me they understand it, use your mind not your muscle, cause at the end of the day you will know what you should have used first. It is all about your procedure and how you go about it. I do mining tires and believe me they dwarf Anything compared to them. Use alot of lube on and off ,can't say it enough. Good luck on the right rear, you learned from your first mistakes, next time the last bite with your bar should end at your stem or really close to it,it will not tear your stem.
not sure but maybe the tire needs to be mounted from the other side
Spray pam on tire

Always start opposite of the valve stem
the thing you need to do use more soap to water and spray all the way around the bead
I used soap & water before going to Vaseline.
I’m still confused of what happened to your old channel. I thought you died or something when I didn’t see videos put out for like a year
Dish soap and water would go a long way here.. .
Tire looks like it comes off from the other side of the rim
Brazilian rubber is the best.
….and who needs a gym, when you can wrestle large tractor tires off of those wheels.
If the tire has tread and doesn't lose air or go flat. Then what is the point of changing them? I dont' get the obsession with changing things that aren't broken.
That did not look fun at all, thanks for the lesson !
large tractor tire....yes. Giant tractor tire.....not hatdly!!!!!!!!
Old timers use brake fluid too softened the bead.
Good information! Thanks!
Yeah, that didn't look all that enjoyable.
Are you just reposting your old videos
All of they above
Dude, loose the loud pounding music. Just turn it down some please!
Hope you font bust ur floor
THIS GUY HAS NO CLU HOW TO CHANGE A TRACTOR TIRE.......
Did you think of using Dynamite 😅?!
I have a Casd 830 with adjustable rims and they're rotted off so I need to replace rims and tire plus ( no doubt the tube) think you',re too close to ground for tire to move. Have to do both. Groan.whered u get bead buster?? How much$$$? Dandahermit
🫣 Hurts to watch but I’ve been there before
