    Thx to GM Danya for his insights about the “why” behind the opening moves. Even as a beginner I’m getting the flavor of common relationships (weak king bishop’s pawn attacked by knight & bishop, pinned pawns, meeting a nasty-looking threat with a solid counter threat, etc.).
    So the value of GM Danya’s content isn’t dependent on whether I’ll ever play the Baltic or the Chigorin. For me it’s following the reasoning involved because it helps me understand more 🙏

  • @andrew_owens7680
    @andrew_owens7680 3 года назад +3

    It's amazing in chess how one line leads to another. I play a lot of Scandi, but that sometimes leads to French or Gruenfeld. I play a lot of King's Gambit which in certain positions can transpose to Vienna. Now I see exactly how this opening relates to the Modern variation of Scandi.

    • @luiscarrasco603
      @luiscarrasco603 3 года назад

      How a scandinavian transpose to a grunfeld?? Grunfeld Main lines looks for a strong Center, scandi Main lines you exchange the e pawn. Something really wrong should have happened there.

    • @andrew_owens7680
      @andrew_owens7680 3 года назад

      @@luiscarrasco603 The Modern line is quite different from other lines. If the d pawn doesn't get exchanged it can end up something closed like a queen pawn opening. Granted I'm not a high rated player, so I will research what you are saying. It's also possible my opponents chose a bad line. Thanks.

    • @andrew_owens7680
      @andrew_owens7680 3 года назад

      @@andrew_owens7680 as far as i know, advancing the e pawn in move 2 (to not trade it) is bad for white, since it would lead to a very favorable french with the light square bishop out for black.

    • @andrew_owens7680
      @andrew_owens7680 3 года назад

      @@luiscarrasco603 I used to try to force Scandi players into a French when playing white with e5, but that doesn't work as the Bf4 is advantageous to black. Now I play the very trappy Tennyson Gambit with a very good record. Let it be noted that I'm playing bullet and blitz and that if I were playing tournaments over the board, my strategy would be entirely different.

I have think alot about trying to understand openings, how can i get help with that when i study solo? u said that on a grundfeld video
    Thanks for your videos, i am currently a club player at around 1800 and looking to get to 2000.

    • @KnightToRemember
      @KnightToRemember 3 года назад +1

      The Chigorin’s aggressive nature is the perfect opening to punish those who don’t follow theory as you can see the center dies pretty fast but I don’t think it’s very effective because I learned how to get an advantage against the Chigorin and how to refute the Baltic when I was 1100. If you play a more positional opening like the Queen’s Indian then punishing mistakes will take longer. The easy answer is to ask yourself “the book move is good because it does this, now this square is not covered and I can jump there with my Knight (or smth like this)” but I find this a bit unsatisfactory, a better answer is to study more theory! You must not only study the book moves but also think what you would personally do in this position as your opponent if you had no knowledge of theory, if you use this method you will often have an advantage in the opening
