    May I inquire. Why do chess players always refer to a lost Rook as "full" but hardly ever refer to a lost bishop as a full bishop or a pawn as a full pawn. Bearing is mind that in chess, you can't lose half a rook 😛

    • @spartanthe300ththermopylae4
      @spartanthe300ththermopylae4 3 года назад +4

      It's because you can lose an exchange, and then you've not lost "a full rook". They also say when they are down a minor piece for, say, a pawn or 2 pawns. So, in that case, they've not lost a full piece.

    • @theguy9067

    • @rosebud3373
      @rosebud3373 3 года назад +3

      Well, to be honest, you would still say a full rook if the compensation were 1 or 2 or 3 pawns if they are not a huge and dangerous majority or protected passed pawns.
      I feel like a full rook is to mean you didn't lose a knight or a bishop for it (you would yes say quality then), while if there's no material compensation, you would say a "clean" rook, just as you'd say a clean knight (maybe it's called a "clear" piece and not a "clean" one, not so sure, I struggle with english) ; in french you'd say une "pièce nette" = a "clean piece".
