  • Dr. Shawn Allen of The Gait Guys speaks about proper stabilization of the medial foot and arch. Muscle specifically discussed are a team: FHB (flexor hallucis brevis), AbDuctor hallucis, and tibialis posterior. He discusses the functional anatomy, normal and pathologic movement patterns of the arch and first ray complex and big toe (hallux). His foot's ability to show the optimal patterns for the arch and hallux are excellent examples. Follow up videos and DVDs will show more details you need to know, and some of the exercises he and Dr. Ivo Waerlop use to restore a foot that has lost these abilities. The DVDs are in the works. Take their lectures and CME on www.onlineCE.com. Visit them at www.thegaitguys.com and on their facebook PAGE & Twitter of the same name for daily feeds of unique things.

    This has been so helpful. I have banana hallux on just one of my toes. But neither would do the short extension on their own. Rather than use the flex bands (I injured my toe that way), I discovered that if I do the exercise with Correct Toes on, then the bending of my other toes, causes part of the Correct Toes to instruct the big toe to bend. After I practice with Correct Toes on, I can then take them off and do the exercises. Hopefully, at some point, I can start off doing them without Correct Toes. At any rate, I wanted to share as to how helpful they are in term of my brain making the connect that I can perform the short extension.

    perfect explanation. thank you so much. I now understand exactly what is wrong with my foot now after a lapidus bunionectomy where my great toe is now shorter and hallucis breves muscles gone, hence developing odd gait and plantar fasciitis.

    This is a great video both from the scientific perspective and the quality of the presentation. It helps dispel many myths about toe spreading (too much/ too little), and the appropriate use of orthotics.

    TheGaitGuys very interesting. youre one of the very few orthotics detractors. i see how lifting the toes help raise the arch, but what can i do to strengthen the arch itself please? thanks

    • @jamienash5263
      @jamienash5263 8 лет назад +2

      +PurCitron there are a few exercises look up short foot posture, heel raises are good for helping with big toe alignment, i would recommend Correct toes as they not only align your toes into the correct position but are also wearable in day to day activities, research hallixus brevis exercises. one of the most important things to aim for is control of individual movements, another is balance, so if you can balance in bare feet on one leg this will use the muscles in your feet to avoid pronation and build intrinsic muscle strength
