I like how this ended. The rich guy wasn't exactly a bad guy and since he couldn't get the girl he wanted he went with the next best thing. He's not so bad after all.
It's an old vaudeville tradition actually - this type of opera/musical usually don't have villains, and in the end, everyone gets married, so that the audience is left with a good feeling after watching it.
I know why I love opera. because of cartoons and Disney laying the path way of great music where you taken somewhere else. Best cartoon and the music was great and I just loved the whole thing. Terry Toons was one of the best shows out there and I love Mighty Mouse even to this day!!!
The Wagmerian Hippo-ess, the mother of Carmen, strikes sexy poses (love the mussed hair) from @1:17-@1:31. The other scenes also show her bounteous figure. She is the best animated anthro female hippo I have ever seen. Terrytoons probably started the furry fandom without realizing it.
love how both women get their guy at the end. it was better for the mother to marry the old count instead of Carmen anyways. She is closer to his age and she seemed to like him more than carmen did.
This is everything a cartoon should be, it's execution is flawless, and makes you feel good while you watch it. And I loved the surprise ending. This one has many signature Terrytoon elements such as an operatic theme, cannonballs flying all over the place, and a hot furry. And of course it had Gandy (who we know has a very powerful voice from his Dream Girl cartoon, and Sourpuss (a bit disguised as Count Dodo). It's not really brilliant and would likely not be on anyone's list of greats, ie high cartooning, but it does the job of a cartoon perfectly. And Momma and Gandy's Pegasic horse were each in their own way superbly beautiful. And speaking of beautiful, the painting is beautiful too. It's not as obvious as in some Terrys but one of the studios strongest points was the ability to blend levels of reality. Here it is opera and reality (cartoon reality of course), though usually they did it the opposite way, making opera part of reality instead of reality part of the opera. I was so wrapped up in this cartoon I didn't figure out the Count's gifts were war rationing jokes until I saw it again.
THIS REPLY IS TO A DELETED COMMENT. SOMEONE ASKED ME WHAT I MEANT BY "HIGH CARTOONING" Some examples? Off the top of my head: Village Smithy (Avery). several Koko Out Of the Inkwell toons, Little Audrey in Goofy Goofy Gander, Terrytoons Book Shop, Disney Egyptian Melodies, Mickey Though the Looking Glass, Van Beuren's Tom And Jerry Magic Mummy, . Or from the 50 greatest cartoons; What's Opera Doc, Gertie, Skeleton Dance, Little Rural Riding Hood, Tell-Tale Heart, Northwest Hounded Police, Porky's You Ought to Be in Pictures, and Dover Boys. There are lots more like MGM's Tom's Mouse Trap, or Bimbo's Initiation (a few other Bimbos) or some of the Harman ising's like Bottles, Little Buck Cheezer, several of Fleischer's Superman, Heckle and Jeckle's Power of Thought., Quasi at the Quackedero, several of the new Mickeys like Mumbai Madness. Oh and both Eshbaugh"s Sunshine Makers and his Snowman.
Interspecies love seems to be fairly common in cartoon reality. Very likely the denizens don't see themselves as different species in the same way we would because their biology seems to allow them to be interfertile. A pure hippo momma has a pure cat for a daughter. Who even knows if the father was a cat. And who knows what will come of Momma and Count Dodo's union. It's perfectly possible, even likely in my view, that these unions simply produce another cartoon sentient of any type whatsoever. So I doubt they see themselves as different species, but as members of one great superspecies perhaps precisely based on their ability to see each other as mates.
There's also Howard the Duck and Beverly Switzler in Marvel comics (Beverly being a human woman and Howard an interdimensional duck person). Hell there's other interspecies romances like Roger/Jessica Rabbit, Eliza/Goliath (human woman and gargoyle man) on Gargoyles, Hampton and Plucky on Tiny Toon Adventures, InuYasha and Kagome, Ariel and Eric in Little Mermaid, Vastra/Jenny on Doctor Who, ( human woman married to an earth alien lizard lesbian woman), Star Trek, Star Wars, Farscape, Murray and Polly on Mighty Mouse: The All New Adventures (the 80s version with a human man married to a lovely sapient mouse woman), Regular Show even Margaret's parents one being a bird humanoid woman with a human man to Eilen/Rigby whom one is a mole person and one a raccoon person, Hepzibah/Corsair on X-Men TAS/Marvel comics (human man who is cyclop's dad and an alien furry skunk-cat woman), Minerva Mink and a human man in a story series, Tankgirl and her mutant half-man/half kangaroo lover Booga in Tankgirl comics, Kermit and Miss Piggy, Gonzo and Camilla, Vinnie and Charlene on Biker Mice from Mars ( human woman with alien humanoid sapient mouse man and both are sapient mammals and consenting adults), Cheetah/Batman on Justice League, Handi Smurf and that Mermaid on Smurfs, Tigra and her human husband in Marvel comics, Nick and Judy on Zootopia, Arwen and Aragon (human and elf) etc. all prove love isn't just the same species/race of Being you know. It's like Prince Lir in the Last Unicorn (ever read that 1968 adult fantasy book by Peter S Beagle and seen the 1982 Rankin Bass cult fave with Jeff Bridges and Christopher Lee and Mia Farrow and Angela Lansbury?) once said when he learned of the lovely Lady Amalthea (the title heroine only humanized) secret as told by the magician Schmendrick as he said to Schmendrick "Unicorn, mermaid, sorceress, gorgon, lamia, gargoyle, vampire, werewolf, elf...no name you could give her would surprise or frighten me i love whom i love" which is one of my fave quotes.
That is quite a catalog. I think Greek myth and legend was also full of interspecies love, or at least sex. For example Pasiphae had a passion for a bull which resulted in the birth of the Minotaur. No, I never saw The Last Unicorn.
Food, Water, and Shelter is what is important. Woman doesn't need make-up or technology. Sure, most woman like technology, and some like make-up, but it isn't a _need_ .
It's a joke about rationing during ww2 due to production shortages. You could only buy a certain amount of gas, butter, silk, nylon, footwear, meat etc. per month, you had to use special stamps for that.
One of the first interspecies romances! a goose person and a cat person, almost like Scrooge had romances with bird ladies and anthro ladies of different species you know and all..
This was awesome! Great songs with cool action. They just don't make cartoons like this anymore. Also, notice how Carmen looks like the female protagonist of "Cats Don't Dance" who also has the same name?
Marty Taras animated on this film. Peggy Breese another Terrytoons artist was likely involved on this film as was Tony Creazzo. Larry Silverman also animates a couple bits.
Why aren't these great cartoons on DVD? The Terry Toons cartoons rock! There should be a DVD collection of all the Terry Toons cartoons! I'd buy every single DVD release of the series! These cartoons are just too good to be gathering dust in a Hollywood studio's archives vault!
Porque tem coisas que hoje são consideradas muito perigosas, por exemplo, o desenho do Pica-pau, o desenho antigo não passa mais porque em determinados episódios ele está usando uma pistola ou esta fumando e tal
Me too i like lovely cat ladies especially Jenny on Bucky O'Hare, Callie Briggs on Swat Kats, Catwoman on Batman TAS (both human in cat costume and anthrofied cat lady in the Tyger Tyger episode), Felicia from Darkstalkers, Cleo on Heathcliff, Pam and Polly on Eek the Cat and Cheetara/Pumarya on Thundercats even Aishia Clan Clan on Outlaw Star.
I don't care what anybody says, I LOVE this classics "knights in shining armor and their damsels in distress" tales!!!! =D
Francisco Cortes
me to :)
*well get a horse and date a Pakistani girl. You'll get plenty of action. Chivery is not dead in merry old Eurabia.*
I like how this ended. The rich guy wasn't exactly a bad guy and since he couldn't get the girl he wanted he went with the next best thing. He's not so bad after all.
Makes me wonder if he wasn't after the mother in the first place and had only courted the daughter to get to her. Stranger things have happened.
Solidfact42 the gifts he brought do seem to be more to the mom's liking then Carmen
It's an old vaudeville tradition actually - this type of opera/musical usually don't have villains, and in the end, everyone gets married, so that the audience is left with a good feeling after watching it.
The Hippo is more attractive anyway-
ninedragons1 ehh the hippo was better anyway-

