Glad I watched. I was about to change the oil on my wife's RX350 and I noticed the 3/8 driver hole. I didn't realize that didn't remove the entire housing. Filter wrench on order! On a side note, I'm a huge fan of Fumoto drain valves so I'll be swapping out my plug.
Because there is no oil in the filter housing on initial start after oil change. If you tried putting the full amount of oil, it might overfill. Once you run it for a minute, that filter fills up with about a quart of oil. Then your dip stick will be reading accurately and you can put the rest of the oil in.
@@kevinjones1111 What? Have changed oil on multiple cars with this engine numerous times and filled the 6.4Q each time. The filter has a bypass so no need to prefill the filter and dont ever underfill the engine (the filter housing is small anyway, holds maybe (and I mean maybe...) .2 quarts of oil...). 0 problems in years. Replace the filter, fill the oil. Move on. It isnt that complicated.
@@kevinjones1111 dumbest answer ive heard. This is a modern car, it should never be under filled, Even if you pre fill filter housing, I dont get your logic about under filling the car, the filter holds like a cup of oil, still missing 1.3 quarts of oil.
The drainbolt on the oil filter cap should only be 12.5 N•m. The oil filter cap or oil filter housing cap is what gets torqued to 25 N•m not the drainbolt.
Glad I watched this first as Lexus are a bit different from other vehicles. My 2 cents; yes, 25 N-m is stamped on the cap but it eventually reaches a mechanical stop by hand tightening. If you continue to reef on it with a wrench you are going to WAY over tighten and bugger up that stop. Therefore I do think that number is NOT for the screw in filter cap but is indeed meant for the cap drain bolt. No where does it have a number on the cap bolt but I put a torque wrench on it and it was good and tight WAY before I got to the 25 N-m number. IMHO, that cap bolt is just like the oil pan drain bolt, you tighten with a ratchet wrench until it is about "that" tight. Snug but not over "torqued ". Both the screw in cap and the cap bolt are secured with rubber O rings. Over tightening O rings is BAD and is not how they work. This is a car, not a commercial airliner or a rocket headed to Mars and a drain bolt is not an internal engine part like a valve spring nut. I gave up going to oil change places after some untrained minimum wage gorilla put on an oil filter and an oil pan drain bolt so tight they had to be cut off.
Great video. I need to know how many inches across the filter housing is so I can buy the tool with "wings" to be able to grasp it. Or if you can let us know where we can buy the expandable one you have. Thanks

Why do you run engine on 5 quarts of oil when the engine needs 6.4 quarts ?????
