- Hey everyone, thanks for watching. This day could have been a nightmare, but as I always say - it's all about that attitude! Instead of tucking my tail between my legs when my boat lost steering, I figured I would just change my plans.
And WOW did it work out!? What you are about to see is about as raw and unedited as I can do on this channel. This is 45 minutes of non-stop speckled trout action.
I can't believe how easy and effortless this was. I hope y'all have as much fun watching as I did making this for you.
Thanks for watching as always.

Im glad you got to experience this, great memory and confidence builder!
Sorry I didn't see this comment. Yeah you'll see in the next video how this trip informed how I handle these types of situations. It's all about attitude, that can make or break any trip.
Thanks for watching my man!
Top water bites are the best. Sorry to hear about your steering cable, seems like you still made a great day out of it. 💪🏾
Never can tell about those trout! Fun day and some beautiful trout!
Yes indeed. And hey, now I get to learn how to install hydraulic steering 😅
I just put a vevor kit on my boat. 260 off of amazon. Took a couple of hours to install. Wish id done it a long time ago.
Damn birds, can't ever keep a secret. I'll catch part 2 after I finish making Jambalaya. Great show son!
Love them birds!
same thing for me down in pac on the 24th, but you got more keepers. it was nonstop though, for about 2 hours that morning.
Yeah this has been a banner year so far. Let's hope it keeps up.
So that spot is 7 miles by boat from hopedale marina. Did you troll all the way back?
Pretty much. I trolled from there through Lena and when Lena opened up I turned on the outboard and used the trolling motor to steer. I kept it slow, about 5-7 mph. Took about 2.5 hours, fishing along the way obviously.
Once home I checked the trolling motor mount for damage and reapplied 5200. My hydraulic steering came in today so hopefully I'll be back on the water in a week or so.
👍
The steering cable going out must have sucked At least you caught fish I never had that happen but i did lose forward gears had to get home in reverse Not having to run far is fun to I bought bait one day never started the big motor put the trolling motor down and got our limit in specks Be safe man
Yeah it still sucks haha. I think it was the helm actually but I'm just gonna go with hydraulic steering. You're right though, if you can get action like this close to the marina, that's always a winning ticket.
Great video. What kind of top water bait is that?
It is a Rebel Pop-R. If you want to try it, here's a link to what I was using. I always take the trebles off and use inline hooks instead. amzn.to/4cqOoPB
@@catchyalater thanks for the info and the link. what’s the reason for using the inline hooks? What kind and size of in line hooks do you use?
@@catchyalater Is that the 1/4oz silver/black popper that you use?
@@GrassBandit Yeah I was using the 1/4oz in that silver/black. But honestly, anything would've worked on that day.
I use inline hooks because they're easier on the fish and also me. I don't find that I land significantly more with trebles, but I'm in much greater danger of hooks hooking me, and if you're catching small ones they're much more likely to be lethally wounded.
I think I use 2/0 on that lure, been a while since I added them though. Just try to match the general size of the trebles you replace.
@@catchyalater Thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it. I’m gonna order some to try out. Keep on making the videos, you are doing a fine job!
Shame about the steering cable, but great to see the fish were BITING!
Yeah certainly puts a shine to a bad situation.
Did you mind the size change? Great Vids
Thanks man. I'm not sure what you mean by size change.
@@catchyalater trout was 12” now 13” just curious where you stand on that, no worries brother fish on 😎
Ahh I see. Sorry man, been traveling. Yeah I don't mind it at all. In terms of how much meat I bring home, I don't see any difference at all and as you can see in my second to last video, a lot more are being released than would have last year. So it seems like it'll do what it's intended to do.
We also finally got better, not quite good, news on pogey boats too so I would say things are heading in a decent direction for now.
Hello from Florida 👍🌴I purchased a new 2072 grizzly w/150 mercury and went to Delacroix. Running in the marsh the steering locked up which when I brought the boat to BP they told me the cable was bent which damaged the steering housing. They replaced the cable and the housing. I will be heading back to louisiana in October to give it another try. Any suggestions on where to go for speckle trout and red fish? Im open to suggestions. Enjoyed the video..have a great week. 👍🇺🇸🙏
No suggestions for where to go, they're always moving. I also haven't been on the water since this video so I would have to search the next time I go out too. That said, I think the last two videos show what to do. Look for bait first, looking for feeding activity second. If you find bait but don't get bites, leave and rinse repeat. Good luck man, let me know how it goes.
Hopedale Lena lagoon or Campo's Marina anywhere in Shell Beach
@@wayfararout6258 thanks 👍🇺🇸
