Visiting Eulalie - Philippe Antomarchi - Performed by Maryna Buksha

J'ai repris le thème de la "lettre à Eulalie", mais dans une autre tonalité (en "la mineur" au lieu de "la majeur") et un peu plus... triste, peut-être, parce que je trouvais que ça collait bien à mon état d'esprit quand je pensais à Eulalie, justement... comme je l'expliquais dans "Lettre à Eulalie" ( • Lettre à Eulalie - (or... ), Eulalie était mon ancêtre guadeloupéenne (my great - several time - Grandmother), à une époque où l'esclavagisme était la règle dans les colonies françaises des Antilles ; elle était "mûlatresse" libre (fille illégitime d'un colon et d'une de ses esclave africaine, mais cela lui a pourtant permis d'éviter d'être esclave également, parce que métis... Malgré tout elle a dû vivre une vie qui, j'imagine, a dû être difficile). Je pense souvent à elle, j'aurais tellement aimé en savoir davantage, à connaître sa vie... malheureusement en Guadeloupe, sur la petite île de Marie-Galante, il y a peu d'archives... Pour avoir souvent été en Afrique et avoir vécu là-bas, je suis très sensible à tout ce qui a pu arriver, il y a bien longtemps, à ces gens qui n'avaient rien demandé à personne ni fait de mal à qui que ce soit... après avoir écrit la "Lettre", l'été dernier, j'ai pensé à cette "visite", qui n'aura jamais lieue. Musicallement, j'y ai introduit quelques rythmes de "ragtime", c'est venu tout naturellement... Mais j'avais quand même cette mélodie en tête et dans mon coeur... Et il y a une part d'Eulalie en moi et dans mes enfants...
I took up the theme of the "letter to Eulalie", but in another tone (in "A minor" instead of "A major"), and a little more... sad, perhaps, because I found that it fit well with my state of mind when I thought of Eulalie, precisely... as I explained in "Letter to Eulalie" ( • Lettre à Eulalie - (or... ), Eulalie was my Guadeloupean ancestor (my Great - several time - Grandmother), at a time when slavery was the rule in the French colonies of the West Indies; she was a free "mulatress" (illegitimate daughter of a colonist and one of his African slaves, but this nevertheless allowed her to avoid being a slave as well, because she was mixed race... Despite everything, she had to experience a life which, I imagine, must have been difficult). I often think of her, I would have loved to know more, to know her life... unfortunately in Guadeloupe, on the small island of Marie-Galante, there are few archives... Having often been in Africa and having lived there, I am very sensitive to everything that could have happened, a long time ago, to these people who had not asked anything from anyone or done harm to anyone... After having written the "Letter", last summer, I thought of this "visit", which will never take place. Musically, I introduced some "ragtime" rhythms, it came quite naturally... But I still had this melody in my head and in my heart... And there is a part of Eulalie in me and my children...
