Interestingly, my small town dentist was the very first person to mention the word pemphigus to me as I struggled to get a diagnosis for my terrible mouth sores. I don't remember how many doctors I consulted in my exhaustive efforts to get help. My journey and this video reaffirm the importance of dentists being more aware of what to look for and the appropriate questions to ask. I remain eternally grateful that I have enjoyed remission since 2009.

I have had the most amazing early detection and treatment experience thanks to my sweet nerd of a dentist who really enjoyed his pathology classes in dental school and has kept aware of things to watch for. He had a strong hunch, referred me to the pros at UCSF Oral Medicine, and I had a biopsy and diagnosis, and began successful treatment within four months of first symptoms.
Awareness and early detection saves people from pain and suffering, or worse!