Anubis 17 ?#0#1238098765432
Anubis 17 Right She is so Wagner :).
lol
TRUE DO
She also understands what is most attractive: money!
I love the physics of this cartoon! So realistic!
love the hand movements.
Takes me back to the 70s and watching these after school. Mighty Mouse came on at 3pm on WLVI-TV channel 56 in Boston.
This cartoons are pure gold!
The Hippo Lady is a Walkiria Wagner style, she is so pretty.
MC Galan she thicker than a snicker
She is absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous. By far better than any other character I've seen.
@@reallyunimportant7689 And she knows how to fight, too!
love how both women get their guy at the end. it was better for the mother to marry the old count instead of Carmen anyways. She is closer to his age and she seemed to like him more than carmen did.

All the things a woman needs! Gasoline, socks and butter!
Cerci ^-^ what about make up, food, water, shelter and technology
What are those?

It was rationed during World War 2.
Along with the gasoline and nylon stockings
Mighty Mouse is my favorite series made by Paul Terry. This shown series is adventurous and bold.

Marty Taras animated on this film. Peggy Breese another Terrytoons artist was likely involved on this film as was Tony Creazzo. Larry Silverman also animates a couple bits.

This opera is mixed with Die Walkure & Lucia De Llamore
I may be born in 1995 and I love classics
Amo esses desenhos antigos. Deveriam passar p as crianças de hoje. Pq não passa?
It’s a mystery
Porque tem coisas que hoje são consideradas muito perigosas, por exemplo, o desenho do Pica-pau, o desenho antigo não passa mais porque em determinados episódios ele está usando uma pistola ou esta fumando e tal
I love you soooooo much greate grandpa u soul like me what a beautiful creation for beautiful hearts ha
I don't know how to talk to english

the cat is the cat is beautiful
1:32-1:58 would sound super catchy double high tone. I really like to hear someone do that part in Double high tone and upload it.
I love cat Carmen 🌹❤
I liked the Count's song and voice, hahaha.
He played many of the 'bad guys' in Terrytoons. Here, he is having fun being the good guy for once.
I love the hippo the cat and the King

1:30 most hie NO!!!
Is the white kitty voiced by the same actress that voiced Pearl Pureheart?
Why yes.
The ending was awesome! At least they all got what they wanted (though the knight may not be so lucky).
2 minutes in and I'm ready to marry Count Dodo!
Aww! What a sweet ending.
I Love cartoons that have a happy ending
All a girl needs is a half a pound of butter :3
Dear god this is old, yet I found some sort of amusement in it.
*The opera kinda reminds me of Die Walkure or Marriage of Figaro mixed together🩵❤️*
Wish they still made shorts like this..
I want a gif of 2:19
1:22 made me laugh X3 "NAAAAAOOOO!"
T-Zay i
1:30 My reaction: *_SWEET MOTHER OF JESUS!!!_*
I love how the horse is basically like "bro I did all that and you're not gonna kiss her? You gon' kiss da girl"
Carmen is a very lovely cat pretty too
the Hippo should end up wit the Bad guy any Way.
You can't force people to love someone.
The hippo is more prettier and *T H I C* than the cat.
I 100% agree, no sarcasm, she is beautiful.
