Absolutely mate. I remember watching the ads on TV in the early 80's and if I was lucky enough the TV would stop rolling long enough for me to see the whole ad. 🤣. The first time I saw RC's doing wheelies were TV ads of the Marui Super Wheelie and Big Bear, so had to have one! My brother had a Super Wheelie which I ended up with, but a new one didn't actually happen for me until I was 30 years old but I got them in the end. 😁👍

Hmm Kyosho pickup, sounds like the Stepside, pretty rare now. I remember wanting a nitro RC forever, finally got one also in my 30's and was impressed with the power and sound but was equally disappointed with the reliability issues. Ah the Clod, now I think I see where your love for RC monster trucks came from. Your channel rocks, love the jumps and custom truck builds. 😎👍

RC Hobby Shed should have set here maybe next week!!?? I have good a quality shock tool, from Tekno that is good for inserting balls into the cups before they are on a turnbuckle. But nothing as tidy to remove or insert ready made turnbuckles. Looking forward to using them. Thanks for the tip 👍🤓🇦🇺

Gday Mick , im getting there slowly but surely with the legends series i just bought the Tomahawk myself and got it at a great price also bought the beetle and scorpion last month so yeah im so loving these kits and now chasing another 5-6 kits in the Kyosho Range but love your build videos and the running ones mostly is whats inpspiring me to buy these besides the lust of these growing up as a teenager in the 80's these where way of my reach but now im planning on owning the LOT ha ha , oh well its my poison these RC cars and planes just lov'em thanks again mick for great content cheers:-))

Thanks! I think the Kyosho kits are better quality than a lot of Tamiya kits. You can just feel it in the build. Plus the Kyosho kits come with ball bearings in the kit. The Tomahawk or any of the Kyosho Legendary Series would be great to go with the Sand Scorcher. 👍
Hi there, having watched your vids again on the Tomahawk, I ordered up a kit (took a while to find one, as it was sold out pretty much everywhere). I'd like to spray up the kit body for shelf duties and get another shell, poss a repro, for running. Can you tell me if a normal rear engine Optima (not Turbo) body will fit the Tomahawk, and also the Kyosho Triumph body (that you have on your Ultima Special)? I can get both cheaply as repros, so if they do fit (don't mind having to do some minor fettling) they'd be a great option for me. Thanks.
G'day! Awesome, glad to hear you got a Tomahawk, they're a nice buggy. Just now I did try both bodies on my Tomahawk. The Triumph body I guess could be made to fit but it really looks bad on the Tomahawk. It's not long enough at the back and too narrow at the front, just looks wrong. The Optima body on the other hand is a very close fit and actually looks great on the Tomahawk. The Optima body may just need some trimming as it sits on the motor guard at the back. Also, you won't need to cut out the front of the body for the shock tower as the Tomahawk is much wider. If it was me, I'd go for the Optima body for sure! 👍

Basically cut the old tyres off and trim the leftover glue and rubber off the wheels with a knife. Or use Acetone to clean the leftover glue off. Sometimes you can put them in hot water and you can pull the tyres off, CA glue hates heat, but you don't want to boil them otherwise the wheels might warp. 👍
This is going to be the first kit I'm going to build myself. Do you put loctite on all the screws? What was that lube you put on the spur and pinion? What weight oil did you put in the shocks?
Nice. It's a great buggy to build. I didn't use anything special during the build. The grease and oil I used are supplied in the kit and applied as per the instructions. As for thread lock, I only used it on two front link balls as the instruction indicate. You could use thread lock in many more areas on the buggy but I didn't as mine isn't really going to get a lot of use. Hope this helps, enjoy your build! 🙂👍

Thanks mate. The Deans makes motor swapping quicker, or just for easy maintenance 👍. As far as that servo, they aren't bad for the price I guess. I've used about 8-10 of them so far and only had one that was very slow going in one direction, they seem ok for centering though. Keep in mind this buggy won't get a lot of use, if you plan to run it often, I'd spend a bit extra on a better servo. 👍

