Amazon's Fresh new grocery store: Is it the future?

  • I went inside the first Amazon Fresh retail store, located in Woodland Hills, California.
The grocery carts use a combination of cameras, barcode scanners and a scale to determine, everything you put into the cart.
Is this how we'll be shopping in the future?

I'm picky about fresh veggies and fruit, so I don't see myself ordering any of that online because I don't trust anyone to pick those for me.

I like how it shows you the total. So if I have $100, I dont have to put items back at the register if I go over and feel all embarrased.

Till you find out there is no customer service when you found out that chicken you bought is off, or you was charged the wrong price, reducing human interaction is NEVER a good idea.

This is an experiment, like you said. It's actually a warehouse that they allow normal consumers into and they've dressed it up to look like a store. Looks fun at first to me but maybe a bit gimmicky unless the tech gets better.

I personally buy dry goods online, and then stuff like meat and produce in person. There's no difference between two bags of King Arthur bread flour, so the Amazon robot can go ahead and grab that for me. But two tomatoes in the same pile can be very different, and two ribeye steaks can vary WILDLY in quality/freshness, so stuff like that I'm always gonna want to hand pick in person. Last time I went shopping, half the heads of lettuce in the pile were slightly brown. Took me a couple of minutes to find a really nice one. The Amazon worker (or eventually robot) isn't going to put in that same attention to detail. But if I need some cans of Goya black beans? Sure robot buddy, go grab that.
Now off topic, I just wanted to say I really enjoyed the two videos of yours that I've seen so far. Thanks for the great content!

People thought it will give people less jobs because of the tech but in this video there are more workers than actual shoppers, the workers are the one who are getting the groceries for them and just deliver them

This is cool technology but some of us are suckers for impulse items. My list is usually only about 6 items long and I come home with 20! Ordering online takes the fun and novelty out of buying random stuff from the international aisle or bread from the bakery because it smells so good.

Its not doing too well in the UK, pretty much a niche market luckily and I think people have had enough of chain stores, high street apocalypses and the fact that you don't work there and you should be able to use a normal checkout. The ones in London don't have ordinary checkouts, its only smart karts

So at my Amazon Store we canned the Dash Carts .. We are strickly pay as you go store. I like it way better.. I'm in and out fast the dash carts are small and take some time I like the entire idea but with the new just pay as you go with a regular cart is much better idea... We have a fresh soup and hot bar and a full pizza kitchen at my location.. Love it ! shop there all the time. I walk in and walk out super fast. WE also have cashiers for those who want one.. Also the prices at my store are good ...

This store is in breach of trading standards and disability primary legislation. It is clearly stated there are no tills, blind and visually impaired could not use this store. It is clearly illegal and discriminatory. This store must be closed and amazon fined 4 %
Of turnover. There are around 28 million who are not on the Internet, low wage earners not on the Internet and only use cash. The collapse of payment systems is certain how much would the economy have to pay for big tech companies to bulldozer uk and European law.... What a disaster heading for the high Court based on an American failed culture

But these stores will not be located everywhere. They are primarily targeting medium to high income customers. I read that the fully research their future locations. Most disabled customers or those with limitations but not all, are usually on a fixed income. There stores seem to be popping up in places like Boca Raton, FL. I think this is a way they are avoiding those laws.

I don't think you fall into their market they're targeting. They are only opening these stores in ares with medium to high income areas, that is here in the US of course. Majority of high income shoppers care more about their time than conversing with people.
