Even after over 16 years of listening to black metal and hundreds or thousands of bands from black metal and sub genres this is still one of my favorite albums of all time. 16 years is not much to some of you die hards but my passion for black metal is for eternity and wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Just from clicking on the video suggestions this is the 3rd (new-to-me) awesome album in a row I've listened to, the other 2 being Bergtatt by Ulver and Nordavind by Storm. What great music!
A segunda geração do Black metal Norueguês é simplesmente perfeita! Os anos 90 ficaram para trás há muito tempo mas deixaram um acervo enorme de bons discos.
For me, from the very beginning when I first discovered Norwegian Black Metal in the mid 90's, albums like this one and others such as In The Nightside Eclipse, Hrdanes Land, For All Tid, Dark Midieval Times, and a few others from that time, are the TRUE sound of Black Metal. Modern Black Metal surely lost the feeling and effectiveness of simple and atmospheric.
THE BEST OF THE ALBUM: 2:05, 6:05, 8:57, 10:00, 13:26, 15:50, 16:30, 22:12, 25:06 GEHENNA---> A YEAR BEFORE SATYRICON POST "DARK MEDIEVAL TIMES", 2 YEARS BEFORE EVOL POST "The Saga of the Horned King", 1 YEAR BEFORE ISENGARD POST "Vinterskugge" GEHENNA ARE THE FIRST IN THE MEDIEVAL BLACK METAL ???
Right - if you forget, that "dark medieval times" was also released in 1994, that Enslaved also existed years before, and that Bathory invented the genre already in the late 80s.
Ach, 1:23. Still after 22 years, sends shivers down my spine. The double-bass, the organ, and that fucking evil voice. Very, very good. 2:55 - /me turns up the volume.
They are under the radar, also check out bands like Akerbeltz from Spain, Xibalba from Mexico, there are tons of under the radar bands that never got too much attention as the 2nd wave BM bands you just mentioned.
That is a bit weird actually... haha :D I heard of them but for some weird reason didn't listen to it thoroughly until I got into Orcustus and Djevel. And Dirge Rep was the drummer in all three bands so I gave it a shot. Fucking legend.
With "Conquering of Hirshir" as ringtone, people around just stare with open mouths when I get a call ;) This album was simply love at first listening.
Adult contemporary easy listening black metal, haha! Smooth as silk. Majestic! Black metal that will calm the nerves and relax you. Probably never heard that before.
i totally forgot about this album, i remember listening to it when i was just getting started on black metal and had an unquenchable thirst for listening to anything (and i mean ANYTHING) i could get my hands on. this is the perfect amount of everything, it may not be similar to the black metal i usually listen to but i feel a certain gothic air to this that draws me in. i'm genuinely so happy i stumbled into this again ♡♡
Typed in Gehenna for Slipknot, accidently clicked on this instead...best mistake I've ever made haha, I am now a black metal fan! Can anyone give me the goods for recommendations please? I need more! ;D

Finding comfort in solitude, darkness and soothing the pain from living in the modern world
I still miss the golden era of true norwegian black metal!
How so? you have all the cd's to listen to .
@@darklord1134 I think he's saying he wishes modern releases had that same quality.
Good black metal is fucking dead. It died already in the 90s.
I miss the age and the partys.
Burzum at nowadays is something that's far out
Even after over 16 years of listening to black metal and hundreds or thousands of bands from black metal and sub genres this is still one of my favorite albums of all time. 16 years is not much to some of you die hards but my passion for black metal is for eternity and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

almost 30 years of listening to bm.... this is one of the best albums. Too bad they changed after few albums.
I get why people praise Gehenna so much, quality listening
Surprisingly laid back for black metal, has a certain groove to it along with the excellent organ work.
Diamond NightFury it has a bit of a retro, psychedelic sound, I think; ur.right, that organ is great
Its one of a kind !
Black Metal is the most beautiful Genre's of music there is!!
Atmospheric Black Metal is great stuff. Check out Summoning.
It has a very warm, cheerful feel to it
One of the top 10 black metal albums,,, ever!
The Shivering Voice of the Ghost is one of the most classic black metal tune ever released!

Third track is magical and haunting. Always have it stuck in my head lately.
+KlatrymadonAF This whole album has a magic sound that separates it from the rest at that time. Dark and melodic, but never cheesy.
First heard it on a compilation 💿 called Women in Extreme Metal.Always loved her organ sound.Haunting
This band is so underrated.
A masterpiece of the black metal Music
Love this music born into the black it is one piece that has followed me in my years since it came out one very well done piece of music

Gehenna - True Norwegian Black Metal.
Those were the days.
This sounds like the perfect album to introduce my friends to black metal !
Yeah I've also always liked it like being one of the best black-metal albums ever. Especially those virtuoso keyboards
Que buena banda, que buen álbum, ambiente oscuro, medieval.. esos teclados son terribles, muy bueno 🤘🏼💀
still amazing and one of best artworks ever!
Yeah thats rich
Covenant - In times before the light
@ROOTSCONTRA not gonna lie but dark medieval times feels inspirationless too at times
@ROOTSCONTRA why you think emperor are shit? is it because they didn't wear makeup?
Thanks, Grandpa. I swear nobody gatekeeps quite like metal fans.
Morningstar has such a haunting intro. Awesome.
Fantastic and symphonic Black Metal!! Great!!
THE BEST OF THE ALBUM: 2:05, 6:05, 8:57, 10:00, 13:26, 15:50, 16:30, 22:12, 25:06

Troll, Covenant, Mayhem, Immortal, Emperor - around the same time - but they recorded late... almost forgot: enslaved
Mr.ROKKO don't forget Master's Hammer and the your first album.
COVENANT!
Right - if you forget, that "dark medieval times" was also released in 1994, that Enslaved also existed years before, and that Bathory invented the genre already in the late 80s.
don't forget about vanilla ice, boys II men, en vogue, hanson, and silverchair
I Love this style. Super Black and Gothic and lot of melancholy. Thx
Decades later...still gives me goosebumps..true black metal at it's finest \m/
Ach, 1:23. Still after 22 years, sends shivers down my spine. The double-bass, the organ, and that fucking evil voice. Very, very good.

@@maikelpenninx8418 Shivers and tingling, literally. Serious ASMR effects.
i think the music is really malevolent, it has a dark soul, thats why i love it so much
ill never forget this grimness for all my days of existence
Weird how i have been listening to Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone etc...since around 1994 and never heard of these guys until November 2018. Lmao
and they are norwegian too!!
They are under the radar, also check out bands like Akerbeltz from Spain, Xibalba from Mexico, there are tons of under the radar bands that never got too much attention as the 2nd wave BM bands you just mentioned.