PS2 for the red paint on the body? Driver looks great, getting ready to paint the body on a Turbo Scorpion and was hesitant to use brushes with polycarbonate paint because I was thinking it would leave streaks. On yours it don’t seem to leave brush streaks...what’s the secret?
Yeah PS2. I backed mine with silver, it made it a tad darker. Backing with white might be a better option. It will pop a bit more. Using brushes with polybarb paint works fine, as long as it's thick enough (as in enough coats) you won't see any streaks from the outside. In the 80's all we had was polycarbonate paints in jars and had to either use a brush or an airbrush, never had any issues using a brush. These days if I want to use a brush and I only have a spray can, I spray it into the lid of the can and brush it on from there. 👍
Thanks. Yeah, the are much the same. The only real difference is the Tomahawk has the radio deck style setup on top of the chassis rails whereas the Scorpion has a tub, also on top of the chassis rails.
Just had one more question: I’m restoring a Tamiya Fox, original and wanted to re-paint the Lexan body as 30 year old paint has flacked in a few spots. What method of paint removal from Lexan do you use? Cheers
@@G3516dude My current method is to soak the body in Methoxypropanol PM, it can be found on eBay. I've also had good results using Tamiya Paint Remover but it will take some rubbing. Nitro fuel also works well too and I have heard a lot of people are now using a product called Carson Paint Killer, although I've not tried it. Hope his helps! 👍
The Scorpion and Tomahawk chassis are pretty cool and work fairly well, but the shocks are TERRIBLE !!... I wish Proline would make a shock short enough to use on them.

The Vintage KO shows are beautiful kits lots of metal just like the late 70s early 80s kids from Tamiya lots of metal.
I have a tomahawk and I use the same receiver and ESC but with 15t brushed motor

Basically cut the old tyres off and trim the leftover glue and rubber off the wheels with a knife. Or use Acetone to clean the leftover glue off. Sometimes you can put them in hot water and you can pull the tyres off, CA glue hates heat, but you don't want to boil them otherwise the wheels might warp. 👍

This is going to be the first kit I'm going to build myself. Do you put loctite on all the screws? What was that lube you put on the spur and pinion? What weight oil did you put in the shocks?
Nice. It's a great buggy to build. I didn't use anything special during the build. The grease and oil I used are supplied in the kit and applied as per the instructions. As for thread lock, I only used it on two front link balls as the instruction indicate. You could use thread lock in many more areas on the buggy but I didn't as mine isn't really going to get a lot of use. Hope this helps, enjoy your build! 🙂👍

Thanks mate. The Deans makes motor swapping quicker, or just for easy maintenance 👍. As far as that servo, they aren't bad for the price I guess. I've used about 8-10 of them so far and only had one that was very slow going in one direction, they seem ok for centering though. Keep in mind this buggy won't get a lot of use, if you plan to run it often, I'd spend a bit extra on a better servo. 👍

PS2 for the red paint on the body?
Driver looks great, getting ready to paint the body on a Turbo Scorpion and was hesitant to use brushes with polycarbonate paint because I was thinking it would leave streaks. On yours it don’t seem to leave brush streaks...what’s the secret?
Yeah PS2. I backed mine with silver, it made it a tad darker. Backing with white might be a better option. It will pop a bit more.
Using brushes with polybarb paint works fine, as long as it's thick enough (as in enough coats) you won't see any streaks from the outside. In the 80's all we had was polycarbonate paints in jars and had to either use a brush or an airbrush, never had any issues using a brush.
These days if I want to use a brush and I only have a spray can, I spray it into the lid of the can and brush it on from there. 👍

Awesome build video & a beautiful buggy! I’m tossing up between the Scorpion or the Tomahawk. Are the platforms the same?
Thanks. Yeah, the are much the same. The only real difference is the Tomahawk has the radio deck style setup on top of the chassis rails whereas the Scorpion has a tub, also on top of the chassis rails.
Just had one more question: I’m restoring a Tamiya Fox, original and wanted to re-paint the Lexan body as 30 year old paint has flacked in a few spots. What method of paint removal from Lexan do you use?

@@G3516dude My current method is to soak the body in Methoxypropanol PM, it can be found on eBay. I've also had good results using Tamiya Paint Remover but it will take some rubbing. Nitro fuel also works well too and I have heard a lot of people are now using a product called Carson Paint Killer, although I've not tried it. Hope his helps! 👍
Is the Le Mans 490 the same size as a 540 or is it bigger or smaller?

The Scorpion and Tomahawk chassis are pretty cool and work fairly well, but the shocks are TERRIBLE !!... I wish Proline would make a shock short enough to use on them.
