It beggars belief that BBC were still filming from behind the batsman in 1988.

Gordon Greenidge is one of the two best players of the square cut I've ever seen. The other is Robin Smith. Interesting that they were both at Hampshire, and thus Smith probably learned a lot from Greenidge...

It's amazing how primitive the camera work was in 1988 compared to just 5 years later in the early/mid 1990s. In Australia they were a lot more advanced with camera angles and filming, with for example the side-on camera actually following the ball from the bowler's hand to the batsman. They didn't start doing that in England until 1990.

Whenever I see a fast (or any) bowler bowl a short ball on Richards leg side and he hits it for four, I remember the words of Jim Laker from 1976: "And it's given the same sort of treatment." Why wasn't Mr. Laker doing this series, I wonder?

Originally it was ""Next Botham" syndrome (see also DeFreitas, Craig White, Ronnie Irani...), but you think they'd have given up on him by 1988. Did have his moments in 1991 though.

Very self-effacing and amusing if you read his 'Pushing the boundaries' book. Covers his Test career.
